"You can come in, or we can get you an application next time I go in and then schedule an interview. It's the same stuff either way, just face-to-face the whole time or only half. Where would you want to work, do you think?" Lori hummed and turned a chair around to sit beside Luca. "Records or the library? They have different clearance and training."

"I could go in with you next time," Luca nodded. It'd be nice to work there; everyone he knew seemed to! "What's all involved in the records department?" He asked. He was leaning towards the library job; he knew books.

"It's keeping tab on actual records, entering data, providing files for people. It's mostly a desk job, and more customer service than the library." Lori wasn't sure what Luca was going for, really. The local library had far more patrons than the one at HQ.

A desk job? Luca made a slight face, and shook his head. Well... Maybe. He'd always liked working with people, but a desk job? "I'll think about it. And the library?" He asked.

"Bookkeeping, restoration, some data entry, then just... normal library things." Lori shrugged. "You'll probably just be doing 'normal library things' at first. The library has different clearance, but it's only barely less top secret. Barely-barely."

That sounded promising. He'd always enjoyed restoring books, outside the library anyway. Local libraries tended to take damaged books off the shelves. He'd thought that was a pity. If the cover was damaged, it was easily repaired. "When do you work next? Tomorrow?" He asked.

Lori nodded. "Tomorrow. You'll have to get up early to come with me, though. not all of us get to start mid-morning." He smiled.

The broom closet was always fun to bring people down, but interviews almost never were. Luca was lucky. He hadn't needed to talk to the Big Boss, only the head honcho at the library. It had gone well, Lori thought.
They rose out of the building and Lori smiled. "So? What do you think of it?"
The library sprawled behind a heavily-locked door in shelves and tables, all wooden, holding rows upon rows of ancient, modern, foreign, fae, magical texts. Some were behind glass and were not to be touched. Some were locked away even further, but Luca hadn't been able to see those. Not yet. Lori had confidence, however.

Luca had been nervous during the interview, but he'd lit up like a candle when he saw the library. The rows of books, the magical books--the ones behind the glass. He was absolutely fascinated. Those magical books he'd found, the ones that had brought Lori to him, he'd thought they were unique.
"I think it's amazing," he said, beaming at Lori.

Had Lori known of Luca's thoughts, he likely would have informed him that handwritten volumes were always unique.
"You think you'd like to work there?" Lori asked. He'd bothered Toby for a good word about Luca. He wasn't about to tell Luca that, though. He was sure that Luca was a good fit for the job regardless, but accepting new staff was always difficult. It was one more body that could turn against the Bureau and send it up in flames.

"I think I'd love to work there," Luca gave Lori another smile. He took Lori's hand and swayed it happily. "Thank you for telling me about the job, love," he said. A chance to work in a place like that! That was worth all the nervousness he'd faced earlier.
"What would you like to do now?" He asked.

"Of course," Lori said with a nod. Luca working at HQ was different than Luca working directly with them. There was no good reason to put that stress on a relationship. It never worked.
"I don't know. What do you want to do? We could go get Rosie and go for a walk? It's a nice day."

"Let's do that," Luca smiled. It was a nice Spring day, sunny but not too warm. He placed a kiss on Lori's cheek. "Let's go get her."

Maia was delighting in showing Toby the town. They'd stopped for saltwater taffy, selecting various flavors.
They'd stopped in a few of the shops, too. Some of them seemed to have the same things, at different prices. "That place used to be a dollarstore," Maia pointed. It was a two-dollar store now. "And that one used to be a restaurant." It was now advertised as a rent a horse business. "They have horses on the beach, I never liked them." She grinned at him, swaying their hands. "What do you want to do, love?"

Toby was eating taffy as they strolled. The idea of sweets had grown on him over time, maybe because they made Maia so happy.
"We have to ride horses on missions on occasion," he said after swallowing a gob of blue taffy. "I don't mind them, but sit on one for too long..." Your a** and legs really started to hurt. Cars weren't always efficient, though, and they weren't always accepted.
"Oh, I don't care. Anything. Is there a place you want to visit in particular, or...? We could go shell-hunting if you want to head back."

"Really? I'll have to learn, then," Maia smiled at him. "I don't know how well I'll do off the ground," she added, thoughtfully. "Maybe you can teach me."
She looked around and shrugged. "Anywhere is good," she said, "As long as I'm with you. We could look for seaglass." Shells were harder to find, people went out in the mornings to collect them. "Maybe our friends will come visit," she grinned at him.
