Oh yer tha'pretty one 'alright. Levi's wheels were turning. The rickety old cogs tat worked together to generate thought in her head were analyzing West's words more carefully. Something in there was meaning to catch her attention and she couldn't quite make it out. Her automatic response was to retaliate as she did, but what had he said? They were going to trade- If she was the brains and he was the pretty one, then she was really the-

Oh. So ya'think I'm pretty. It actually came out on accident, evident by her cupping a quick gloved hand over her mouth and then sliding it off as if nothing was wrong here. She felt heated all through her face and her tail tingled where it hung over him, causing her to brush at his coat with the end as it flickered happily out of her control. At least, until she realized what it was doing and forcefully willed it to stop.

-p-pretty'nuff ta'drive ya into tha'gym floor next time! There. Totally fixed it.

The wheels had creaked so long to come to her conclusions that it took a while to realize West had also asked her something. Well I'm fine, fer'one. Blood's healin' over. She showed West the open part of her dress at her side where the p***k had now become a small dark spot. Don't reckon it'll come'part when dancin' 're nothin'. Maybe some dancing? She listened in for what was playing, subtitling hinting only at West to see what he thought about it.

It startled her a little, his sudden movements close to her, long legs breaking the short distance between himself and her, pushing her back against the hallway until the cool sensation of the wall rippled across her back. Her eyes, though, did not leave the stormy gaze that he held in his - a much different Miao Mengyao that she had known since they were knee-high to a grasshopper. Part of it was the lingering insanity - she knew this for it was what plagued her too, the bright gold eye they both shared reminding them every day that they were marked - infected.

But this was close. Very close. Really, really close.

It wasn't until his hand danced towards her hair, looking for the knot that held her mask up that her gaze broke for a moment - a knee jerk reaction. He wouldn't harm her, she knew, but the whole situation made her hyper-aware, and, after concluding that it was just his hand, she allowed him to undo the mask, the black mark falling and leaving her feeling a little exposed. her skin easily betrayed her - as translucent as the murky colouration that marred her legs, showing her emotions as easily as map.

Mis-matched eyes flashed back up to him, behind his mask, both physically and emotionally, she tried to figure out what was going behind the golds and feathers.

". . M-Mengyao?" she dared, unable to procure any magical retorts that she was so good at.

When both Astra and Tahki had declined her offer for help she'd sighed and nodded, rubbing at the back of her neck and closing her eyes as she turned away. Oof. She never should have used the gnomes as their assistants. They were more trouble than they were worth. Her eyes opened when she felt Seiji's cool hand against her cheek. She smiled, reaching up to gently rest her own hand over his with a little sigh. "Thank you, ne~." She closed one eye as she carefully nuzzled her cheek against his hand, reaching for the other one and standing on her tiptoes to meet his lips for the promised kiss until Seiji seemed to stop. Eh? Why was he..?

She felt a stare. An intense one. Junko blinked, turning just as Mac greeted her an Seiji greeted him. She paused, forcing back that instinctive look of do not want go away shoo shoo do not want to instead look past him first. At Lizzy who was staring directly at her. Her cheeks flushed behind her mask, clearing her throat and finally offering Mac a very polite smile.

"Ah, hello. Are you enjoying yourself tonight, Mac?" Go away go away go away she's having a nice time with her boilfriend go away pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease! "Is there something I can help you with..?" He was smiling. He was smiling at her.

...What had he done?

For a brief second he thought about getting pissed at things hitting him in the head. Here Roch was, in the middle of A, getting his heart broke again, and B, slow dancing with the ghoul doing it, and jackin' gnomes were throwing stuff at his head! But then the song ended, and he forgot about it easily enough as he pulled away.

"Hey, I've stolen enough time. Why don't you go back to your date?" he said to Amphi, for once in the night grateful for the mask that hid so much. "Have fun," he added, taking a step back, then disappearing entirely into the crowd.

Once he was out of sight he grabbed his trench coat and headed outside to cool off.

"I come from a fairly large family myself. Though we are not related by blood as one would say. There are a lot of Halloweeners who were adopted by the families. And some with no family at all." She chimed in to keep up with the conversation.

Mei glanced up at Eisheth with a smile before turning her attention back to the Death Priestess that she had briefly met before the Prom. "Yes, back when all the students went to visit your Islands. I had visited Death and Conquest Isles. I could have done with a bit more color to the decoration but I understand that is their culture." A small frown threatened to appear on her lips but she banished it before anyone could see it. "But most of my time was spent just exploring and spending time in a jewelry crafting class run by one of the Death clan named Ylaria. We spent a few days making a piece of jewelry then eventually were given the option to give it up in tribute. I was kind of sad to give up the brooch I had made but I felt it was the right thing to do in the end."

