"Ah." Mikuru nodded as though she understood, but she didn't. Not really. She sat down in an armchair, wrapping her arms around her waist nervously. She wanted to talk to someone, worry and fright was killing her. But then again, she didn't want to. "Rei..." She finally said, in a soft voice. She looked up to meet Rei's eyes. "Are you my friend? Can I trust you?"

"I... I have something I need to admit." Mikuru closed her eyes before she could start crying. "Earlier today... this morning... I made a mistake. I was cooking in the kitchen, and Bakura came in, and... I don't know how it even happened. We ended up in my room, and..." She was stuttering, and just cut to the chase. Her heart was pounding with fear, but she was determined to go on. "We had sex."

“I just don’t get it.” Atem muttered to himself as he looked out the window. Yugi was sitting at his desk, studying his homework, and glanced up at his transparent yami. The pharaoh had separated from his host temporarily, going into his spirit form. Atem looked down at his hikari, and sighed. “About Bakura. A person can’t just go missing. But I felt no disturbance in the Shadow Realm. None at all. It can’t have been his yami. But if it wasn’t… I just don’t get it.”
“Nobody does.” Yugi muttered, turning his attention back to his work. A month or so ago, in the middle of class, his friend Ryou Bakura had just collapsed and vanished. Nobody knew what had happened. Truth be told, nobody had been paying any attention to him at the time. He may have been gone for longer than he actually was, he may have slipped outside of the classroom and left for all anybody knew. But there was no proof on the tapes in the high school hallway showing that Ryou had left at all. It only added to the mystery. Ryou’s apartment had been left completely alone, no clothes were missing, nothing. His father had flown to Domino immediately, searching for his son, but nothing came up. He eventually had had to return to Panama, where he was working. The police had stopped searching and asking, but that didn’t stop Atem from thinking about it often.
“I can usually sense other Millennium Items. Especially if they’re close.” Atem stated firmly, getting off the windowsill and going to peer over Yugi’s shoulder. None of the math symbols made any sense to him. “Not as well as Bakura’s yami must have been able to, but I was vaguely aware of their presence. That day… the Millennium Ring just vanished from existence. It’s entirely gone. I’ve gone to the Shadow Realm to search for the yami, but he’s gone too. I just don’t see how anything like that is remotely possible.”
“Don’t worry too much about it.” Yugi said firmly, closing his math book and looking up at his yami. “Whatever happened… happened already. Nobody knows what might have happened. I’ve even called Malik for you, for god’s sake. He doesn’t know anything. Ishizu doesn’t know anything. NOBODY knows anything!” He was, honestly, a little fed up with his yami’s constant worrying. “We can’t do anything. I know this kills you, but it’s the truth. What do you expect to do against something that’s clearly happened way past our boundaries? If you try to mess with it too far, you might do something bad. All we can do is hope Bakura can get back sooner or later.”
“I feel like we need to do more than just hope.” Atem muttered bitterly. “If we ever want to anything about my memories, anything about unlocking the past… We need all seven items. This includes the Millennium Ring. And the Millennium Eye, which I suspect Yami Bakura has.” He frowned at this—he truly despised the thief at times. This was one of those times. “We… I hate to say it… we need him back. We need both of them back. Them and their items. I might let it drop—grudgingly, of course—if it were just a matter of a missing person. But this goes so much farther than just that.”
“I’m going to bed.” Yugi said in an annoyed voice. “Continue your ramblings if you want. I’m tired. Go back to the puzzle if you want to continue to mutter to yourself.” He had already changed into his pajamas, and it was only a matter of brushing his teeth and then slipping into his bed. Atem didn’t say anything more, but he didn’t go back to his Millennium Item, either. He returned to his spot by the windowsill and gazed up at the stars.

Mikuru had wiped away any traces of tears when Rei made a call. "Who? For what?" She asked, sounding very nervous. She didn't like being kept in the dark, and was starting to regret telling Rei. She still got to her feet obediantly, allowing Rei to lead her.

