Gale did not appreciate being surrounded by flames.

In fact, he rather decided it was quite possibly the most painful and unpleasant feeling he had ever had in his entire life.

He definitely knew he was dead; that much was clearly evident. And the sheer agony of the fire as it engulfed his body was enough to actually want to die, if there was even the slightest chance that he had survived this. Never before had he experienced anything like this.

And never again did he want to.

"Hey mate, time to get up."

What the hell? Why was there a familiar voice in his head? That was not what he had expected - and if anything, the last voice he would want to hear on his deathbed would be another guy's.

Which meant - he wasn't dead. Or maybe was hallucinating.

Slowly, very slowly, Gale cracked one eye open.

The first thing he saw was a face swimming above him, his vision hazy. The second thing he noticed was that he was absurdly...cold, especially for someone who had just been on fire. He gave a hacking cough and sat up abruptly, nearly whacking his head into whoever was sitting beside him. After a moment of getting his breathing under control, Gale turned sideways.

"...Davey?"

It was the one-armed Hunter, all right, and he was holding the last little bit of what appeared to be bandages - bandages that were now wrapped around Gale's arms and neck. He glanced down at them, raising an eyebrow, then looked back up at the older hunter with an expression of mingled surprise and embarrassment.

"...thanks, mate," he mumbled, feeling horribly awkward and in a great deal of debt. He would have to find some way to repay the older hunter. Gale's eyes flickered back and forth across the field, searching -

There.

"Come on," he said to Davey, and got unsteadily to his feet, swaying a little (he felt ridiculously unsteady on his feet) as he staggered towards the body lying a few feet away. Tika had certainly seen better days - her body looked just as bruised, battered, and burned as Gale's was.

"You saved my life," muttered Gale, getting out his own bandages and shaking them free. "Now it's time to save yours."

Christof had hurried to put a boulder into Calder's arms, despite Barth's grip and motioned towards the area he had already started building, but paused when Barth took a hold of him. He waited patiently, wobbling with the weight of the boulder until it seemed Barth had finished... whatever he was doing with the muck.

It wasn't as impressive as the thorns, though.

When he heard Junko's uncharacteristically sour voice, his brows furrowed, he knew she couldn't understand, but hopefully someone who did was still close enough to translate, "Need-protection. Need-to-work-together. Not-leader, but-practical-person." That done, he limped closer to G, patting his massive scaly arm before pointing urgently to the good spot. If they could hold off the hunters from at least what remained of their wounded, those who were doing better could fend them off while hopefully Sammy could reason with Red. Hopefully.

At least that was the plan in theory.

It SEEMED sound to him. At least until something better cropped up, and so far *nothing* sounded hopeful. But at least a unified task would keep people from panicking.

Calder watched as Barth exhausted himself to make more blobs and he worried when he saw the creatures build up and then slowly melt into unsteady figures on the verge of turning into puddles. Worried, he could only offer a sympathizing smile in return. "Yeah. I guess we picked a lousy time to talk about all this - but I'd rather know it now than later. You should really stop exhausting yourself. Save your energy for when we can run off to the nearest escape when it shows up." He tried his best to make light of the situation but it was very hard to when he felt this tired.

Christof, not even noticing the situation, handed Calder a rock and pointed to where they were building. The kelpie nearly fell over when he held the rock and heaved it up. Well, at least it hid his package, but it was SUPER heavy. "I'll....try and help." Calder said, and turned back to Barth. "We're not going to have time to talk much if we don't stop Red from burning us to a crisp. Your thorns are just going to tucker you out even more." Not to mention that Calder didn't want the demon to hurt himself to protect him. "Come over and go behind the wall Christof is making." To which Calder leaned in to whisper. "He's been worried so much about you all this time. I think even now, he'd need your support as much as I do." And, seeing as he was already this close to whisper anyways, Calder gave the boil a nuzzle against his cheek and kissed his cheek.

Giddy, Calder turned about and headed to the wall, his bare a** giving a little sashay as his tail flicked behind, clearly happy about his little stolen kiss.

Bix shook his head. He was forcing himself into more action than sitting and questioning.

"We have to find Boss and Tika.." He was grateful to be alive but the giant fire breathing monster hadn't gone away. Bix forced himself to his feet and then pulled Before up with him.

"Thanks bro.. " he squeezed Before's shoulder and then began to scan the ground for fallen comrades. The were easy enough to spot since they'd all been crowded together. He spotted Gale by Tika and Boss laying off to the side.

"Ariane!" Bix wobbled to her side but seemed to be gaining his strength back quickly. He fumbled in his pack as he crouched and began to bandage her. He couldn't tell if she was breathing.

[[ Bix used his last bandage and healed Ariane! ]]

Aksaja winced at Junko's words, finding himself pretty much agreeing . . . but from what he could see of Christof's plan, it seemed pretty solid. Touching down next to Junko, he eyed her. "Well, I think building something to try and protect whoever is hurt is probably a good idea. Who's arguing about that?"