Her eyes snapped towards where all the commotion was coming from. More trouble? At least it wasn't a fire. But Mei had come to expect that something would happen no matter where or what was going on here at the school. "Because the gnomes are a lot more useful than they seem. They keep a lot of what you see here around you working like a well oiled clock. While sometimes they can be silly or annoying you have to give them some credit for the things they do. And they do it without much appreciation from others." Mei liked the gnomes personally. They were always so lively and each so individualistic with their personalities.

User ImageApart of him wondered what exactly he was doing. Lifen was his best friend, his most precious person, now that everything else had been taken away from him. There was an enormous, gaping hole in the chasm of his heart, one that could never be filled, no matter how hard he tried. Before the destruction of the isles, before the colossal falling of everything he had ever known, there had been no such hole. But now...

Lifen was all he had left. Lifen, Yuzhi, and Lan, despite their differences, and despite the fact that he and Lan bickered and squabbled with one another like two children wantin the same toy. Despite that, she was still important to him.

But somehow Lifen was different, and he could not quite figure out why that was. Perhaps because, after all this time, she still wished to stay by his side, regardless of his extravagant ways and his desire to have things a certain way. Whatever it was, he did not want to mess it up.

He could not afford to mess it up.

His hand lifted, the tips of his fingers drifting lightly down the side of Lifen's face, his glove hand drifting over her chin as he let his hand cradle her cheek. And for a moment, just a moment, something akin to pain flashed through his eyes as his thumb brushed over her lower lip.

But then there was a sudden gust of air as Mengya pulled away abruptly, turning so that his back was towards her, his fingers gripping the handle of his cane.

"I am sorry," he said, in quite a neutral tone of voice. "That was ungentlemanlike of me. Forgive me."

Amphi didn't realize there was gnomes hitting the reaper in the head as he was MUCH taller then herself. In fact, she had to look up really high to even notice if Roch was even bothered by anything. The song ended and Roch took a step back.

End of the dance. "ah Roch..." She wanted to thank him but before she could even could, He disappeared into the crowd. Shifting awkwardly, she frowned.

"Thank you Roch." She whispered, It was time to head back to Thana now after all. Ah...Maybe she could convince the reaper to do the chicken dance with her.

Heh, Thana flapping his arms like a poultry beast....It was almost enough to make her forget the nagging feeling in the back of her head as she searched for her date of the evening....

"Thana?" She tried to yell over the people. Augh so many people. QQQQQQQQQQQ.

Fai finished the dance with the scareling, giving her a slight smile and a bow of his head. "Thank you, darkling, for the wonderful--" he stopped, catching sight of the purple haired boil that had intrigued him--"dance. Please excuse me for a bit, I'll be back in a moment," he added, heading through the crowd and out the door to follow the boil.

"It's okay, I'm fine now, I just....couldn't talk." His voice was still incredibly hoarse, and this throat felt raw, but he was pretty sure that feeling would probably go away shortly. He wouldn't mind if this little incident would just go away as well, since he was really hoping to build up some good memories here, some happy ones that didn't end in him or Yin getting injured, dissipated, made temporarily insane, or weaponized. Yes, he was more then ready to just shove this one out of mind and pretend it didn't even happen, just like the one from earlier in the night.

"Really, you don't have to apologize." He gave Yin a reassuring smile before holding out his hand towards the weremantis. He would lead the way, but he wasn't going to pass up on an opportunity for hand holding. Also, he couldn't help but feel like this was something that Yin really didn't want to do, which for some reason made his chest tighten and nervous feelings began jumping around in his stomach. He didn't want to force his boilfriend to do something that would make him unhappy. They were supposed to be having fun! Maybe the problem was just that they were in a room full of people?

Slipping his hand in to Yin's whether or not the weremantis actually offered, he gave it a light squeeze and continued to smile down at him before speaking again. "You know we don't have to do this, I'm not going to be upset if you decide you don't want to." Well, he would be a little disappointed, but he was pretty sure he could hide that.

"But you know..." He wasn't quite sure if he should continue with this line of thought, but he pressed on anyways. "If it...helps....With the mask and the suit, and if you shifted to hide your more distinguishing features, I bet nobody would even recognize you." He grinned, a bit nervously, not sure at all what Yin might think of that idea, or if what he said was at all helpful in making the weremantis less..well, whatever his problem was.

