Making plain lolita skirts is actually incredibly easy and inexpensive [sometimes, no more than 6 dollars for fabric, trim and elastic if you have coupons for fabric stores]. You just need to gather a rectangle three times the measurement of your waist, add a waistband and embellishments and voila. You have a lolita skirt.

I have the fabric and every thing I need to make it the problem is I can't sew. I don't know how to sew very well at all but will soon be learning.

If you can sew a straight line, you can sew the skirt I described. All you have to do is keep the edge of your material lined up with the foot. (:

Omg Xiao Miko you are adorable!
Well I can sew a straight line but not a good one. I actually have experience of my clothes falling apart on me in public because I sewed them.

I wore this dress (one of my dream dresses actually!) to a Florida meet up last weekend. I really wish I had pirate loli to wear on the beach and do a piratey photoshoot. God, that'd be badass. I brought a sailor loli dress so maybe I will go to the lighthouse for photos? biggrin

I wanted to do a sailor/Victorian schoolgirl at the seashore loli for a trip to an amusement park with some friends. It worked up really nicely as a dress (the jumperskirt actually has a pocket), but I think my experience in historical costuming may be more of a hinderence than an asset to sewing lolita. The full-sized boater was a choice, I didn't want to burn up like I also do. It had ribbons coming off it. It's too bad you can't see the bow in my hair or the huge one on the back of my skirt in this picture, they pretty much make the outfit. Also, the bow in the front went limp immediately. I ought to have faced it.

I think it's actually really cute! The blouse looks a bit huge on you, though. haha
Also: if you don't want to use interfacing, or don't have any, you can put two layers of tulle down on the wrong side and sew them in place before you put the bow all the way together, it works about as well, actually. I've used that for waist ties and small bows before so they stay a bit more shapely. The only problem is that you have to iron on low settings so that it won't melt after you've put everything together [it works better for bows that don't need ironing later, such as hair accessories or the like].

spuntino I think it's actually really cute! There was a specific period of the Victorian era where sleeves of that shape were very popular, and I thought I'd try making them. I wanted long sleeves to protect my arms. The bodice fits well though, it would be hard to get the jumperskirt over it otherwise. I just feel dumb about not facing the bow because I have facing. I just keep forgetting to use it. sweatdrop

Thank you! And I ... am so glad to have finally gotten it. I can't even count the number of auctions that I either lost or went out of my price range before I found this one through the comm sales. J!YA and mbok are each a treacherous place, and I've been avoiding them lately in favor of TaoBao and EGL. XD;;
