"You're right, it's not big enough," Maia agreed. And they couldn't kick Dari out, who knew where he and Cody would move to?
"Love, it doesn't matter where we are, as long as we're together. We could stay here." Dari would presumedly move out, once he got married, wouldn't he?

"Kevin should have his own room," Toby reasoned. How odd it felt to fight for a house you were terrified to buy! "and I know he can't go too far from work, and I know this is the dadmode in my talking, but I don't want to be too far from Dari." They never had been, for as long as Dari had existed.

"I think Dari and Cody were interested in one of the houses we saw. We'd be close," Maia offered. Kevin would have his own room. The baby would, and another for guests. "We could put in an offer, then." she suggested.

Toby sighed and slid a hand down his face. So what, then? Everyone seemed to be having a much easier time of this than him, but of course they were. They hadn't bought a house before. They hadn't lived in it for decades.
"Yeah, I guess we... yeah. I guess we should." He took in a deep breath. "let me call Dari."

Maia nodded and kissed Toby's cheek. Poor guy. She wasn't sure how to help. "Do you want anything?" She gestured towards the kitchen.

Toby shook his head. He looked more like his cat had died than he was preparing to buy a new house.
He got Dari on the phone shortly, and the real estate agent as well after a brief chat with the alien. So they were really going to do it, then. Their offers may not be accepted, of course, but with backgrounds and credit like theirs it wasn't likely.

Dari sat on the metal fence rail as they waited for their companion. He'd wanted to do this for Cody. It was almost a trick but not quite- Danny was a legitimate friend of a long-distance sort. Now his clan had moved to Arizona for the foreseeable future until they risked being caught. Dari wanted to see him more often, and at the moment he wasn't on tour with anyone or even rehearsing.
He turned to gaze sideways and he saw a familiar shape. It was fairly petite for a man, but the hair was the tell. Danny had a head full of blonde curls at the moment, and he raised a hand to wave. Dari waved back.
Danny jogged closer with a grin on his face. There was absolutely nothing obviously supernatural about him.
"Hey!" he said, and looked Dari over, "Look at you! You certainly make a handsome human. So this is Cody?" Blue eyes turned toward Cody.
"It is," Dari said, coming down off the rail, "Cody, this is Danny. Danny, Cody."
Danny stuck out a hand, still grinning.

Cody had hesitated in agreeing to come to dinner tonight; if only because this was Dari's long distance friend and he didn't want to be the third wheel.
Dari hadn't told him much about this guy, either. Basically that the guy had recently moved to Arizona from across the country. He wasn't sure what to expect, but when they met up with Danny, he seemed pretty--normal?
Which probably meant he wasn't. He took Danny's hand and shook it. "Nice to meet you," he said.

"Now, do you work for the agency?" Danny asked. He had slipped into socializing without prompting, just as Dari knew he would. Dari guided their walking from the side and slightly ahead so he could still talk, but could also get them there. Danny likely wouldn't know the city yet, although he might. Who knew?

"Nah, I'm a teacher." Cody admitted. "I'm an ally, though." He followed Dari, and looked back to Danny. "What do you do?" He asked.

"An ally?" Danny asked, "Like an official, or...?" He turned to Dari, and the alien nodded.
"What grades?" Danny asked, and then smiled. "Oh, me? I do theater!"
"Musical theater," Dari added, "We used to go and see him when he was in the area."
"Yeah," Danny agreed, "but Arizona isn't exactly a hot spot for musical tours."

"Oh, Highschool," Cody said. He was glad for Dari. Official ally? Hm. He guessed so. "Really?" He asked. "What've you been in?" He liked musicals. He hadn't taken Dari to any plays yet, maybe he ought to...
"So, where are we having dinner?"

Danny's mouth fell open and his eyes rolled up. What had he been in?
"I've been in... Spring Awakening, RENT, and A Midsummer Night's Dream for the last three. I've been at this a while, so I couldn't say them all," he finally said.
"And you still play teenagers," Dari commented.
"Of course! It's a gift."
Dari turned to Cody then. "Da Legna." Their favorite pizza place, complex enough for Dari but still definitely just good ole pizza.
"Is that Italian?" Danny asked.
"Pizza."
"Oooh."

"I haven't taken Dari to any live shows," Cody mused. He looked to Dari. "I thought we might when Phantom of the Opera comes to town?"
His smile brightened when Dari named his favorite restaurant. "You haven't been there?" He asked, looking to Danny. "It's the best place in town! You'll like it!"

Danny tsked. "I missed auditions by a month. They needed a pretty tenor, too." Then he responded to Cody. "Oh, no! We haven't been here long, so I haven't been much of anywhere. I still need to scope out the city."
"It's good downtown," Dari said, "There's a lot to do, and everything's open late."