Flame lits the battlefield, burning the noise reaper. His hand was rendered useless and the open expanse of his arm was also burnt from flames that licked his arm .. Now the entire thing was useless.

His eyes had shut from the pain, grunting. He hadn't fully registered that many of the students around them died. Or perhaps, his brain wouldn't let him. Vaith couldn't look as the scene of destruction around them-- He didn't know where Ren was. Was that a good or a bad thing? Xiu's words only stirred up the anxiety that spread through the survivors, burying his expression in his shoulder, what sounded suspiciously like a sob .. or holding back one.

He was led forward by Xiu, the only ghoul at the moment that kept his sanity intact. His mind was held together by a single strand, the rest threatening to break as things kept happening. He followed a little pathetically alongside Xiu, weakly allowing the baku demon to lead him forward.

"It looks like everything's going to s**t."

Colette staggered as she recovered from the rock's implosion. The Reaper didn't know where to go or what to do as she watched the chaos ensue. Students were dissipating, voices were forcing their way into her head; and while she was miraculously alright, the constant loss and gain of FEAR was unpleasant. She didn't even want to bother herself with trying to fight someone anymore. There were too many people, too many things going on at once -- shouting and planning. How could one not get disorientated?

C-Colette?

The Reaper heard her name over everything else. Selective hearing, some would call it. The voice interrupted her search for anywhere to stop for a moment and collect her thoughts. Of course, Colette was relieved to finally have some sort of clear task, and the voice was much more welcome than the ones forced into her mind by MonsterthingRed. She knew this one. Trying to spot its source, she scanned the area before finally spotting Danny. There!

She arrived to Danny's location within seconds, emerging behind the ghoul from another one of her portals. "Danny! What happened?!" Her tone was that of some mother chastising her scareling. Colette could have swore she had given her a pill before leaving.

Leaving...

Maybe she shouldn't have had done that. "Just.. stick close to me," she instructed, as if she actually had a plan. Colette looked around for somewhere safe. "Jack damn it.. I'm just -- Ugh. Where do we go?!" No where was ever really safe.

The kiss and touch were warm, but brief. Barth let him go.

West and Simone were here. He agreed with Simone's point. That was the point of the barricade. And right now, he belonged behind it.

Sammy had shouted...well, her own message. Leave them alone. She apparently thought kill the humans was too much to ask for. It wasn't very much like reasoning and more like telling, but he supposed they'd all find out very soon what the results of that were. People were already starting to carry rocks over to start building a barrier. Left alone, he didn't think they could defeat the humans. Not with so many already dead and wounded. The Hunters that had fallen were getting up. Except for Caelius, they all looked fresh, ready for another thousand assaults.

To Junko he said, "Christof says some of the students need protection. We have to work together. He's not a leader. He's a practical person."

He looked at Christof.

"And he is a practical person. ...I'm, I'm going to lie down I think."

Mitsu wasn't sure what the plan was but whatever was going on it was certain Junko was angry about it. Or the lack of a decisive decision. It was strange to see since the ghoul was usually so bubbly and happy though in this situation it was hard for Mitsu to imagine anyone being bubbly and happy.

Carefully she approached the ghoul bumping her head into Junko's arm lightly. They would get through this and she hoped that thought conveyed. For now she waited to see if the group would comply to Chris' plan, whatever that happened to be. Was it rock collecting? She listened to Amrita translate what was going on. Or try to. The lycan really didn't understand sign language.

Oh...oh he was building something. A wall or a fort.....would that really work in this situation? They were sitting ducks while they tried to put this thing together. Still though Mitsu wanted to help and immediately moved toward a boulder and started to push it with her head. Her natural form was strong so she was able to move the large rock fairly easily but lifting it would be another matter. Hopefully if she got it in place someone else could take care of that.

Davey's shoulders relaxed as Gale finally opened his eyes. Moving and speaking followed, so Davey could banish horrible thoughts like 'paralysis' and 'brain damage' off his list of worries.

"Yep, just me," he said, when Gale spoke Davey's name. "I'm sure the others are around here somewhere."

Though where, in the smouldering ruins, was the question. Thankfully, Gale was a sharpshooter for a reason and spotted a likely figure not too far away. Gale stumbled over to the fallen girl, Davey trailing behind to make sure Gale didn't collapse. Everyone's pride remained intact, and Gale was soon bandaging the female Hunter.

"She'll be fine," Davey reassured Gale. He refrained from mentioning just how dead Gale himself had looked before Davey arrived, and yet here Gale was, no worse for wear. Instead of mentioning the weirdness of that, Davey opted for, "I think the mad doctor has some strange concoction of drugs in those things. They heal more than they really should... not that I'm complaining."

Sitting by Gale's side, he waited for Tika to wake. Then it was regrouping time, to take the giant winged monster out once and for all.

