Pet Shop couldn't hep but let out a loud caw, more than pleased that the tree like foe had been felled, and were the flowery trainer not so quick to recall her pokemon he could have followed through with molting his ruffled feathers over it's body as the ultimate sign of disrispect. He wouldn't have to wait long though for another opponent, and before him took the form of a blue pokemon with large petals atop it's head. He could actually see a bit of yellow discoloration in the air above the pod in the center of the pedals, this pokemon was highly toxic, of that there was no doubt. This didn't go unnoticed to Crenu either, a Vileplume was not something to be triffled with. As always Erika was quick to issue a command, but Crenu wasn't far behind her. "Dodge it and strike with your Aerial Ace." It was all well and good and probably would have worked, but Fearow was far too sluggish right now. And the spores were taking hold yet again. He was stuck fast, his muscles didn't listen to his body, and before he knew it the toxic sludge slammed into his body, covering his golden magnificent down in vile sludge. It was more than he could withstand, and as the poison bubbled away atop his body Pet Shop lay unable to go on giving out a weak squawk.
Crenu sighed as he recalled Pet Shop, not even one hit on her last pokemon before going down. To be weaken to such a state by a grass type...well he'd never learn if the opponent wasn't...resourceful. It was down to the final pokemon on each side. And Crenu had a choice to make. The blond took off his long black heavy coat, revealing his tank underneath as well as his complerely bandaged up arms and hands. It seemed some of his wounds had reopened as there were fresh blood stains starting to soak through from seemingly random spots of the bandages, but he didn't notice or pretended not to. It was hot in this green house of a gym, and needed to think clearly. There was a safe choice, and a gamble. Both had their pros and cons, but no matter how you sliced it there was really only one viable choice that made the most sense. Logic could not be trumped. But...logic needed to be shaken up every now and then. Maybe he'd been hanging aroudn with other trainers to much, but Crenu decided it was time to gamble. The red and white sphere flew out onto the arena, and out formed the ghostly form of Korra, his Froslass. It was time for pure speed and trickery. Korra, feeling ever so confident after her more recent sucesses, took to the stage, or arena rather, with gusto. She let out a deep wail as she floated back anf fourth, she was ready! Until she saw her poisonous oponent, the very dangerous looking flower. She was torn between beign timid and being mischevious, both traits that were natural to her. Crenu didn't care though, and instead just gave a comand as soon as she was on the field. "Korra, Hail." Hail, of coure! The move he'd picked out just for her! Korra spun aroudn and closed her eyes, her body swaying as her hands formed a ball of pure frost in between them. She held the orb in front of her chest as it grew and then suddenly released it up into the air where it exploded into a large dark cloud. But rather than rain, large chunks of jagged ice started to decend all around. She was unharmde though as they pelted her frosty body, and instead her form started to blend with the falling ice, making her seem to almsot vanish and re appear as her snow cloak came into effect.

Ricardo looked more than happy as he flew up in the air along with the rest, landing on Carlos's sombreso as the trainer was blasted into the water. Hector and his Cacturn were sent in the other direction by the sudden Earth Power. In fact even now Carlos still didn't know what had happened. One moment he was there talking to hsi brother, then the sand beneath their feet suddenly erupted. What could it have been? He hadn't noticed that his Tympole was bouncing in rhythem before hand building up the attack, which was surely an accident. The baby pokemon probably didn't even know it himself. But for now Ricardo was more than happy as they landed in the water, and he swam circles aroudn Carlos's Sombrero which floated along the surface while he lazily drifted face down a few inches away. Que madre fue eso? De donde? Y porque? Ah whatever. Now I'm all mojado. Well, it is a hot day. Suppose I was gonna go for a swim anyway. He chuckled as he rolled over and started to back stroke lightly, Ricardo swimming over to him with his sombrero in his mouth. Now luckily Carlos had the foresight to put his guitar and poncho down on the dock when he decided to sit by the water, in case he did decide to go for a swim, but his Sombrero wasn't so lucky. Oh well, he'd have to make a new one later. Then again, it wasn't that bad. He took the hat from the Tympole and flung it away, Ricardo bouncing after it in the water to retrieve it again. Such a cutie. Hector in the mean time, had landed in the soft sand and was planted in it, most of the displaced sand having landed on him the short man was burried under it. His Cacturn seemed content to stand over him lifelessly, aparently providing him shade. "...Olle esto no es chistoso! Algien ayuda me!" He called out as he tried to wriggle aound trying to free himself.