Rei let out a small growl "My sex life is none of your busness thank you." She took out a large wad of cash from her back pocket "This is for the pill" She said handing him a hundred dollar bill. Of corse it dident cost that much but she paid it anyways "And this" she said pulling out two more hundreds "Is to keep your yap shut. If anybody and I mean ANYBODY finds out about this your dead meat." He took the money "Yes ma'am! Oh and I brought the daily stuff for ya know...next time!" he smirked and rei game him a slap on the arm "hahaha ok get lost now." he laughed and started walkin away "call me babe!!" he yelled out "Bite me!!!" rei yelled back and sighed. It was an idiot but he was ok. Taking the water bottle from the bag she poped the red pill from it's package and handed it to her "here."

Mikuru had remained humbly silent during this little exchange. She looked at the little pill in surprise. "I should go get a drink..." She said softly, getting up to her feet. She had started for the front door when it opened. Bakura was there, looking quite a bit more solemn than he had been when he was happily devouring his steak. He offered a bottle of water to the girl, and she meekly accepted it.
Bakura's eyes were narrowed. He had been listening in on the girls' conversation since they had left the question, he wasn't about to deny that. He had thought that he had told the girl not to mention it to the others... but then again, what could he expect from just a mortal like her? Feelings and crap got in the way. He didn't know how he should react to her now. Up until this point, he had just ignored her. "Hmph." He grumbled to himself, watching as she quickly downed the pill, with very little hesitation.

Yugi tossed and turned. His yami and he were still connected through a mind link, and Atem seemed determined not to get any rest that night. Yugi couldn’t sleep with thoughts and feelings of deep concern radiating from his darker half. He finally just sat up and snapped on a lamp. “Can’t you get any rest?” He snapped irritably at Atem. “I’ve got a test tomorrow and you’re making sleep miserable for me. You can worry about Bakura and the Millennium Items at any other time. You can worry about it while I take my test, for all I care! Right now I need to sleep!”
Atem gave his hikari a shocked look. Yugi had rarely lost his temper, not like this. He supposed that the boy was just being stressed over school and his social life. He let out a small sigh, and shrugged. “If it meant that much to you… You know I wouldn’t want to do anything bad.” He said, and Yugi looked guilty for a brief moment. But that moment quickly faded, and he just looked peeved. Atem went to where the Millennium Puzzle was hanging on Yugi’s bedpost, and rested his hand against the cool metal. The Puzzle glew in response to his touch, and he faded from view, returning to his soul room. From his viewing point, he knew Yugi had laid down again and attempted to go to sleep. Atem was silent in both thought and words, as much as he could be, until his lighter self had drifted off to sleep.
Setting up barriers, so Yugi couldn’t hear or be bothered by him, Atem continued his thinking, and muttered to himself. “I just can’t understand. Nobody can just teleport. No dark magic had been used.” He paced back and forth across his labyrinth-like soul room, but didn’t go into any doors. “I might understand it if the tomb robber just vanished, but… His host body? Makes no sense…” Atem let out a frustrated sound and slammed his open hand against a wall, doing nobody any good. He heard a soft chuckle and quickly whipped around to see who—or what—it was.
“My, my, pharaoh… Working yourself into a bit of a worry, aren’t we?” The look on Atem’s face made Bakura grin wickedly. The pharaoh looked on at the pale-haired yami in utter shock. Slowly, the spirit of the Millennium Ring drew closer. His eyes glinted with coldness, his pose was cocky. “And all for my sake? I should be touched.” He brought one hand to his chest, placing it above his heart, as though he were truly touched. For some time, Atem could do nothing but gape.
“Y-you… Here…” The pharaoh said incoherently. Bakura just laughed. Atem’s gaze turned angry, and he regained control of himself. “What is going on, thief? How are you here? Where is your host? What have you done with him?” His tone was angry and perhaps a little arrogant, and Bakura merely gave him a grin in response. “Answer me!” Atem advanced on the thief, who retreated against one wall. Shadows covered half of his body, making him look eerie.
