I'm a reformed percussionist... I've been playing for about... 3 years now... there are 11 horns at the highschool... 4 in the wind ensemble, 4 in the symphonic and three in the concert... it sucks because I didn't audition, so I'm in Concert Band... I'd probably be in symphonic if I'd actually auditioned... *hangs head*

Heh, I love my French Horn. I am first chair in my band! I love every second of it! I didn't know there were so many horn players! I do dislike melophone though... neutral

hi..i play f.horn also!!!^,^ mellophone too!! i like it but im struggling to get better because i switch inbetween trumpet and f.horn...oh yeah..im well..now 2nd chair out of two in my high school i also march which is wicked awsome!!*yeah go band nerds!!* mrgreen

I'm first chair out of two but it's not like I can ever get 2nd chair. She's only there for decoration. lol. YOu know what I love about the mellophone? The big bells. You know why? So you can run over the saxophone players and blame it on the bell. *HAHAHAHA *Evil laugh* choke cough cough.
But, I have a question for everyone. Am I the only one that uses a mellophone mouthpiece or does everyone use the extensions?

My first two years of band i played the trumpet. this year i switched to mellophone for marching and french horn for concert. the first time i played the mellophone and french horn i fell in love with it. i dont even kno y i was a trumpet to start with. I finally convinced my friend to switch to french horn this year and she fell in love with it like i did. MELLOPHONES/FRENCH HORNS ROCK MY LONG BLACK BAND SOCKS!!

Whoooo! Go French Horn! xD I'm the only French horn player in my whole school so nobody can really tell when I mess up except for the xD! Whenever they hear one of the high school French horns everyone is just like "Cara, why do you say you suck? Just listen to those guys! they sound so...weird!" xD It's great!
Does anyone else constantly hit their bell with stuff? I'm like constantly running into doors or stands or other people's instruments.

Or at least when I don't have a big French horn audition coming up. rolleyes
I love horn and mello. They are amazing. I'm first chair in my high school (out of eight or something like that) and I want to major on my horn. I think I'm a decent mellophone player...but it's hard to say. I haven't played it much in the past two years (not for lack of wanting - drum majors just don't get to play much).

I play the melophone in Marching Band. I am one of two players so we're jumped from the sax section to the trumpet section. But it's still a lot of fun I love doing it. I play concert horn in my school band and i'm getting my own for christmas. It's a single horn though because the doubles are expensive. I'm really excited.

Everytime we would go out to the football field for a game I would hit my melo bell off of the doorway. Not on purpose of course. The bell's just so big.

The people in this thread must be small. The horns really aren't that big, or maybe you all need practice carrying it out of its case.
Anyway, I'm first chair horn at my school also, out of 5. There are no seniors, 2 juniors (I'm one), 2 sophs, and one stupid-as-hell frosh. ._. I actually sound better on trumpet, but I hate trumpets with a passion! biggrin And marching season is fun as hell because nobody's serious about it. We don't compete, so my squad pretty much just goes around playing that little riff from the old Batman TV series (when they went to the batcave and to the popo's office and to get pizza, etc). This year our band (Southview HS Symphonic band) is playing at the OMEA State Conference. That should be exciting! biggrin We also host OMEA district 1 band competition, and we compete in AA (something I'm very proud of). We're losing our band director this year though. =[ So we're going to suck next year. Oh well!
I just like to talk about band, obviously. xD