Just because his Chimchar was paralyzed didn't mean that Ian was about to give up. "C'mon Chimchar use Scratch," he called. A few more hits either way and the match would be over and the trainer glanced over at his dark haired opponent, wondering what other sort of Pokemon she had and if perhaps they could battle using other Pokemon once they were through this mountain. Chimchar's teeth were grit in grim determination and it darted forward, rearing back its little hand to swipe its claws at Selena.
The chimp moved much faster than both Riza and her Snivy thought possible, as the strike caught them off guard. The little grass-type gave a sharp growl, making possibly the first displeased sound that Riza'd heard since the two of them had met. "You've got this, Selena!" Riza called. "One last Tackle should do the trick!" The little Snivy gave a quick nod, wanting very much to win her first battle in order to impress her new trainer, and she gave another cry, zipping forward. At the last moment she slid to a stop and pivoted, sending her lengthy tail into the Chimchar's stomach and sending it skidding back half a dozen feet before it fell to the ground, unable to keep battling. "All right!" Riza cheered, pumping her fist into the air. "Awesome job, Selena," she said, nodding. The Snivy grinned hugely, clapping her little hands together as she was obviously quite happy with herself as well.
"Not too bad for a first battle, not at all," Ian commented, having picked up his little Chimchar. The little monkey looked quite disappointed, but Ian ruffled the tuft of fur on its head. "Don't sweat it, little fella. You did the best you could." The monkey sighed and Ian put it back in its poke ball. "That Glare was what did us in for sure. Where did you get such a Pokemon, anyway? I've never seen a Snivy before."
At the question, Riza froze a bit, though it was perhaps because Selena had hopped up to her, looking as though she wished her trainer would pick her up. "She was, uh, a gift," the dark haired girl said, nodding. "Yeah, a gift. An anonymous gift. You could say she just sorta, you know, came to me." * * * * * The rest of the evening passed by without incident, mostly with Katie lounging about in the lobby of the pokecenter, browsing magazines, looking up things on the computer in the corner and watching tv. She'd managed to accumulate a decent amount of information about the town and its daycare center, and she was actually feeling quite confident. The only thing she didn't have was a plan for how she'd actually get into the center and acquire the data that Mai had requested, and the elusive egg. Surely they had security for a place like that, and the orange haired girl frowned. Perhaps this wasn't such a good idea after all.
She headed outside of the center, to the training area in the back and sat down on one of the benches. She leaned back and looked up at the sky, which was ablaze with brilliant shades of orange and red from the sunset. "What am I even doing?" she murmured, sighing heavily and closing her eyes. She pulled her phone out of her bag and held it tightly against her chest. She could always call up Mai and ask for advice, but she quickly got rid of that thought. Calling for help already? No way! Mai would think she was a pathetic loser and cut her loose right then and there. Katie opened her eyes and dragged her thumb across the lock screen, smiling at the photo of her mother beaming up at her as she did so. She considered giving Kilik a call but, what would she even say to him? Wrestling with her emotions for a little while longer, Katie pocketed her phone and stood up, deciding it was time for some training. It was far too early to sleep anyway.

Kenny gave a curious look at the kid in front of him. He somehow had a feeling that he somehow had inherited his trainers bad luck while he was acting as a trainer now, how odd was that? Anyway the kid was giving him an expectant look as he held out his hand for the pokeball Kenny had inadvertently taken. Doing his best imitation of shrugging when he didn't really have shoulders Kenny phased his hand through the bag and pulled out the pokeball and handed it back to the kid. Kenny's suspicions about having inherited his trainers luck was immediately confirmed as the kid threw the pokeball right back into his face. The ghost pokemon glared as it bounced off and landed on the ground in front of him.
"Why won't you get into the pokeball!" The kid yelled at Kenny like it was his fault the kid was so dumb. The Duskclops just glared at the kid, who didn't seem to sense the powerful ghosts annoyance and picked the ball up again and threw it at him again. "Your a pokemon aren't you! Your supposed to get into pokeballs when your caught!"
Rolling his single eye Kenny reached into the bag and pulling out his trainers card and showed it to the kid. It was a pretty old picture actually now that Kenny looked at it. It had been a long while since he had seen his trainer with long hair. The ghost remembered cutting it to save him from the crazy Ho-Oh in the tower. Of course just in time for him to fall through several floors of the building. It was funny now but then it was pretty frightening, he had been barely a few days old when that happened. Coming back from memory lane he saw the disappointed look on the kids face at the sight of Dante's trainer card.
"Oh you already belong to someone." At that the kid then broke into tears.
I hate my trainers luck. Kenny thought to himself as he wondered if he could just walk away.

