"It wasn't your fault," Arlen assured her, before recallling the story, which I don't really feel like typing out again.
Guan nodded as he lisened. "I think I see what happened. Tell me, when you first used the White Flame, how did you feel? What were you thinking about?"

Lily hugged Arlen tightly as he related the story, then put her head on his shoulder. "The first time..." she mused aloud. "Weren't we..." her eyes went to Guan and she turned crimson. "Uh, never mind. Th-that probably wasn't the first t-time." she stammered.

"I was feeling love," Arlen said, putting an arm around Lily as he smiled at the memory. "My love for Lily, and how I wanted to care for her no matter what happened."
Guan smiled knowingly as he surmised what they were doing when it happened. "And how about when the spirit possessed Lily? How did you feel then?"

Lily was still blushing; his answer had caused a rather pleased and loving expression to light her eyes, but only intensified the flush. At the next question, she bit her lip, eyes darting to the upper left corner of the ceiling.

Arlen was much slower to answer, and he withdrew his arm before he did. "I was angry..." he said, and shook his head, his body shaking gently. "I was hateful. I hated whatever it was that was possibly harming Lily, and I wanted to hurt it back, but I couldn't."

Feeling him shaking, Lily's arms immediately wrapped around him again, and she nuzzled his neck. "It's okay..." she whispered, needing to comfort him and not knowing how as she shot a look to Guan.

Guan sighed as he watched Lily comfort Arlen. "So when you used the White Flame, you were filled with a positive desire, the desire to care for Lily. However, when you used what is known as the Crimson Blaze you were filled with a negative desire, the desire to do harm. Each of the five flames has a positive and negative element, but you must follow only one of the paths. When you summoned the White Flame, which in itself is an impressive feat, you chose the positive path. Unlocking another ability through the opposite method is like fueling a fire with pine needles. All you get is a lot of smoke that chokes out what fire you had already built up."

"Oh!" Lily exclaimed, the pieces clicking. "I get it." she murmured softly, nodded, then kissed Arlen's cheek, cuddling him carefully. "Are... are you okay sweetheart?"

Arlen nodded softly. "Does that mean, my magic is gone?" he asked, almost afraid of the answer.
Guan shook his head. "You're magic will most likely never leave you. However, you must start over, and this time make sure you use good fuel."

Lily nodded again, kissing Arlen's cheek, then put her head on his shoulder again. "Good fuel is a better idea. You don't want to become like Xaldin, after all."

Arlen nodded again, leaning his head against Lily's.
"Might I ask about Xaldin?" Guan said gently, he had heard the name, but then it was barely whispered in fear of retribution.

"He's a heartless b*****d." Lily answered, voice cold, but with a hint of fear buried beneath that, and her arms had tightened around Arlen. "I don't know where he is now, but I'm sure he's plotting something horrible. At least the dreams have stopped. What do you want to know, Master Guan?"

Reaching the subject of Xaldin, Arlen wrapped his arms around Lily again, knowing she would need the comfort.
"I have just heard rumors of a powerful and slightly mad wizard by the name," Guan said. "You wouldn't happen to be on his bad side would you?"

"Um, just a little." Lily answered hesitantly, snuggled close to Arlen, ears trembling. "He... he kind of created me." she added in a whisper. "I shouldn't really exist..."

"You should exist," Arlen said, holding Lily tightly. "I'd be absolutely lost without you."
Guan nodded. "I see. Well in any case you both should be careful. It seems you each will be pursued by powerful wizards who would seek to do you harm."
