Mathias, now on the move once again towards the defensive barriers set up prior to his leaving, began to shout orders to turn their mounted turrets around and open up with them on the remaining ghosts. They only had one rocket team that was topside, and it was already engaging the ghosts.
"Let's go! Get these turrets turned around!" Marines moved quickly, reorganizing and turning things around. He wasn't worried about anything coming up from behind them from the entrance, because they would be notified if something got past the team below. Or at least he hoped so. Plasma fire was going everywhere admidst the fiery, smoldering wreckage of Ghosts, and burning tents and a few bodies as well...

Mathias took cover behind a blast barrier that had been set up for Halos entrance defence. He replied back to Captain Resnick when he was out of the line of fire.
'Sir, we've come under attack by a small group of Ghosts. Almost all of them have been dispatched though.'
Poking his head up over the top of the barrier, he saw Kristi going after another Ghost. The Marines covered her as she did, keeping any Ghost that got too bold back at a distance. There were only five Ghosts left, soon to be four when Kristi got her hands on an Elite that thought he could run her down.

Well heads up. The Pelican that brought you down was just attacked by Covie dropships. They'll be on your position in 5 minutes. We also have more traces of movement about 3 clicks east of your poisition. Looks like they know you found the place. Hold that door at all costs Captain. Armengald out.

Dammit all... Mathias thought to himself, not responding over the radio. He had work to do. First he needed to get everyone regrouped back at the entrance. He did this by sending out a radio message to all the soldiers in the area.
'Marines, fall back to the entrance double time, Covenant drop ships in bounds on our location. They'll be on us in less then five minutes. Repeat, fall back to the entrance ASAP!'
In compliance, Marines began to fall back to the entrance as ordered. As they fell back, the fire on the Ghosts let up. Three Ghosts, had enough luckily, and high-tailed it out of the area, to report the resistance they encountered. "Grab all the gear you can and move inside the entrance. I want a machine gun right there!..." He shouted, a Marine gunner team watching him, as he pointed to the left side of the entrance about twenty twenty-five feet from the entrance itself.
"Yes sir!" The two-man crew replied, moving to where they were told. He ordered another group to do the same on the opposite side. Mathias knew the Covenant strike teams would be exposed right upon landing, when they left the protection of their dropships, so he would use this as best he could. He had all but four of his snipers stationed in whatever area they thought would be best to pick off advancing Covenant.

Drake heard some movement on the far side of the camp. He looked, and there was a large group of covenant ground forces making their way through. They were focused on the ground, so Drake dove back into the cover of the woods. After the forces passed, Drake heard a call go over his com. "Marines......entrance.....ships....our location.......five minutes.....fall....ASAP1"
Drake recognized the voice as Mathias and tried his radio once more
"Mathias, this is Drake, I need assistance. I am in the old Covenant base. It has been taken by the flood. I don't know how I survived, but I did. I repeat, I need assistance immediately."
Drake kneeled next to a tree and waited for a reply to his message.

The snipers moved to their positions quickly and were ready by the time the Covenant dropships were just touching down, just beyong reach of the machine guns. At the entrance, all the defenses had been set back up, though much stronger then they had originally had been set. There was also four machine gun nests set up to catch the Covenant in a massive crossfire. After all was set up, Mathias proceded to radio SPARTAN-108 of what was going on.
'SPARTAN-108, This is Captain Twombley. Be advised, Covenant dropships have unloaded and strike team and they are advancing on the entrance hastefully. We might become overrun, in which we will fall back into Halo. Twombley out.'
Mathias also sent roughly message to Lt. Brennan, whom he hadn't heard from in awhile.

Just then, Mathias received the transmission from Drake, much clearer this time. He responded accordingly.
'Drake, good to hear your still alive, but were are unable to send you assistance at this time... Gun shots could be heard in the background of the radio transmission.
'The Covenant are converging on our position, try to reach Lt. Brennan. He might be able to help you out. Twombley out.

"Damn!" Drake swore as the link closed. He decided to take things into his own hands. He went out into the mass of dead bodies and found 2 plasma grenades, a needler, and a plasma pistol. He dropped his pistol on the ground and put the grenades in a pouch on his armor. He then picked up the needler and the plasma pistol and set off in the direction of the Covenant group. Within a few minutes he caught up to them. He then took cover behind a large rock. He knew he couldn't take all of the covenant by himself, but if they were converging on the UNSC base, he might be able to follow them. Drake ran and dove behind a tree and he peered around the side. They hadn't spotted him yet but they might.

The Marine Snipers were dropping Covenant left and right. Early on Mathias had placed emphasis on taking out squad leaders, the Elites, which would make the squads leaderless and send them into disarray, making things difficult for the attacking Covenant. Mathias got Lt. Brennan's response ((Im assuming its Brennan sweatdrop ))
'Lieutenant, Covenant are advancing on the entrance, were doing what we can, is there anything you can do with that captured ship of yours?
Mathias' voice contained some bit of urgency, because he wasn't sure if they were going to be overrun or not, but also a refined and smooth tone, indicating he knew what he was doing, and wasn't nervous.

Drake was still hiding behind the tree when he took Mathias's advice and opened a link to Brennan.
"Sir, This is Warrant Officer Shadebringer. I've been seperated from the rest of the forces. I need someone to pick me up, or I need somewhere to go. The Covenant took me prisoner, but they were all taken out by the flood and themselves in flood form. I have no idea how I survived but I'm one lucky SOB. I am currently behind a clump of Covenant, but I don't know where they are. Is there any way you can help sir?"
Drake got to a crouch and walked further into the small forest, leaving more room between himself and the covenant.

Some of the Covenant squads were thrown into disarray as their attack began. The Elites that remained shouted in their own toungues to get the grunts and jackals back into formation. They had to halt their attack in order to reorganize, which cost them more dead soldiers in their ranks, but it worked to get things back to where they should be.
Captain Twombley observed all this from a pair of binoculars he had picked up. Looking over to his left, from his crouched position, he eyed their Scorpion MBT. He didn't want to deploy it right this insantance, though it would inflict some serious damage on the advancing Covenant. It wouldn't be a smart move because several grunts were equipped with fuel rod guns, which would make short work of the Scorpion if all their fire was directed at the tank itself.
The snipers were doing their jobs, though they didn't have an infinite amount of ammo. One of the snipers, that had rank over the rest of the snipers radioed Mathias;
'Sir, the Covenant are spliting into two groups with loose formations. Looks like they're going to try a pincer move.'
'Roger that, I want you and your snipers to take out all of the Covenant carrying fuel rod guns, they are priority targets along with squad leaders. Take them down.'
Once the Covenant strike team had their heavy weapons taken away, Mathias could order a counter attack. Right now, he had an idea suited especially for Kristi. He opened a link to her, trying to speak over the Machine guns that were opening up now, green and blue plasma balls hurtling back in response.
'Kristi, this might sound crazy, but I want to use that Ghost to harass and plow through the Covenant group that broke off to the right.'

The SPARTAN leaned against a wall as he eyed his troops, not really thinking about his team as he did so. He was currently thinking about the units stationed above-ground, worried they'd lose their only defended escape route at this rate as he listened to any radio chatter that could reach them. It wouldn't be a total disaster if they did lose that entrance, since they could just find another way out. They'd just have to fight their way through Flood-infested territory to get there, which would be much more difficult than using the back door. He plotted out an escape route based on the mapping work created by recon teams, just in case the Covenant went in after them and they had to leave for higher ground immediately, and went about ordering his men to be ready to leave in at least two minutes if and/or when the times comes.