“Oooh, pharaoh’s getting twitchy.” Bakura mocked, crossing his arms over his chest. “I have done nothing with my host, as you should clearly know by now. I do not try to hurt him—he is my landlord, after all. I am but a guest to his body.” He spoke mockingly—both knew that this wasn’t true. “And, honestly, I can’t fully give you the answers to your questions. Mainly because I do not know them myself.” His smirk widened as Atem’s gaze narrowed dangerously. “How I got here is simple. When you were not paying attention, I sealed a piece of my soul into your Millennium Puzzle after a duel with a Ghoul. During Battle City.. But where I… and my host… Where we currently are is complicated.”
“Tell me.” Atem demanded through clenched teeth. Bakura ‘tsk tsk’ed and the pharaoh felt his hands clenching into fists, almost enough to draw blood. The thief was acting far too cocky—it usually meant bad news for him.
“We are in another dimension, my dearest pharaoh.” Bakura said, as though it were the most obvious answer ever. Atem’s anger drained slightly, to be replaced with confusion. “A portal was formed, my host fell in. He fell out in another world. It is similar to this one, but there are no Millennium Items, no Domino, none of you.” The robber grinned and ran a hand through his spiky hair. “It’s just no fun.”
“You… another world?” Atem was struggling to absorb all of this. It would explain a good number of things—how Ryou had vanished abruptly, why he couldn’t feel the Millennium items… The pharaoh struggled not to let his confusion show by covering it with anger. “It’s been months since you first vanished from here! If you have been here—” He gestured around his soul room. “—all this time, why have you only chosen now to come to me?”
“Mainly because I hate you.” Bakura replied loftily, but then his expression became serious. “I was honestly unaware that I still had ties to this piece of my soul, pharaoh. It was only until I started to miss a challenge did I start thinking about you.” The corners of his lips quirked up and the pharaoh’s scowl faded into a smirk. “Hmm. Don’t take it personally, pharaoh. I still despise you. But you are my only true rival, and I always enjoy battling you for your Millennium Item.”
“Amazing how you’ve never managed to get it.” Atem remarked smugly, his own arms crossed over his chest. His expression was now one of confidence—he always liked being reminded that he was the King of Games, that he could defeat almost anybody. “One would think that after how long you’ve been after it, you’d be closer to getting it…”
“Hush. I’m still working on it.” Their conversation with each other had changed into an almost… companionable exchange. Bakura uncrossed his arms, and pushed away from the wall, walking towards Atem. “We—I say this because it is more than just I who have been taken from our worlds—have not yet found a way back. But I have been wanting to try an experiment, to see how close of a connection I still have with this world. I wanted to pull someone out of here—specifically you. If I can be that precise, then maybe…”
Atem cocked his head to the side as the thief trailed off thoughtfully, his eyes growing blank as he thought. The pharaoh shook his head firmly, however. “You cannot possibly do that.” He said firmly. “I do not wish to go to this… other dimension of yours. Especially if you have not found a way back yet. Yugi belongs here; I cannot just allow my host to be pulled from this world. Especially for something so meaningless as to take the edge off your boredom.” Atem had to admit, however… the thought of going was tempting. Nothing was really going on here. The most important thing Yugi had to focus on was schoolwork. Atem preferred it when there was some kind of battle going on, something for him to play and win. As long as nobody’s life was in danger.
Bakura grew angry at this, however, and his lips compressed into a thin line. “Idiot.” He hissed, his eyes slitting. “You think I would merely bring you to where I am because I’m bored? You—bringing you with me—might just be the key I need to return to Domino. My host is in an even greater threat at times here. So you cannot just ignore me because you believe I am doing this for myself. I’m even doing it for you! You cannot unlock your own past without my existence there.” Atem frowned—this part was true. He had even been talking about it with Yugi. “You need me back as much as I need to be back. This isn’t over something as trivial as games and amusement.” Bakura’s anger faded slightly, and he smirked. “Though I do have to admit, it would be fun…”
“Yes, I do need you here.” Atem admitted bitterly—he really hadn’t wanted to admit this. He didn’t want to admit anything about needing the parasitic thief. “But you say your own host is in bigger danger there? There is no way I want Yugi to be there. I’m sorry—only for your host’s sake—but there is no way I will risk Yugi’s well being to help you out.” Bakura’s eyes glinted coldly, and Atem tried to meet the other yami’s glare, but didn’t do so well. “Find your own way back, but do not attempt to use me at all.” At that, he put his foot down firmly. End of discussion, no more questions asked.