Laughing at her pokemon's attitude Robin turned her attention back to the group of assembled pokemon. "All right then. Does anyone know any moves?" The pokemon all looked at each other nervously before Mr. Bunny and the Pikachu cautiously raised their hands up. Well this was going to be a lot more difficult then she thought, only two of them knew any moves, or at least thought they did. "Well all right let's see them." She tried to give them her most encouraging look.
The two of them looked unsure as they stepped forward. The Pikachu though seemed to have more spunk though as it's cheeks crackled with electricity. The electric mouse pokemon sent out a Thundershock that hit a nearby rock. Robin clapped encouragingly at the display, she just hoped that the rock was what it was aiming for, by the look on the pokemon's face though it wasn't. Still it seemed a bit more encouraged by Robin's appreciation for the move. Bolstered a bit by the display and the apperciation for it Mr. Bunny hopped forward to the other Buneary in the room and leaning forward gave a little kiss on it's cheek. Robin herself was a little confused as she watched the display wondering what exactly happened. After a second though it became apparent that the other Buneary was confused now! Haha that would be helpful! "Great Job! She cheered the two on. "Now let's see what we can teach the rest of you." Robin grinned as she pulled out her pokedex.

Jason's Onix must be full of luck because while that attack would just bounce back his tough skin it ended up hitting a weaker spot on his body. Roarks Onix gave a cry of pain as the attack hit him. Growling slightly he gathered his strength and managed to pull himself out of the other Onix's grip and escape into the dirt. "I hope your ok under there Onix." Roark called out knowing his pokemon could hear him. "Tackle it if you can." Roark called out unknowingly sending his pokemon back into the others clutches it had just escaped. His Onix just groaned but he did trust his trainer. There was also the fact that he didn't really have to many ranged attacks, and none he could really use underground at any rate. Turning around he decided to come from an unexpected angle, from above! Adjusting himself in the dirt he began his charge hoping to knock that Onix right on the head.

Now, Jasper wasn't quite sure what to expect as he entered the Violet Gym, wincing at just how loudly the doors creaked open, leaving little doubt that someone - most likely a challenger - had just entered the gym. 'Can't leave now... at least not without looking like a total tool in the process,' Jasper thought, making a face as the heavy doors banged shut behind him. He stepped deeper inside, glancing side to side at the matching statues of majestic-looking bird Pokemon, finding it to be oddly dark, but as his eyes adjusted to the lack of light, he found himself looking at a rather barren space. The ground was a bland, grey concrete with large pillars in the corners of the room, and further back, there were several wooden barricades blocking Jasper from going deeper inside the gym. About the only thing that stood out was a wooden plank embedded in the ground just ahead of him, and Jasper frowned, planting his hands on his hips.
The entire layout seemed quite odd to him, considering that this gym leader fellow - Falkner - was supposed to be a master of flying types and all, but as far as gym decor went, and he'd never claim to be an expert on the subject, he was feeling a tad let down. The extreme lack of other trainers in the gym was disappointing as well - perhaps he had the wrong place, after all? The bandanna-clad boy looked around again, spotting what appeared to be the gym's logo on the wall. "Heh, maybe they all flew the coop," the boy chuckled to himself, figuring that right now his best bet would be to leave, and come back later on the off-chance the gym would undergo a miraculous transformation in his absence.
And then, out of nowhere, a lofty voice called out to him, making Jasper jump and look around, dumbfounded. "Seriously, doesn't anybody ever look up?" As soon as the words reached his ears, Jasper felt a hot flush creep into his flesh and he sighed, certain he'd never felt more stupid in his entire seventeen years. Looking up; what a novel idea. It was a gym for birds, after all. Fighting off his embarrassment, the youth slowly tilted his head back, eyes once again finding the pillars on the sides of the room, and sure enough, high above him, was a platform, and he could just make out the facial features of a boy with reddish-brown hair staring down at him. "There you go! Progress!" he shouted, now hooting with laughter.
