Kai sighed as she rubbed her head.

Stupid Koichi...

She was on the way back to the Shi Plateau far more determined to learn Henge no jutsu than ever before. She'd planned very well indeed in her scheme to secretly learn the jutsu. Her mother had in fact gone into a long speech about how doing one's best was the best one could ever do. She then proceeded to bake a small batch of cupcakes. Her father laid a hand on her head and smiled.

But when her brother found out, he didn't ridicule her. He didn't taunt her about being an inferior ninja or rub in her face that she was too young and lacked the proper talent to do it.

And to be honest, he seemed a bit disappointed before continuing his dinner and evening in silence. He went to bed early that night.

She'd felt kind of bad after that, even stayed up for hours waiting for him to come to her room and ridicule or force some words of encouragement. But he never came. She'd slept fitfully for a good hour and a half or so when...

She'd lurched awake only to find herself precariously suspended upside down over the well in the garden.

"W-what's going on?!" she cried in shock.

"What have I been training you for?" he asked coldly.

"Huh?" she'd stammered the blood having rushed to her head a short while ago.

"You couldn't even pull off that first and most basic of jutsu? Not even once?" he demanded with a dangerous edge to his voice.

"Let me down, Koichi," she insisted, refusing to let him scare her.

Unfortunately, he did scare her. And she was fairly certain that he knew it. Much like their father, with brown eyes and dark green hair, Koichi was a handsome young nin sixteen years old. He was nearly 6"4 with a lean build and the presence of a ninja a good deal older. Koichi reminded her more of her family's stories about her father in his younger years, than any image her father could have struck himself.

He'd glared at her with a near murderous glint in his eyes and for the first time in a good number of years, Kaiho had feared for her life.

"I'm only going to ask you this once more. Did you or did you not complete the jutsu successfully at least one time?"

She hesitated and he hissed menacingly, forcing her to answer.

"One time! I got it... one time..." she sighed before gasping as he pulled out a shuriken.

"I see. I knew that no sister of mine could be so useless, even as a novice... You know that I can just go to your teacher and find out if you lie from now on?" he asked with a grin.

"I- I'm sorry, Koichi."

He grinned as he moved around towards the house. Realizing that she'd been silly to think that he'd hurt her, she released a breath she hadn't realized that she'd been holding. But quickly her face dropped the relief and adopted anger. How dare he scare her like that! Who did he think he was?

"Why, Kai. You look a little steamed. Maybe you should cool off for a while. Just remember to get some sleep before you head back to school tomorrow. Oh and try to do your best so we don't have to do this again," he laughed as he threw the shuriken, cutting the rope and dropping her into the frigid mountain water below.

On her way back out she'd slipped on a particularly wet and slimy stone and bumped her head on the way back down. A mark that still stung the next morning.

She saw Keiko-sensei along with a couple of other students and decided to get straight to training. Taking up her stance and remembering that she wasn't in the clearest of minds she decided to do the hand signs very slowly this first time and move on from there. Maybe she could more easily pull off the jutsu when she was angry?

"Henge!"

Just like yesterday....
And just like yesterday, she wasn't about to quit. Besides, if Koichi decided to talk to Keiko-sensei and decided that she hadn't tried hard enough, she didn't want to think of what else he could do. After all, she'd only been hurt last night because she didn't pay attention on her way out of his 'little punishment'.
But this was a new day and she wasn't about to let one little set back make her stop. She now needed to master this jutsu. Her psycho brother demanded it.

"Henge!"

Some things will come easily to you, some things will require your full concentration and will continue to elude you. But you had better damn well try something!

It was funny. She was trying harder to appease the crazy man that had told her just that phrase. Though she couldn't figure out how he could be so mean and yet she knew he cared.

"Henge," she whispered as she gave herself over to thoughts of her odd family.

[[Failure. This is getting a little tiring...but hey, Rome wasn't built in a day...]]

She paused as she started to feel that strange sensation of weakness again. Kai knew that she wasn't out of chakra yet. She knew that feeling, and this one was similar. She could still stand but pulling on her chakra...
It was hard. So hard it almost hurt her to try.

What is going on?

Shaking her head to clear it and not trusting her body to hold out much longer, she moved her hands as quickly as she could while maintaining her forms and tried again.

"Henge!"

[[Failure]]

Kai was starting to wonder if she was getting sick. Her vision had gone very hazy and she stumbled a bit to one side. Now, her body was starting to feel extremely fatigued. Her arms were heavy and seemed to want nothing more than to lay lifelessly at her sides. Her legs felt like lead weights. Still refusing to allow that to slow her down, she prepared to do the jutsu one last time.

"I only have enough left to do one...Henge!" she whispered fiercely.

[[Super Failure.]]

Shaking her head and straightening her shoulder, Kai nodded to Keiko-sensei and turned back down the trail to Iwagakure. Once at the outskirts her fatigue set in completely. Her vision blurred even worse than before and as she took another step she felt herself pitching forward. Before she could slam into the ground she felt a solid arm stop her fall.
She was turned and hefted in a strong grip. She looked up and just made out the dark green hair and could feel more than see his worried gaze.

"Koi...chi?" she murmured.

What was wrong with her, even her voice was gone.
He snorted at her weakened state and continued to carry her back to the house.

"I used to get it too. Mom calls it 'chakra fatigue'. You know, instead of trying to do them one after another, you can stop and take a rest. Maybe that way you won't have to crawl home. Sleep, Kai," he ordered gently.

She tried to speak but he gave her a soft shake and shook his head.

"I guess you've done enough for today," he smiled as her eyes drifted shut.

"Keiko-sensei?" Katagi called out for the sensei that would help him with his first jutsu. "Giglamesh-sensei sent me here to learn about my first jutsu...I can't practice with the rest of the class until i learned about this jutsu." He was going to put 110% into this and hopefully it would work out...more like he hoped luck was on his side. "Mom and dad isnt here to help me...this is all on my own...."

Mai felt like screaming, this was not supposed to be this hard, all the rest of the class had managed it, her parents had, everyone could do this jutsu, except Mai. 'You can do it, your just not concentrating hard enough' she though as she put all her focus into the jutsu. "Henge no jutsu" she said confidently.

"Henge no jutsu hn? This should be easy..." With the required handseal he focused as he said the jutsu name. "Henge no jutsu!" He prayed for it to work but will the luck be on his side? He wished his mother and fathers 'good luck at the acadamy' came in today.

(oh jeez...)

"Shimata!" The vulgar word echoed through his mind as he made the jutsu once again. "Come on! just a few times and i can get this jutsu over with!" Closing his eyes he once again stated the jutsu. "Henge no jutsu!"