All hopes that this was Nuk faded as she saw the initial somewhat hostile glare. Hurt made her want to take a step back, apologize profusely - clearly, this wasn't her Nukpana, this was someone else, her mistake! - but stubborn resilience kept her grounded. She had to know. Had she been thinking clearly, she might have recognized that reaction as an understandable one; this was troubled times, and she did approach him from behind after all.

The urge to flee was overcome by a sort of hesitance at the sound of her name, her chest constricting hopefully. It was definitely an improvement over the glare, but she wasn't sure if this was still her Nukpana, even with that; after all, he had been gone a long time. His appearance changed some, what else could have? Would it be possible for him to remember how close they were? Amrita had Nuk to thank for the way she was now; he was her inspiration. When she was 'younger', everytime she needed to put on a brave face she thought to herself What would Nuk do? and go from there. Nukpana had, likely unknowingly, set the groundwork for the woman she was today; she was still working on it, but the foundations were there. She didn't know what she would do if he had forgotten her.

All worries and hesitations fled the moment he cried out Itty Bitty. Eeeee this was him! The sound of that old nickname brought a joy that burst from her in a laugh as he scooped her up and spun her. Her arms had come up quickly to hold onto him as she was spun, the grip quickly turning into a near bear-hug once she was down on her feet again. "I missed you!" Amrita was eager to find out what had kept Nuk away from school, but Prom wasn't the place for it. Probably. His compliments made her flush darkly, wriggling a little in his grasp in pure shyness. She made all the breakthroughs one could expect, yet for some reason she never quite knew how to handle compliments.

"Ah...um. Th-thanks! You look very handsome yourself! Your hair is different!" As he took a look at her she had done the same, looking him up and down for any obvious signs of damage or hardship; she didn't have to look long to spot it, running down his face and neck. The rest of him was almost how she remembered him; the broad shoulders she had sat on many a time, the toothy smile that was both friendly and threatening...the way he never quite dressed up for events but still managed to pull it off. There were a lot of changes, too. He was bigger than she remembered, a little more rough somehow...but those scars were the biggest change she could see. Her face froze in a cringe, awkwardly twisting a backwards wrist to gingerly trace the scars that ran down his cheek.

"What happened? Are you okay?" Her happy expression fled at the sights of those scars; it looked like one nasty brawl, and concern had wormed it's way in to her voice and expression. It was so distracting in fact, that she completely forgot to apologize to the ghoul he was with for interrupting for so long. Whoops!

He had left the 'ladies' behind him, it was time he sought out a proper lady for the night. At his side Sharpie trotted along swinging his tail back and forth in time of the latest song with a happy little purr.

"If Amphi is with Thana do you think they took Biskoto along too?" The familiar seemed to have it in mind he would have his own little 'date' tonight.

"I don't know cat, it's not my place to say, but speaking of pretty mermaids...." His eyes lit up as he spotted Amphi standing among the the dance floor. Slipping between the students moving about he slid up beside Amphi offering a slight cough.

"You know, standing alone out here one might thing you came to the dance alone, had I known that I would have swept you up off your feet ages ago." His grin was easy and the thought of sprinkingly her in Jack-B-Green glitter but decided against that. Thanotos would be far more fun to torture with it.

The intensity of his stare coupled by the engulfing silence made her a little nervous - a small hope in her lighting up that nothing had gone awry, the sudden inclination of murmurs in the back of her mind attempting to nag her about the inconsistency of her best friend's mood.

As his hand started to trace her face again, she shivered a little from the movement, her arms rippling with goosebumps. Unaware as to what to do, she allowed him his moment, before the and abrupt end to his mood came with a flash in his eyes, puzzling the horsewoman as he wheeled away immediately, leaving her pinned to the wall from confusion and emotion.

The wall seemed to be building up again, and frowning a little, she leaned forward, taking a daring step and lifting her hands, placing them on his arm, trying to view his face again. Biting her lip a little, white teeth showing through teal lip stain, she gave him a little glance, mask still forgotten.

"I see nothing that has the need for you to beg forgiveness, Mengyao." She offered up to him, giving him a small look, before looking down at her hand on his shoulder. "I prefer if you were honest with me, hm?" She wasn't letting him get away with putting the mental mask up again, yet.

Amphi jumped at the cough and stared up at another of her Reaper friends. "False!" She squeaked and then beamed a smile up at him. "Ah False, I didn't realize you were here too!" She automatically went in for a hug, squeezing him tight and then dropping to Sharpie. "Hello Sharpie, you look fantastic-" ally cute oh my jack. Little bow tie and all!! She just wanted to....hug you to her bosom Sharpie.