'Progress indeed,' thought Jasper somewhat furiously, as he still didn't quite see the proverbial light. After all, the gym trainers were all up there, apparently, and he was still down here. He wagered his options of sending out Ditto to turn into a monstrous dragon-thing to carry him up there, but he'd really rather not give away his Terrific Transformer just yet. He figured that there at least had to be a way to get up there, as it would be difficult to accept challengers if they didn't have fliers of their own. Jasper spotted the wooden platform again and put two and two together, still feeling like the village idiot as he walked up to it. 'Of course.' He took a deep breath and moved one foot onto it, tilting his head slightly as the faint, hollow echo made by his footstep. A bit tentatively, he put down his other foot and moved into the middle, already in the process of reconsidering his actions - or at least he was, until the platform began to rocket skyward. * * * * * * * * * * Hayley wasn't quite sure how much longer she stayed there, all comfy and warm and nestled in her sleeping bag, but at one point, the usual morning sounds of the forest fell silent, and the flaky-yet-observant young Watcher-wannabe's eyes opened wide. "Do you hear that?" she whispered to Cynder, pushing herself up to a semi-sitting position. The Charmander cracked one eye open and craned his neck for a few seconds, listening intently before he shook his head. "Exactly," the brunette murmured, the expression on her face sending a shiver of fear down the fire type's spine. Sure, his girl could be a total dingbat at times and sometimes he questioned her priorities, but her instincts were rarely wrong. Something was up, and she knew it, and the Charmander hopped to his feet, tail flame flaring up brightly. "Wake up, guys, we gotta go," the girl called out in a hushed whisper, though at this point, she wasn't sure it would help. Still pajama clad, the girl yanked up her sleeping bag and began to roll it up, causing a rather dazed and still half-asleep Rattata to tumble out of it, hitting the ground with a surprised squeak. "Sorry, Mya! I forgot you were in there."
In no time at all, the little campsite had been packed up, the remaining embers of the fire smothered with dirt at the paws and claws of Cynder, Tisyphone and Mya (Ivy, of course, would never get her vines dirty like that!). Over the course of the cleanup, the two young Caterpie had disappeared, and just out of sight, the Pikachu's ears only just now began to twitch (as apparently she slept as soundly as a full-bellied Snorlax). The mouse sat up and rubbed her eyes, also aware that something was amiss and she peeked through the undergrowth, surprised to see the brown-haired girl feverishly packing up her campsite. "...Pika?" the mouse murmured, sitting up a bit taller to get a better listen. Something was coming, something big. No, a lot of something. The mouse's ears perked straight up, and she gave a grim nod, now able to hear a quiet hum in the distance. Having lived in this forest all her life, the Pikachu didn't need to be told that a swarm of Beedrill were heading this way. She glanced back at Hayley, and then in the direction of the noise. She liked the human, sure, but she also liked life, and being skewered by a bunch of pissed-off Beedrill was not on her list of things to do today. With one final glance the mouse darted off into the thick underbrush.

A few solid hours of training flew by like it was nothing and Kilik could feel a pang in his stomach like nothing he'd ever felt before. He was sure that Chimchar and Drifloon were getting a little tired too. He let out a shrill whistle and the two Pokemon made their way towards him. Chimchar was panting heavily, but still had a look of determination on his face. "You two are doing awesome," he said, picking up his little simian and placing him on his shoulder. He reached up and took one of the balloon's tassels and held it as he started walking towards the Pokemon Center. They could both certainly go for a nice lunch, and Kilik was eagerly awaiting something in his stomach as well. He felt a little silly walking with the balloon like he was a little kid. He checked his watch; it was mid-afternoon. Maybe a few battles with actual trainers after lunch was in order. "I probably won't even get to Roark today," he said to nobody as the door to the Center slid open before him, "I may have to wait until tomorrow."
The boy walked into the cafeteria and let go of Drifloon, who slowly lowered himself down to an apple. Watching the balloon eat was somewhat of a marvel; he loosened his tassels and some air began to escape. The apple disappeared into him and he inflated himself to a bigger size before tying off his strings. And that was it. He was finished. Chimchar on the other hand grabbed a few bananas and grape bundles, running off to a table to scarf them down. "Slow down!" Kilik laughed as he set down his plate that was piled too high with sandwiches and slices of pizza, "You'll eat yourself sick." and in the most hypocritical fashion, he began shoving all of his food down his throat, barely taking time to wash it down with the bottle of water he had picked out.
Midchew, he checked his Poketch, still missing his PokeNav greatly. While the watch device was very trendy, the Nav seemed much more simple to use. "Okay, I can..." he held back a burp, "take a picture with this button and send it to numbers..." he glanced over at Chimchar, who was finishing up his last bit of food. "Hey!" Kilik laughed, taking his watch off and holding it up. Quickly, Chimchar flexed his muscles and put on the most determined look ever. It was lessened by the crumbs all over his face. With a click, a picture was taken. "Haha, yes. That's perfect." He clicked on Katie's name, making a mental note to get a picture to go with it later, and began typing a message:
"Working hard to get up to Genki's level! Hope everything is going swimmingly! =)"
While short, it took him quite a long time to write it. He didn't want to seem like he was going on and on with it. Kilik attached the picture he took of Chimchar and hovered his thumb over the send button. He paused a moment and then clicked send, put his watch back on then stood up. "Alright, ready to go get some more training done?"

