"Oh, so you finally came crawling back, a demure little kid whose seen the error of his ways?" Rei let a cynical smirk cross his lips, and laughed a little more as he kept on talking.
"You know, I've got to say, it's about time. Took you too long, if you ask me."

"Oh, look! You've seen the light of reason! Good for you!" A fake smile, coated in sarcasm and signs of evil plotting crept across the young druid's face. "Now, I propose that we get some hapless peons in the town, and experiment with this thing to see just how it works. No actual harm will come to them, per se, so we should be fine." Rei shot Nils a really mean glare, as if to only acknowledge his change in personality and his opinion of it.
"I'll act how I please, bard."

Rei rubbed his cheek, which had turned a bright red from Nils's slap. As he looked back on the meek ice dragon, he saw that he had returned his glare.
Well, would you look at that! Looks like the kid actually DID something for once. Well, good for him...
"Well, would you rather end up using it in battle, and have it's power go spiraling out of control, leading to the possible deaths of countless guildmates? Or would you prefer to know what you're doing, and have it as an actual last resort, given the dragonstone is unusable for one reason or another?"

(...Y'know, I realize I'm about to pull some pretty srs business, but it's gonna be hard to do, given that all of a sudden I watch the Eagles go from not having a chance in the world to playoff entrants. sweatdrop )

Rhys flipped the ring over and over in his hands, smiling, his goal of returning to his former power level--"OVER NINE THOUUUSAAAND", as he put it--finally realized.

"They say that a magician doesn't choose the Guiding Ring. The Guiding Ring chooses the magician," Rhys began proudly, still fingering the ring. "If I throw the ring up in the air, and it deems me worthy, it will land exactly on my ring finger. Let's give it a try, shall we?"

With his right hand, Rhys tossed the Guiding Ring up into the air. As it slowly began to come downward, he held up his left hand, some small part of him wondering if the ring would indeed land on his finger.

As the ring fell downward, he was even more excited to see the ring fall in the direction of his outstretched hand.

"That's it! Now it just needs the proper ang--"

At that moment, the ring landed perfectly around Rhys' ring finger on his left hand, a perfect fit.

At that same moment, however...

...And you think WE'RE going to let you escape our reach without a fight?

Rhys wasn't sure where the voice came from.
All he knew was that his world was rapidly fading to black as he collapsed on the floor.

(Okay, epic battle writings are cleared for takeoff!)

Nils kept the glare steady as the thought of the situation Rei described ran through his head.

"... I will keep the flute with me, for I know I will be able to resist using it a second time. And if the Dragonstone becomes unusable for some reason? So be it. I still won't use the flute. You may see it as a weapon, but I see it as something that shouldn't be used at all." He tried to keep his voice level and icy, and in fact managed to, if only barely.

Rei scoffed and put his fingers on his temples, rubbing them lightly. He then pulled his hands through his hair, letting out an annoyed groan.
"Ugh. This is pointless. This is really pointless. You're too much of a whiny little coward to use the damn flute, so whatever. That's not even what you came down here for, now was it?" Rei's eyes lit up a small bit.
"Oh, that's right. An apology. What was it that you wanted to apologize for, now?"

Nils really wanted to protest the description of him. He really, really did. However, that would have proved Rei's point. Instead, he remained silent.

That is, until the apology was mentioned. "Oh. Right. I was going to apologize for the way I acted before, but now I don't know if it's worth it, since it's obvious it won't do any good." He stated bitterly, with a hint of sadness laced in. The bard crossed his arms across his chest, sighing. His own words echoed through his mind.

"I'm going to have to slap some sense into him, get him back to the way he was! Even if it takes physically slapping him."

"... Why is it so hard, then?" He thought to himself, a frown on his face.

Why were Rei and Nils fighting? Ed sat under the tree, confused as she tuned her ears to their argument over the flute. Her mind was not quite cooperating with the situation, so Ed had nothing productive tied in with the situation. She was also a wolf. She couldn't talk in that form.

The wolf gnawed away on her ham-hock cluelessly, waiting for everyone to come and get their presents. Some of the presents had seemed harmless enough, but Nils had gotten a pretty sour gift. Ed wanted to see what else was provided...and whether or not they were corrupted.