Cady stared.

Was Bul - was he singing? Yelling? About...why...he. She shook her head, and padded off to join the students who seemed to be playing around with rocks. Somehow, it seemed less crazy than Bul at the moment. She wondered if burns could cause brain damage. Hopefully Dante would be able to keep an eye on their crazed leader.

Christof was talking - well, waving his hands around and grunting, anyway. She squinted. How would interpretive dance help anything? There were also some students nearby piling up rocks, however, and given her most recent experience she decided Moar Rocks could never be a bad thing.

After watching a large wolf walk by easily manipulating a small boulder, Cady tried rolling one over with her face. It hurt. Where are you, opposable thumbs? sad

The darkness seemed to be getting deeper and deeper the longer Tikaanis stayed. Her body felt so weightless, so useless. She felt useless and alone and disgraced. Slowly her eyes closed as she was just about to give up and float in her own personal dark hell for all eternity.

But no. The darkness fading. Even with her eyes tightly shut, Tika could tell it was fading away. It was fading and it was turning to light.

Before the teen knew what was even going on she could feel her body again. First a finger twitched then a full hand lifted some. Finally Tika opened her eyes to find Gale and Davey. She blinked up at them both and focused on the two of them.

"Fire." Came out of her mouth with out any warning. It was said before Tikaanis even realized she had said anything. Possible delayed reaction from the events earlier. She felt quite a bit better now but still there was a tingle of cold that seemed to have followed her from that dark place before.

"Uhh.. I'm sorry, Thank you Gale and Davey. Um. Where are Before, Bix and Ariane? Are they okay? That fire it..." Her hand met her forehead for a brief moment. She had to take a moment to blink a few times the light was to bright after being in such darkness and dread.

"S-sorry. That was.. Did the others survive?" Everything felt so surreal like waking up from a bad nightmare only to join the real world as if nothing had happened. Only waking up from this nightmare was like waking up in to a slightly milder nightmare. Her team mates had her worried and judging from the looks of Gale, it was a possibility they were in tough shape too.

Junko couldn't help but just stare at Christof, her brow furrowed as she watched his hands. She..didn't understand. What was he...? She half-mimicked his actions as if trying to figure them out, and she seriously was trying to figure out what he was trying to say. Put...thing...hammer? What..?

OH! WAIT! "Building a..thing? That..good. Good. Then let's do that. Just...let Red be. She's just going to attack us again if we keep trying to intervene." She looked Aksaja's way when he landed beside her and asked about arguing. A glance was then cast toward Sammy.

"Sammy...leave her alone. Yelling at her, agitating her, it's just going to get us killed. She told us to leave. To survive." She didn't want to abandon Red but.. "Let her do what she wants." Junko frowned, rubbing at her temples some more.

"I..I'm sorry for snapping. I just...I want to go home...are you okay, Barth?" Junko asked as the demon said he needed to lie down, keeping a close eye on him until she felt something bump against her arm. She jumped and whirled around at first, her hair raising defensively until she realized it was just...a really, really big wolf. She frowned, reaching over to tangle her fingers in the wolf's thick white fur. So soft...just like Nuk. Whimpering, Junko threw her arms around as much of Mitsu's neck as she could and buried her face against the wolf's warm fur, her shoulders shaking with silent sobs. She wanted to go home. She wanted this to all be a nightmare. A nightmare where Seiji disappeared and Red died and her hair was burnt and her clothes were ruined and there were humans attacking them and students were dropping like flies. It was all just...a nightmare. She wanted to wake up safe in Seiji's arms, she wanted this all to stop.

She let go of Mitsu so she could get to work helping make their new little fort, rubbing at her face and allowing her hair to curtain around her in a way that hid her tear-stained face. There was a thunk! that got her attention soon after and she turned to watch Cady headbutt a boulder. She giggled. She giggled some more, and she laughed..a little too hard. Junko's arms curled around her middle as she doubled over, laughing at the sight of Cady rolling a rock with her face. It...it wasn't even that funny! Why couldn't she stop laughing?! It was almost enough to make her forget about the giant beast ready to kill all of them! Or the hunters gathered not far off!

"Patchy!" Gargantuan cried, but it was a little hard to hug the monstrous boil with his arms full. He waddled as quickly as he could over to the designated area, and it didn't take him long to spot the Hunters trying to recover and pull themselves together. Oh. Oh. Bad things! G remembered them, and he didn't like them one bit!

With a low, menacing growl directed at the lot (they probably couldn't even hear him), Gargantuan quickly scurried back, attacked Christof with a bone-crushing hug, and went back to work with dragging big pieces of rubble over to build a sloppy, but effective barricade. His supreme strength and size was surely helpful in this task, at least!

G gonna keep everyone safe." He grumbled to himself, glancing with concern at Junko before continuing to work. He had to keep them all safe. Somehow. Maybe.