Twilight was looking mighty happy with himself as he trotted back over to Kasiya's side. He was feeling a bit tired but overall content with his performance, though a part of him couldn't help but feel as though he should have done more. "Great job, Twilight!" Kasiya beamed, stooping down and wrapping her arms around the Umbreon. The Dark-type gave a small yelp of surprise but didn't fight it, even if his golden eyes were comically wide as his trainer planted several kisses to the blue ring on his forehead before recalling him into his Pokeball for a well-deserved rest. "Yeah, yeah, I'm going to fix that," the blonde retorted playfully, gleefully accepting her prize by swooning in an overly-dramatic fashion, at least until the two trainer's they'd just beaten came over for the usual after-battle pleasantries. Not sure of what she should say, Kasiya just smiled and tried to look humble, but her effort was more or less nullified by the fact that she was still nearly bouncing up and down on the balls of her feet.
"Impressive, yes, if not a little reckless," the girl at Tate's side commented, her arms folded neatly across her chest. The only noticeable difference between her and her twin was that, aside from obviously being a girl, was that her dark hair was longer. "I'm Liza," she chimed in after her brother's introduction, also studying the severely-damaged gym, though one could guess by her expression that she was more amused than upset.
"Ooh, yeah, sorry," Kasiya added quickly, genuinely apologetic even though her little Umbreon hadn't damaged anything but the opposing team's Pokemon.
"We were thinking of redecorating anyway," Liza chuckled, dismissing the destruction with a wave of her hand, her words and gestures masking the fact that she, like her brother, was carefully studying the two trainers. The blonde girl had a likable, energetic aura to her that reminded Liza of sunshine, and she couldn't help but feel perkier herself by just looking at her. The boy, on the other hand, was a completely different story. Outwardly he appeared cheerful and happy but it was easy for a psychic, even one just skimming the surface, to know that something else - something darker - lingered just beneath the surface. They do say opposites attract, Liza replied mentally. An odd couple, yes, but they are both quite powerful and capable trainers. I believe that we are in for quite a challenge. Excellent; I can't wait! Liza's stance shifted slightly, her gaze falling on the boy. "Don't worry. My brother and I tend to stay out of the thoughts of others. It's kinda rude to eavesdrop like that, don't you think? But yes, two Pokemon for everyone sounds just perfect." Obviously quite excited about the battle, the older twin (by mere minutes, sure, but it still counted!) quickly made her way over to the leader's side, already letting out her first Pokemon.
This is it, Kasiya thought, blissfully unaware of the psychic evaluation she and Mike had just received from the psychic twins. "Oh yeah, I'm Kasiya, and that's Mike," she said, a bit unsure of what two Pokemon she'd be using. Liza's first Pokemon was one she recognized - a Grumpig - and she frowned a bit, remembering how the last time she'd fought one, it had confused Hiro into almost taking a bite out of Seto. "Okay," she said, mostly to herself as she unhooked a sphere from her belt. "I think we can do this! Let's go, Rosemary!" While not her strongest Pokemon, the Meganium was still quite capable of holding her own and Kasiya was sure she'd do just fine. On the off-chance, however, that she did get into trouble, at least she had Casimir and Adamantine for backup. "Let's do this, partner," the blonde said, grinning up at Mike as the two boys got set to send out their Pokemon.
=-=-=-=-= Karrigan was still feeling utterly mortified at what Naga had done, though her embarrassment didn't show as she kept a cool head. The boy's comment was a bit rude and she blinked, her green eyes narrowing slightly. The Gastly seemed amused, at the very least, but it did nothing to help Karrigan and she continued to eyeball the dark-haired boy as he stood up. He was probably around her age, though there was something about him that made him seem like he was older. Well, maybe not older, but definitely different. Either way, Karrigan wasn't entirely sure she liked him already, though she didn't quite know why.
"A battle?" she repeated, looking over at the arena. She opened her mouth to respond, but battle seemed to be the magic word and soon the officials had more or less grabbed both her and the dark-haired boy and practically dragged them to the makeshift battlefield. Karrigan glanced across the deck at her new opponent/acquaintance, still feeling a bit bad about what Naga had done to his pants. Her guilt faded quickly as she felt dozens of pairs of eyes on her and she gave a soft, inaudible whimper. She was definitely not a fan of crowds. She looked to the official, nodding as they were told they could use up to two Pokemon. Her usual, shy little smile creased her lips as she took out a Pokeball. It'd be nice to wipe that smug smirk off that glasses-wearing-kid's face, after all, and she released her Vulpix with a swing of her arm. Amber appeared, sitting on her hindquarters, tails twitching. She quickly realized she was in a battle position, however, and hopped to her feet. The little fox's muzzle twisted into a snarl as she awaited the appearance of her opponent.
