I have a really fun story coming along in my Creative Writing class. The teacher is really cool, too. She lets us listen to music, gives us fair due dates, and gives us plenty of time during class to write it. The only problem I'm having right now is that I can't end the story. Its only supposed to be a short story, but mine is developing into a novel. So I'm going to have to cut it about halfway through and finish the rest on my own time.
Heres the basic synopsis:
Aiden Kasra (named after a character I had in an RP once) becomes the squad leader of a battalion of Imperial Legionaries, only to immediately find himself thrust onto the pedestal as a hero. Unfortunately, the officiated Imperial Heroes are expected to die. Soon, he is sent into the Great Catastrophe, a staggering battle thats lasted for 30 years and has taken millions of lives. During the battle, he meets another hero, Jack Griffon (another character I had in an RP). The two join their recognition to turn the tide of the Great Catastrophe, but turn against the Empire itself soon after when ordered to attack a civilian town. A young girl in tow, they will have to find a way to elude the Imperial guard and the entire Imperial Legion while aiding the mangled Gaian military (mad creds!).
I have a few general visuals for the settings. The Great Catastrophe is supposed to be a huge, barren plain where the Imperials and the Gaians have been smashing into each other aimlessly. Little strategy is used, and the general thought is that huge masses of soldiers will simply be pushing forward (think the battle on Geonosis in Star Wars, only a LOT more soldiers). Since this battle has been going this way for 30 years, the entire battlefield would be covered in skeletons and half-decayed corpses hundreds of feet thick in places. I'm still not sure how Jack and Aiden would be able to throw the battle into the Imperial's favor. I'll figure it out.
Also, Jack Griffon is supposed to be considerably older than Aiden. Jack is going to be the most legendary of Heroes, the only one to be able to survive with the blessings of the Emperor. Aiden will be pretty young, about 20, while Jack will be about 40. Aiden is my own creation, but I model Jack heavily through Solid Snake. You know, the whole "I don't care what you do, just don't get in my way softy-at-heart" thing. No, I didn't rob the name. Jack was the name of my RP character from a while back, and was not in any way affiliated with Solid Snake.
This is where I'm quite proud of myself. The genre is going to be a mixture of sci-fi and fantasy. It will have guns and an evil Empire, while still maintaining a lot of fantasy features. There will be monsters, zombies, and the like roaming around this world. The guns don't fire bullets, but a form of magic that causes just as much damage. Kinda like laser bolts. I think of the guns as resembling those in Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2.
I won't spoil anything for you, since I intend on showing you guys the finished product, but my love of plot twists will be evident. Also, note that a lot of this is inspired by video games. Thats just one more thing I need Jack Thompson to shut up about. Games inspire creativity, as does music. Actually, a Greek philosopher actually wrote something about the things that men are capable of behind inspiring music.
Oh, and I'd love to hear your guys' input and suggestions. I want this to be my own creation, but I like to think of it as cooperative brainstorming.