“You filth.” Bakura snarled at Atem. He had had to step on his own pride to acknowledge that he might need Atem’s help. And here he was, being flatly refused. “You claim to want to help mortals, and yet you turn your back on this case. Is your grudge against me really that strong? Well, I suppose it is.” He chuckled lightly. “Then again, you’ll never know. Not if you don’t have your memories. Your memories—and your afterlife—are something you can only get with me present. You would turn your back on that, on all of that, just because it would be inconvenient to you and your pathetic host? Yes, you would be at greater danger coming here, but would it not be worth it to someday unlock your past and move on from this mortal life?”
Atem’s eyes widened slightly. He had always realized that Bakura had known more about the Millennium Items, more about the past in general, but… He had rarely offered so much information on it. Vague hints at the most. But here, he was plainly stating that not only did the secrets of his past depend on having all seven Millennium Items, but also the items had something to do with his afterlife. Atem had no idea how he was to get to his afterlife… He had believed that he would be forever tied to the Millennium Puzzle, to be passed from host to host until… Well, forever. “Just what kind of danger are you talking about?” He asked suspiciously.
“Mainly hotheaded teenagers with more power than they know they have.” Bakura said bitterly, rubbing the back of his head. There was no mark there, but he remembered getting an injury. He had a strong mental connection with the main portion of his soul, the one in the Millennium Ring, so he could recall everything that happened over there. His main self would soon remember everything that was happening over here. They both existed at once, as the same person. It was… complicated. “One lost control and might have killed someone, but I’ve recently gained possession of a deck of duel monsters, so something like that can’t happen again.” He grinned momentarily. “Please make sure your god cards are with you at all times. I might pull you into this world at any time.”
Atem scowled at the thief. “Hey, now, I never agreed to any of this. I will not have Yugi in any kind of danger. Besides, he needs to remain here.” Bakura rolled his eyes and looked generally irritated. Honestly, Atem was surprised that a conversation with the thief had lasted this long without either trying to kill the other. The tomb robber was acting suspiciously… human.
“Whoever said I was giving you a choice?” Bakura sneered nastily at the pharaoh. “Besides, you keep bringing up the point that your host ‘needs’ to stay in Domino. Are you trying to imply that my host does not belong there? That, somehow, he is less important than little Yugi in your world?” Atem looked slightly stunned. He hadn’t realized it until then, but he was kind of implying that. Bakura’s expression turned bitter. “Hmph. Of course that is what you are trying to imply. You have grown far too used to being the center of attention, King of Games. My host has become nothing more to you than another of your cheerleaders. Ah, well. I do prefer to lurk in the shadows, after all… It’s only natural that my host should do the same.”
“That isn’t… I don’t…” Atem attempted to explain, but failed and instead just exchanged glared with Bakura. “Since when do you feel the need to stand up for your host? Especially since he isn’t being threatened in a life-or-death situation.” Atem honestly had very little idea how to go about insulting Bakura. Apparently trying to mock his relationship with his host was the wrong way of going about it. Bakura tossed his head back and laughed.
“I see you have seemed to reach a stopping point, pharaoh.” Bakura said with a grin, when he finished laughing. “If that’s the best you can come up with… Anyway, I should be going now. I’ve gotten as much information as I’m going to get from you.” Bakura turned and began to retreat further into Atem’s soul room. Abruptly he paused, and turned to glare at the pharaoh. “I’ve given you plenty of warning, pharaoh. I will discover a way to pull you into my current dimension, and it will be abrupt. Prepare yourself as much as you can.” He strode away at that, leaving Atem to watch curiously. The pharaoh chose not to follow him, and Bakura merely faded along with the shadows lurking in the corners of the maze that was Atem’s mind.