=-=-=-=-= It was a bit of a relief to see the golden Fearow finally fall, but Erika knew she hadn't yet earned a respite - more often than not, trainers saved their best Pokemon for last, and she tensed slightly. In front of her, Vileplume gave a slight cooing sound, also ready for the final round of this battle. Crenu seemed to weigh his options, and though ready, Erika did not rush him, though she did gaze at him with some concern at the blood-stained bandages around his hands and arms. He'd obviously been through something, but Erika knew it wasn't her place to ask - at least not yet. Perhaps she could get him to sit down for another cup of tea once they were finished the battle.
Crenu's third and final Pokemon was a bit of a surprise to Erika, as she could honestly say she'd never seen one before. The ghostly creature had a frigid aura, and Erika used her many years of experience to guess that it was of the Ghost and Ice-types (though it was quite obvious, to be fair). Almost immediately, the little ghost summoned a fierce, blustering hailstorm, and Erika glanced around to see the extent of the damage - the storm appeared to only be over the battlefield, which was a relief as she would be upset if her precious plants were harmed. The Hail also seemed to be helping the little ghost to blend in with her surroundings, which could be troublesome. "Vileplume, Toxic. Spread it out," the gym leader called. Vileplume nodded, craning her head a little before releasing a ball of sparkling, purple spores into the storm, causing the whole arena to glitter. The effect was overall very pretty, and though she wasn't a Coordinator in the slightest, even Erika knew that the move would have scored quite a few points in her favor.

Korra was feeling better as she saw the hail fall aroudn the field, she felt a lot safer with it around. She liked the way it hid her body, and she just liked the feel of it in general. So very cold and...deadly. Her confidence was starting to rise again, and she was ready for this fight! Crenu also enjoyed the look of things, he enjoyed the field being in his control for a change in this gym match. Not only would the hail help to hide Korra, but it would chip away at Vileplume's stamina constantly as the jagged ice chunks pelted its plant like body, wearing it down while they played a stalling game should they so choose it. He had hail with Korra and sand with Newgate, rain with Poliwhirl, and that was all he really cared to use for the time being. He wasn't the bright sunny type after all. As nice as the hail was though Crenu didn't take the time to admire it as Erika retaliated with a wide spread Toxic. Trying to wear Korra down with poison, not surprising in the least. They would have to look out for Stun Spores and Sleep Powders as well, luckily Korra was all about playing the distance game unlike Pet Shop. Playing keep away wasn't exactly going to be easy, but Crenu didn't waver. Spread out attacks were less potent, and Korra was fast. "Widen the gap, Icy Wind Korra. Send that vile poison back where it came from. Korra weaved left and right gracefully as she felt her core dropped down in temperature, exhailing an arctic frosty breath that blew over the field. The strong wind seemed littered with glitter as it sparkled, the reality of it was that it was laced with ice crystals that scattered outwards. The glimmering diamond dust mixing with the color of the toxic as it caused it to scatter, surely this would look amazing in a contest but right now all Crenu cared about was the damage the freezing wind would do to the Vileplume and increasing the speed advantage between the two. Crenu was well aware that Korra wasn't very strong yet, but good tactics could trump raw power, and that was what he ws about.

There was the roar of an Onx, and while similar it was definitely different from that of his Onix. Jason hated not being able to see, and wanted to have Atlas surface but he knew that Roark's Onix would just drag him back down into the earth again. No no, this was an underground fight now. "Try and hang in there buddy, feel it out!" Jason called as Roar gave out his command. Atlas didn't know where to turn to, the earth aroudn him was trembling but he hadn't learned how to read it yet. He was helpless here, he didn't know what to do. So he held strong and waited, suddenly feeling the dirt above him burt apart as the other Onix smashed into his body, even with the added bulk, which the other Onix had now as well, he felt the hit hard. Atlas roared out in pain from the hit, but he took it like a champ. Two bulky Onix hitting each other with non very effective moves like tackle, this match could go on forever! But Jason suddenly hatched a plan. "Ah, Atlas use Block! Don't let him get away anymore!" Atlas grunted as he whipped his body around, his body seeming to elongate ar it came around in a curcle. Callign out to the rest of the stones under ground they came together drawn by a mysterious power, encircling the pair or rock snakes to create as best a cage as they could manage. The key to this was making sure the more nimble Onix couldn't use his expirience under ground to keep making Atlas dizzy with it's movement.

It was clear from how the bird moved that it had been battling long before Sasha had walked in. Despite their somewhat ruffled look, they were very agile birds. She thought back to when she captured Roulette, who despite the massive disadvantage was able to avoid most of what Pierre threw at him. In a splash of toxins it was all over, and Erika's Vileplume scored a direct hit, felling the bird. The boy said nothing as he recalled his Pokemon, and only sighed in frustration. The features on his face sharpened to a point as he pondered his next move, and Sasha couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable at the boy's intensity. She was even more shaken at the sight of the freshly-soaked bandages he displayed after taking off his heavy coat. She couldn't help but wonder if he got those injuries doing something equally crazy as her friends.
