"It's not so bad. They give you lessons before they send you out, and we could always share a horse. You don't weigh anything." Besides, the sort of people who honored horses over modernism certainly valued marriage. It would work for them, not against them.
Marriage.
He was married.
Toby grinned for no outward reason and leaned over to kiss Maia's temple.
"I've never met a seal before. I mean, not except you, but you weren't a seal at the time. ...though you kind of ate like one. Thank you for not being good at hiding." He was teasing, of course, and he kissed her cheekbone again.

Share a horse? That sounded better than trying it by herself. Maia gave Toby a smile. "That sounds better than I was imagining," she said.
"Really?" Maia wasn't surprised. "Well, I'll have to introduce you to others, someday." She grinned at him. "I didn't know any better!" She gave his hand a squeeze. "I'm glad you found me." She couldn't imagine having met another agent first. Toby had been so kind to her!

"I've met a whole lot of entities, but normal everyday animals? Not so much. They're not my area of expertise. I wouldn't know what to do with a giraffe."
He chuckled then and popped the rest of the taffy in his mouth so he could wrap an arm around Maia. "I am too, even if I was an idiot about it after a while." He was speaking around the taffy tucked in the corner of his mouth, but they were married, and they had been together such a long time! Nothing was a secret any more.

"We'll have to meet one," Maia laughed. "It'd be fascinating. I only know sea creatures from experience, and I wouldn't suggest meeting half of them." She shook her head and grinned at him. "But I've heard whales are nicer when you're not seal form?" Maybe they didn't see humans as lunch.
"I'm sure Dari would say you're still an idiot," she teased. "Let's go down to the beach."

"Which beach?" Maia's house was not sitting on the only beach in the state, after all; not even in the neighborhood! They could go to any public beach and hunt for shells without a problem.
"Also, I wouldn't even suggest people hang out with my kind during a full moon. I'm sure there's a nice whale here and there."

"Our beach?" Maia suggested. "I heard there's a beach a ways away where you can find sand dollars everywhere, but I've never been." No transportation had definitely made Maia's world a small one.
"Hm. I don't know, I hang out with you every full moon," she teased. Toby had gone through so much to get to that point, too. She took a taffy and unwrapped it thoughtfully. "Some species of seal eat penguins."

"All species of werewolf eat people, so..." Toby smirked and shrugged. He was just a well-trained sort. He was an outlier. It made him oddly proud.
"So what do you say? Our beach or sand dollars? We could always take a bus, and I don't mind a walk." He was used to the Arizona heat by now. Out near the ocean like this it was much less! Besides, he lived in a suit. he got to dress casually on his honeymoon!

"Well," Maia kissed his cheek. "I'm only interested in one werewolf."
She paused to think for a moment. "We could walk," she said, giving him a smile. "I know the general direction it's in, but if we get lost..." she paused and smirked at him. "We don't have Dari here to help us."

Toby's face fell and he narrowed his eyes briefly.
"You're leaving me for Cody?"
The expression only remained a moment, though, before he smirked and then smiled and kissed Maia's cheek. "It's good to know how I rate, although you've met some werewolves I bet you didn't know were werewolves!" At holidays, for example.
"If we get lost, we have an adventure. I'm not worried. We have GPS and money for the bus. ... and a phone. ... in case we have to call Dari." He didn't mind getting lost, especially not with Maia, but if night started coming and they were still wandering aimlessly it probably wasn't the best idea to continue being lost.

Maia laughed and shook her head. "Dari would never speak to me again, if that was the case!" She smiled at him. "You'd still be number one," she said.
"Well, we've got food and necessary supplies," she was looking at the bag of taffy before she returned her gaze to her husband. "Let's have an adventure. This way," she pointed forward.

"Damn straight!" Toby said with a laugh. He nodded then and released Maia from his hold, though that may have been partially so he could offer her a taffy before taking another for himself. What did he have to worry about? He was in shape.
"We should rent a boat one of these days. It might be nice, to go out in." Of course he wasn't sure exactly how one found a boat rental place or how they'd get it back to their beach.

Maia took the taffy offered with a smile. She unwrapped it and popped it into her mouth. "We can do that," she said. The public beaches had boat launches; that could go to any one of them.
"There's a boat place somewhere in all those touristy shops," She gestured vaguely behind them. "We got one there last time."

"Is that the only place?" Toby turned curiously to Maia. "I'm hesitant to put in a different name, but I think that's the agent in me talking. I don't think they'd remember our faces really. ...maybe yours." A beautiful blonde, tan woman covered in freckles? People might remember her, even years later.
"Did you know that I'm capable of tracking? Like if we find the beach once, we wouldn't get too lost later... if I can remember it. Cody can too, I guess. Dari... cheats."

"They wouldn't remember me!" She grinned and shook her head. She'd only been that once. Was it the only place? Maia couldn't think of another. Oh! There was another. "There's one on the public beach," she offered. "We could do that."
"You never told me that," Maia smiled at him. "That's handy. You should know, though, even if I've been to a place twice, I could still get lost. Dari cheats at everything," she added. The guy remembered everything! He could never mistake a stranger for someone he knew or get lost.

"I'm not very good at it," Toby admitted with a little laugh, "I get lost all the time, regardless of what I can smell. It's something that needs to be taught, I think, and I never learned... like drug-sniffers and K9s and stuff. Plus you have to be somewhere once and force yourself to remember the scent if you want to go back..."
