Red Kutai I'm glad things are going so well for you, certainly!
What sort of volunteer work is it that you're involved with?
Currently, I'm preparing to do some volunteer work at the local hospital, which is basically a dream come true for me, because I want to be a doctor. It's going to be starting on April 9th and I'm really excited, even if I know I probably won't be doing much more exciting than organizing files.
I'm kind of nervous for tomorrow though. It's the Spring Festival at my school (really just an assembly with presentations from each academy) and I'm going to be in it and oh goodness... redface I'll be all fine when it's actually time to do it, but before then I'll be a bundle of carefully concealed nerves!
I don't really know anything about you, so hi! What do you do in your spare time, besides read the RL woes of people like me (which must be ever so interesting for you)?

Red Kutai Might I suggest what I suggested to jonjon, then: lurk louder. whee
Certainly a pleasure to see you here, nonetheless. 3nodding
If one were to lurk louder, would it truly be called lurking still? redface However, it is amusing to see all the posting being made recently. How many people did you ninja quote...? o.o

Silk Kanishk Red Kutai It's still curious to me how many people join this Guild, but never stop by to say 'hello'... sweatdrop
Oh hi there, mr.frog. :3nod. I'm usually spending what little time I have on zOMG! and our thread in the forum. Guilds are usually always an afterthought. Hey Silky. I'm back to playing zOMG. I was reading a story about Star Wars The Old Republic recently. The producers were bragging about how players love Sundays (play more on Sunday). And oh yeah these "epic" 4 hour sessions. I thought "4 hour sessions? That's all? zOMG players crush that. What about 12 hour sessions?" The other thing I got -- besides the fact that zOMG players are so incredibly superior to swtor players -- is a comment the producers made: when players love the game, they play the game and when players are mad at the game they spend all of their time in the forums. I'm playing zOMG the game. Got crew? pirate

That's awesome! I am so grateful to the people who volunteered for the music program I used to be in, so the fact that you've done that type of thing makes me very happy.
What other type of things do you do (outside of volunteer work, I mean)?

Glad to see you have time once again, S2. zOMG! needs every last player it can get. pirate And I'll admit zOMG!'s fanbase proved to be pretty hardcore in staying up several hours to DMS although to be honest, with the negative backlash that DMS has brought about, it made me realize that DMS though great as it is and being a boon to zOMG!, perhaps wasn't a step in the right direction. sweatdrop And lmao! rofl While that's one way of looking at it, I've always felt that I'm not old enough to be a forum regular. (As in, someone who's played the game to death and become too sick of it but has grown to love the community too much to leave and thereby resides on the forums). I think I still have a year or more in me. razz

That negativity was something that needed to happen for the sake of the game's future and the community as a whole. It certainly could've been facilitated in a better way (as with everything pertaining to DMS, natch), but I feel the confrontation that underlied it was necessary for the longterm health of the game. 3nodding

I don't think I was anywhere near 'sick' of zOMG! by the time I started loitering in the zOMG! Forum - to be honest, I don't think I'd yet finished the game at that point. I believe the logic early on was simply that I had more brains than I had time, so the choice on which to invest in zOMG! was an easy one... sweatdrop

To clarify, I wasn't talking about the forum drama, I was talking about the genuine frustration people experienced having to play for several hours at a time and having to expend several powerups in order to do so. In my opinion, zOMG! was never meant to be a hardcore game, it was as people say, an extension of the community, a casual game where people can hang out and play games and earn some gold. I wish to that end, they would've worked in more party games. xp Quote: And lmao! rofl While that's one way of looking at it, I've always felt that I'm not old enough to be a forum regular. Red Kutai Mr Liaison Red Kutai Mr Liaison Anyway, is this going to be a magazine like GOM and all that? Like, uploaded onto Issuu or some other website? To be quite honest, I don't know what we would even consider publishing - the Guild here is primarily about kicking around ideas for the game, so the only kind of publishing one could reasonably expect for those ideas would be implementation. And unfortunately, we have neither the authority nor the resources to achieve that. sweatdrop
Did something in particular make you think otherwise? redface
Eh, z!magine seemed like some weird on purpose typo for magazine ;D Ah, I can see where you'd get that; I was a little hesitant to use the name at first for precisely that reason (I kept reading it as 'z-magazine' - dyslexia is a hobby of mine), but it grew on me pretty quickly. If you can't tell, it's a portmanteau of the "z!" prefix (used to refer to most anything zOMG!-related, "z!F" most notably) and the word "imagine" - personally, I pronounce it "zee-magine," but I wasn't the one who came up with it, so I may well be butchering the intent. sweatdrop
If I were going for a publication, I'd probably go with "magaz!ne," which is - I suppose - a near-anagram of the current name of the Guild. If we ever come up with a reason to create a 'z!magine magaz!ne,' though, I'll be certain to let you know... wink
I'm aware this is an old post, and I'm aware that you were kidding, but if this ever becomes even a consideration, let me know. Outside of Gaia, making layouts for newspapers, magazines and e-publications is my job. (And if there are questions in AP-style article writing, I've got that covered too!) I'd happily help you guys get off your feet! And I just got wayyy too excited seeing something I can relate to in this thread... Overboard, I know. Sorry!

