Kem cards are made of cellulose acetate. They are virtually indestructible unless you freeze them, because then they can shatter.
They feel like a paper or plastic, but always restore to their perfect shape when you bend them.
My mother also has a set, and it's in perfect condition after 30 years. >.>
A single deck of Kem cards takes months to make, and that's why they start at about $30 a deck.
