Strata, of all the places, it had to be where he had just come from. He had tried leaving Strata by sea, but it was kinda, y'know ... frozen over. Which meant the only way to the city was through air or ground, and desert covered up the whole ground option. Having no money for flying, Unsane didn't have much of a choice in the end.
"Are you sure Strata's that way?"
He could always stick around and steal her wallet?

"Are you sure Strata's that way?"
He could always stick around and steal her wallet? "I'm sure." she said, flatly. It was a voice that brooked no argument. "I came from there, I'm pretty damn certain I can find my way back, okay?"

Unsane grumbled as he shoved his hands into his pockets, and followed behind the girl. If she was so damned convinced about where Strata was, he sure wouldn't be the one who was gonna tell her wrong.
"You've been walking all the way? Sheesh, even if it's not all hot anymore, that's pretty crazy."

Poppy cupcakes! " A'ight, never doubted, don't need to be all touchy 'bout it." Unsane grumbled as he shoved his hands into his pockets, and followed behind the girl. If she was so damned convinced about where Strata was, he sure wouldn't be the one who was gonna tell her wrong. " You've been walking all the way? Sheesh, even if it's not all hot anymore, that's pretty crazy." As if to show what she thought of his opinion, she kicked a snow drift. Viciously. With the toe of her boot. "Seems to be working pretty well so far. And if you ain't got any idea why it's all froze up like this, I'd advise you keep your pretty little jaw shut, okay?" Even if Saiya wasn't cognizant of it, the combination of low temperatures and sleep deprivation was starting to make her more than a little cranky. "And I don't think you got any room to talk. You're the one following me."

Cranky people only made Unsane want to get under their skin. It's almost as if they were asking for it. Saiya even went and gave him on a silver platter a way to be annoying. What was he to do?
He accepted the invitation with a grin, of course.
"It's probably just snowing because God hates you. I mean, it's a desert, right? Never been any colder than night here, then bam! You come a round, and a snowstorm explodes overninght. Coincidence?"
A pause.
"And I got all the room I want. Freakin desert's endless."

Cranky people only made Unsane want to get under their skin. It's almost as if they were asking for it. Saiya even went and gave him on a silver platter a way to be annoying. What was he to do?
He accepted the invitation with a grin, of course.
"It's probably just snowing because God hates you. I mean, it's a desert, right? Never been any colder than night here, then bam! You come a round, and a snowstorm explodes overninght. Coincidence?"
A pause.
"And I got all the room I want. Freakin desert's endless." "Then you can go your own way and get lost and probably end up buried to your throat in a snow drift, because if you change direction now, you'll miss the last bastion of civilization by at least a few miles. And I haven't 'just come around'." She shot him a nasty look over one shoulder. "I've lived in Strata all my life." She didn't answer the 'beauty sleep' question.

"All your life? Then why are you going to it instead of coming from it?" Unsane scratched his bare side, before putting his jacket back on, but without buttoning it. He missed his shirt. It looked good on him before he went and dyed it red.
"Here, how about I do you a favour? Free of charge, just 'cause I'm a nice guy like that."
Unsane snapped his finger. In the moment that followed, a loud crunching noise like snow being stepped into and backed tight could be heard from Saiya's feet, and hurrying forward at alarming speed. If Saiya kept walking, she'd have to raise her feet a bit higher, for the snow was now as thick and hard as an earthy floor, three feet wide and as long as the eye could see. Not only that, but any snow dunes in the way would be literally whisked aside by the elemental's magic, leaving a beautiful road to wherever they were going.
"Let's be friends?"

She ended up sitting half-up on the nicely polished road, hastily making some kind of sign at him, or maybe several. Her fingers were moving too fast to distinguish what, precisely. "You're a hocus?!" she demanded, voice shrill with a note of unfakeable shock and terror. "I mean--" Hastily, Saiya searched her vocabulary for the proper high-class term. "--you're a wizard?" It was interesting watching her face. Several emotions passed over it in the space of a few seconds, starting with surprise and ending with abject horror. "Oh, shi--I mean, saints!" She held up her hands in the classic don't-shoot-I'm-not-armed gesture. "I din't--I'm sorry! I din't know!"

"Eh? Hocus?" Oh, a wizard. Unsane just stared at her for a minute. He wasn't quite a wizard: he was an Underworld demon, which made him a magical being more than anything. Not only that, but Unsane's kind had the ability to feed from the energy strong emotions release. Currently, Saiya was quite a feast.
He opted for ambiguity.
"Something wrong about wizards? I'm not gonna send lightning bolts your way, don't worry."

She had heard that hocuses could tell when you lied to them, and anything short of 'power-hungry war-mongering psychos' would probably count as such. "Look--I'm sorry, m'lord, I din't know. I din't mean to--to offend you or nothin'." She was backing away steadily as she spoke, hands still held out. "So--I'll take you to Strata, and--and we'll part ways, okay?" " Parting ways? I don't think so." He didn't really get it, but she seemed to be scared of him. Unsane, being the completely selfless, noble and admirable person he was very well planned on taking advantage of it. He might not be a wizard, but he -was- a poer-hungry psycho. " Anyway, let's just keep going, right?" He grinned.

Hocuses were hard to kill. Just one could be as good as a fleet of bodyguards, and probably more effective. And Saiya was pretty certain she wouldn't have a lot of friends back in Strata. Couldn't hurt. Saiya shrugged, almost to herself, and turned. She started walking again. As long as he had a use for her, she probably wasn't in danger. Right?

She glanced back over her shoulder, warily. "Jesse. Jesse Hanvey." she said shortly. It wasn't her real name--obviously--but who gave out their real name nowadays? Especially to a hocus. There were all kinds of stories about what they could do to you if they knew it. Saiyamoru had a slew of them, but Jesse Hanvey was one of the few not associated with anything particularly illicit. Saiyamoru turned back and kept walking. After a couple of seconds, she muttered, "Artemisia West must be freezing her a** off. Saints."

"You better not be lying to me." He grinned to himself. Not like he had any way to tell if she was or not. Unsane followed, a few steps behind his guide, walking on the packed snow trail behind her.
"Who's Artemisia?" Not that he cared, but conversation makes a long walk all the more interesting.