“Damned thief…” Atem muttered to himself as he slowly made his way back to the main area of his soul room, before the door. He briefly checked to make sure Yugi was still asleep; he was. “He’s just complicating things.” He could huff and puff all he wanted, but this little interaction with the thief did do some good. At least he wasn’t fretting about how and why Bakura had vanished from school. And there might be a way to get him back. He had been fairly warned. “He’s up to something…”

[-grovels at your feet- Augh... I reread your post just after I posted and noticed that you handed Mikuru water already... I'm so sorry.]
Bakura retreated back into the mansion when this task was done, and Mikuru stared bleakly at the shut door before turning to Rei. She looked miserable, but was trying to hide it. "I don't know why..." She said faintly, sitting back down on the lawnchair. Bakura was such a b*****d, she realized.

Bakura felt frustrated as he headed back into the mansion. Damned women… He might almost regret sleeping with Mikuru as much as she did. The resentful spirit went to the elevator and hit a random button without caring what floor he went to. He ended up on the fifth floor, and after idly examining the music room, went into one of the many living rooms that littered the house. With so many televisions around, he wasn’t too surprised that so many people and creatures were falling out all over the place.
Still bitter, Bakura flopped down on the couch and shut his eyes, reaching out mentally, searching around. Ryou was still dormant, so Bakura turned his attention on his other self—the one he had sealed in the Millennium Puzzle. They didn’t speak, just silently exchanged information of what had happened. The smaller piece of his soul was surprised that he had slept with a woman, and Bakura slowly went over the conversation he had had with the pharaoh. The spirit hadn’t been honestly considering bringing the pharaoh here, but it sounded tempting now…
The problem was, while he may have acted smug around the pharaoh, he had no idea how to go about trying to bring one specific person to this realm. He certainly couldn’t do it alone, not with the Millennium Ring so weakened. But he knew that the Millennium Ring could help. It was linked with the other Millennium Items, it had to help. He just needed more energy. Groaning a little, he sat up, trying to think. It would take a little while for the Millennium Ring to recharge, and he just didn’t have the patience to wait. He wanted to steal someone’s energy, but they would have to be skilled in magic, not just physical energy. But who…?
---
“We have to face the others sometime.” Sora eventually commented to Riku. They were both up on the roof—Sora didn’t like it for one second. But he had to stay with Riku. He had promised Rei that. And Riku refused to leave. “Better sooner than later. Haven’t you pouted around here long enough?” Silence. Sora prodded at Riku, then sighed unhappily when there was no response.
Riku calmly ignored his brunet friend. He sat on the railing of the roof, and was only a foot or so from plummeting to his death, if he fell. But Sora would catch him, or he could form a dark portal beneath him. He wasn’t worried. The white-haired keyblade bearer stared out across the ocean, which he could see excellently from this height. Inuyasha was on the beach below, and had begun to swing his large sword at invisible targets.
“Ri-ku…” Sora whined, shivering from the winds up here. “Let’s please go back in. I can knock you out and drag you with me, but I’d really appreciate it if you just came with me. Puh-leeze, Rikuuuuu…” He took a hold of Riku’s sleeve and tugged. With an angry snarl, Riku ripped his arm out of Sora’s grasp and hopped off of the railing onto the roof.
“You are such a child.” Riku said vehemently. “I’ve already apologized. And I don’t see what the point of going back down there is, since they clearly—” Riku abruptly froze, his eyes widening and his entire form stiffening. Sora tilted his head to the side, trying to see what was the matter. Riku held up a hand, a dark portal appeared behind him, and he stepped backwards into it. Sora was taken by surprise and quickly moved forward, but was too late. It closed up behind Riku at once.
---
Mikuru looked over at Rei, surprised. She gave a weak smile at the other girl. "You're lucky to be with Ryou." Mikuru finally said with a sigh. Not that she'd consider what she had done with Bakura 'being with him.' "He's just completely the opposite of the spirit."