She pushed those thought in the back of her head. It was rude to jump to conclusions about someone whom she had never met before. Very unlady-like. Bishop would surely chastise her. Speaking of at least one of them, Sasha had a difficult time identifying the Pokemon that the challenger released next. "Oh, Bishop." She took out her Pokedex, which identified it as a Frosslass. It was hauntingly beautiful. It's body looked like a long dress, and it had a pair of eerily human-like eyes that did little to hide a sense of malice and rage, like a lover scorned. And judging from its entry describing that it was rumored to freeze people and display them as trophies, it did little to dissuade her anxiety. The ghost's trainer ordered a Hail command, and it was then that Sasha was glad she had purchased this new outfit. Wrapping her scarf once more around her neck, she was ready when the ice began to fall. As the weather changed, so too did the Frosslass, who seemed to fade away in the storm.
Trying to use the storm to her advantage, Erika had Vileplume send a glob of poison into the wind, no doubt hoping it would be carried to the Frosslass. The boy seemed to sense this, and countered with an Icy Wind attack, blowing the poison out of the way. "Habile. Tres habile." This kid was smart, but Erika was no pushover. This was definitely going to be a tense matchup.
------
Mike gave a bow at his introduction on behalf of Kasiya. "It's a pleasure to challenge you, something I'm sure that my partner agrees with." He smiled at the girl. "I'm quite excited to see if I can earn my 7th badge from you two."
"Don't expect us to be pushovers just because we're kids." Tate replied, his playful smirk transparently revealing the defensive statement.
"Wouldn't dream of it." Mike said with a grin of his own. "Books and covers. You know the drill. I would ask the same of you."
"Indeed." the gym leader replied, raising a Pokeball of his own and moving over next to his sister. "Let us get started then, shall we?" The barely younger twin then released his Pokemon: A Claydoll, which took place next to Liza's Grumpig. Mike let out an audible 'hm' at his choice, feeling now would be a fun time to do something unexpected. He looked at Kasiya, flashing a mischievous and toothy grin.
"Ready set?" He snapped a Pokeball from his bag and raised it into the air. In a small puff of smoke and flames, the sphere was sent flying into the sky like a firework, opening in midair and revealing Napalm. The Magmortar landed on the ground and raised his arms, withdrawing his claws and proudly displaying his trademark cannons.
"An interesting choice." Tate said, raising an eyebrow. Fire Pokemon were seldom seen by the duo, as it was widely known that most of their Pokemon dual-typed as rock or ground.
"I wanna try something." he whispered to Kasiya. "See if you can buy me just one round. Napalm!" he commanded. Smokescreen!"
"Mag." The fire Pokemon took in a deep breath, then expelled a thick black haze from his cannons, obscuring a good deal of both of the challenger's Pokemon from view.
"Ancient Power, Claydoll!" Tate ordered. On command, the clay doll raised a cluster of rocks from the gym floor and threw them into the smoke. Both trainers waited for the telltale sound of an impact, but none was heard.
"He missed!" Mike cheered, unknowing to the fact that in the haze Napalm wore a wide-eyed look of concern, a rock stopped inches from his face from a quickly utilized Psychic attack.

Riza smiled after delivering her statement about Selena, hoping it was both informative yet vague enough to keep Ian from asking any questions about it. She wasn't sure she could explain how she'd just been standing around with a bunch of other trainers when suddenly they'd all bee blessed with random eggs, and she idly wondered how the others were doing with their new baby Pokemon. That Karrigan girl and her icy bear, Cubchoo, was it? Amy and her cute little Sandile. Even Kasiya and her Minccino. And of course, Crenu and his odd little psychic-type, Elgyem. Ian didn't seem to question it, instead accepting it as it was. "That's cool. Chimchar was a gift to me from my dad, who was originally from Sinnoh. We moved to Viridian when I was a little kid."
"Oh, that's neat," Riza commented, beckoning for her Snivy to follow as they'd started along through the cave. Selena was still looking quite sad as Riza hadn't said another word to her after the battle had ended. The little grass-type followed along quietly, occasionally looking up as the cries of distant Pokemon could be heard. "I'm from Blackthorn City in Johto, myself," the raven haired girl said, looking around the cave with distaste.