Silk Kanishk I've always been more of a gamer, so I'll always gravitate towards playing the game as opposed to posting on the forum. wink Considering how much I have invested in zOMG! (and other games, as it were), I'm pretty comfortable claiming the title of "gamer" for myself, as well. But I think I understand the distinction you're trying to make, nonetheless. razz

As much as I was joking at the time - and can't personally imagine how we'd accomplish it - if you have any ideas for how such a publication might work, I'd certainly be interested in airing the discussion. The Guild could obviously use anything that might spur more interaction, and I know that I'd personally be interested in learning more about publication design, nonetheless.
Actually, I've considered publishing something previously; but that was much less a magazine, and much more an extended development guide to zOMG!. Something tangible, that I could physically hand to Lanzer if I ever make it to Fanime - but I'm afraid something that direct would require a good deal of information to which I do not currently have access. Nonetheless, it makes for a particularly satisfying daydream... sweatdrop

Well, then I feel like I should clarify a bit on my actual job. I'm the editor-in-chief of a company that handles a few publications -- magazines, look books, newspaper etc. I'd be able to assist with anything in that whole publishing realm, not just design. I just chose that to emphasize because design just seems to be the thing that sucks up most of my time. It's also [debatably] more important than the content. Shh. Don't let the writers know! This perhaps isn't the thread for such an in-depth conversation, but if you are truly interested (or just want to dabble) with the idea of creating a physical document, I'd be more than happy to run you through some things via PM. It might spark some ideas as to what the document would actually contain. I, of course, wouldn't bore you with the technical jargon. Just keep in mind that I am an editor. Creating isn't a huge skill of mine. I just take everyone's ideas and creations, and I make them better. But, if it's for zOMG, I'd definitely be willing to put some effort out there. redface

I just read this in the z!F: Quote: Didn't JK say they'd only be there to work on major bugs? Since he was removed from the zOMG team too.. and he was the last one on it. I know I've been inattentive to the happenings of the game (since there seemed to be no happenings), but... what? Can someone update me?

ikally I just read this in the z!F: Quote: Didn't JK say they'd only be there to work on major bugs? Since he was removed from the zOMG team too.. and he was the last one on it. I know I've been inattentive to the happenings of the game (since there seemed to be no happenings), but... what? Can someone update me? Which half were you unaware of: that [ JK ] is no longer on the team, or that they'll actually be working major bugs? razz
[ JK ] and swarf were moved from zOMG! onto other projects in December, and that change was shared with us in... February, I think? Since DMS didn't shape up to be as profitable as they were hoping, continuing to invest in new content without some major changes looked unsound; and since there were sounder alternatives available to make use of our developers' talents, they were simply transferred.
With no active developers, the game was put in what they call "maintenance mode"; that is, the game is being maintained as-is, but they simply aren't working on adding anything to it. Currently, though, they've got one of our former developers - halzy - working on eliminating some of the game's more prevalent bugs; here is the most recent official thread on the subject. 3nodding
Personally, I think it's probably for the best that they take a break from the focus on 'new stuff' to fix what we already have - that's what the game's needed for years, really. I prefer to think of "maintenance mode" as an opportunity to step back and examine what zOMG! really needs in order to move forward successfully, without all the pressure that was forced upon it in recent months. With any luck, the community will be able to work with the developers to determine what the game really needs, and when the opportunity arises to try something new with zOMG!, they'll be able to take full advantage thereof...