"Well...Uhm..." She flushed looking around as she stood again, It was a shame she was so short among so many taller halloweeners, how False was able to find her, even she wouldn't know! "I was dancing with Roch, who is a friend but I think he needed to go somewhere...he left quite urgently. And I lost Thana because..." She waved her hand over the crowd.

"Ah...Sweep.....sweeping me off my feet?" She ducked her head shyly, "I do not see a broom for you to sweep...or is that a dance move that landwalkers do? Should I sweep you off your feet False?" A roundabout way of saying we should dance but....Amphi would not turn down a dance from her friend! Especially since he looked so dashing as he came over to her. "Ah....what is this small shiny flakes on you?" She pointed to the various colors of glitter. "It looks...fun!"

Titus was waiting for some soft parting words as Riyo put her hands on his shoulders. Maybe a goodbye as she trotted off to find the limp noodle of a cowboil but instead he found himself being shaken like a Polaroid picture as she yelled at him over the music.

Titus clearly didn't understand.

He was certain ghouls liked all that prissy stuff. The flowers, the flattery, the nice words, and sweet gestures. That just wasn't him and he wasn't about to venture to try but here Riyo was telling him that's not what she wanted. Instead she wanted honest truths so she could grow and improve.

Titus still didn't understand this ghoul. Why were woman so complicated?

As the shaking began to subside Titus stood where he was, poker face still in place as Riyo went about fixing the damage she had brought down on his outfit. The only thing he managed to do on his own was pull his mask away from his face so that he could sooth out his hair in the meantime.

"Fine," He said finally. The only word he had muttered in quite some time. "I'll play nice this evening but only for you." He placed the mask back on his face, eerie white orbs the only thing visible in the dark eye holes. "Don't expect me to extend the same courtesy to your friends."

The song was over now, Riyo had spent the last of it shaking the life out of him. "Do you want to get something to drink?"

((Roch & Fai chat, feel free to skip over!))

The sound of music was dampened when you went outside. It was more of a beat than the entire thing. It was dark, lit only by the lights on the path, and had it not been for Fai’s excellent night vision, he would have never seen the punk boil sitting in the shadows outside of the auditorium. The boil was still. He was so still that your eyes ran over him, not realizing that he was there a few times before catching on. That was, if you were actively looking for him.

Silently the Famine horseman lifted his robes, stepping barefoot over the path lights and heading to sit down next to the strange boil. For a long moment he didn’t say a word. He didn’t know this scareling, he had never spoken to him before, and this seemed to be the wrong time to approach him--

“If this is about the insane war horseman, I know already,” the boil said boredly. “You can try and kill me if you want, I still got no jackin’ clue why she freaked out on me. Other than the insanity thing.”

“War horseman?” Fai asked curiously.

“She was my date.”

“Not the two matching ghouls that seemed so interested in you at the tables?”

“Nah... they’re just... friends.”

“I see.”

“What do you want, then?” the punk demanded.

“I was wondering,” Fai said slowly, “if you might be interested in escorting me... I would be willing to compensate you, of course.” Not that he had much money at all, at the moment, but the boil didn’t need to know that.

“Where?” the boil demanded. “And why me?”

“Because you look as if you come from someplace I have never been,” Fai said. “And I wish to go there. I have lost much, and quickly, I feel the need to see more of what I’ve gained.”
--------

Roch turned, looking at the strange little horseman with his very strange hair. This guy wanted to go to Croost Street with him? Was he--well... jack, he WAS a horseman. That part was obvious. He didn’t know which type of horseman he was, though--but he didn’t think Conquest or War.. “I... hell, what’s your name?” he asked finally.

“I am Faiyum Riaz, Alchemist of the former Famine Clan,” the man introduced himself. “And you stole my drink earlier in the dance. That was quite offensive, you realize. Behavior only acceptable in the closest family members and scarelings too young to realize better. Food is precious to my people.”

“Oh... sorry,” Roch said guiltily. “I was choking.”

“Yes, of course, I did notice that. I forgive you.”

“Thanks.” He paused, thinking for a moment. “Roch,” he said abruptly. “Roch Scythe,” he added, offering his hand. “And... I’ll think about it. But you’re gonna haveta get some pants if you want to come with me.”

Fai blinked. “Pants?”

“Pants,” Roch said. “Otherwise you’ll never be able to sit on my bike.”

“I see. I will get some, then,” Fai said, standing. “I will see you again, Roch,” he added before heading inside. He had no clue that people thought he had romantic ideals at this dance. One was a child, the other was a priestess. And he... he was most infatuated with this “technology” of them all.
