The beach still had a certain appeal: unlike any sands he'd been on before, paler, the smell of salt on the air. So he wandered, despite the creeping tickle up the back of his neck, kicking at the ground to send sand flying up into the air, and lingered on the beach.
On his way back toward the dorms he paused, eyebrows pulling together, spying something glinting in the sand.

He dug around it carefully, this time, a pit on all sides -- but it wasn't enough. The item crumbled as he tried to pick it up.

Since Melvin was far too sore to go swimming again, he decided he'd just walk out to the beach again for any mermaid soap. He was getting a nice stock and always appreciated it. It had - a unique scent.