The two trainers discussed their homelands and their current destinations, with Ian being kind enough to give Riza some pointers for facing the gym leader in Pewter, who's name was apparently Brock. Riza couldn't help but smile at how appropriate the name was for the leader, and she hoped that by the time she was ready to face him, Selena would know at least one grass-type move. If not, she could always fall back on Faustus, and possibly even Eris with her fancy new Dig move. Riza couldn't help but feel that she was actually starting to get somewhere and she felt quite anxious for the next contest, as well, whenever it was. * * * * * Katie spent several solid hours training with all of her Pokemon, working on everything from speed to evasion and accuracy. She was probably most impressed with Genki and how agile his movements had become. The Monferno had been able to dodge pretty much everything the other Pokemon had thrown at him, with the only examples being the obvious moves that couldn't be avoided like Seraphim's Magical Leaf and Kord's Swift and Shock Wave. Everyone was exhausted by the time they all headed back inside, and after a quick round of healing, Katie didn't hesitate to turn in for the night. Solaceon's pokecenter was small though so she had to sleep on one of the little couches out in the foyer. Normally she would have been a bit annoyed by this but she was just too tired and she didn't fight it.
She awoke relatively early, mostly because of noise in the pokecenter but she figured it was about as good a time as any to get up. She had a long day ahead of her and as she made sure she and all her Pokemon had good breakfasts, she couldn't help but still feel nervous. Once that was done, she headed back outside and wandered around, finding the daycare center with little trouble again. Perhaps the best idea would be to just wing it, at least for now?

Kasiya's gaze had shifted to Liza once her slightly-younger twin had released his Pokemon, a Claydol. The two girl's glanced quickly to Mike as he finally made his choice, and Kasiya made a curious "Hmm?" upon seeing that he'd chosen Napalm. Rosemary appeared to be slightly nervous of her fiery teammate, putting a few extra feet between herself and the Magmortar. Kasiya nodded at Mike's request, brow furrowed ever so slightly, watching as the thick haze covered the battlefield. He wanted her to run interference? She could do that! "Rosemary, use Razor Leaf," she called out. "Make it nice and wide, too!" The Meganium gave a cry and her flowery mane shimmered, sending out a wide-spread volley of sharp leaves. It wasn't the most accurate of attacks but if anything, it would slow down their opponents for a turn or so.
"Grumpig, use Calm Mind," Liza said, glancing quickly at her brother as the Magmortar filled the arena with a thick, hazy smoke. She smirked a bit, and wondered what Mike was up to. Grumpig gave a snort and hopped up and down, the black pearls on its body glowing slightly as it increased its special attacking and defensive capabilities. That didn't do a thing against the slew of super-sharp leaves that had suddenly pierced the air, and the Pig-like Pokemon grunted in annoyance. Get ready to blast one of them with Shadow Ball when you get the chance, the psychic whispered to her Pokemon mentally, though why she was whispering with telepathy, even Liza didn't know.
=-=-=-=-= The professor said nothing and merely observed as Kressen scanned the Pokemon, all of which looked quite confused as to what was going on. He closed his eyes and listened to the device's robotic voice, giving a slight clap when it was finished. "All right, return, everyone," he said, recalling the four bewildered Pokemon into their respective Pokeballs before turning back to Kressen. He nodded as the well-mannered boy thanked him, and held out his hand for the redhead to shake.
"It's my pleasure, Kressen," Oak said reassuringly. His grin could not get any larger. "Be sure to give me a call if ever you find yourself in need of help." He gave a slight bow, assuming that Kressen was anxious to leave and give his PokeDex a workout, so he began to usher the tall youth out, bidding him farewell and best wishes as his journey could now truly begin.
=-=-=-=-= It was hard not to admire the clever countering of Vileplume's Toxic. The effect was really quite lovely and it was a terrible shame that they weren't on the contest stage. The spores settled onto Vileplume's body, but being of the Poison-type to begin with, they did nothing but make her sparkle a bit. The Icy Wind was biting, but the Froslass' inexperience was showing as Erika quickly realized it was not as potent as she initially expected. "Sweet Scent," she called, sensing another presence within the gym and she smiled, closing her eyes as Vileplume began to emit an enchanting, irresistible aroma that would hopefully draw the little ghost closer and make her an easier target.
Erika opened her eyes again and glanced quickly over the crowd, spotting a rather familiar head of pink hair. Is that who I think it is? the gym leader mused, her composure never wavering. It is! I wonder what brings the lovely Miss Sasha back to Celadon City. Her focus was still on the battle, and she studied the Froslass carefully, almost eager to see what Crenu's next move would be.

If ever there was a time to cue the theme music, now was most certainly it. Keegan generally didn't consider himself to be a risk-taker when it came to battles, but he wanted this to end now, and on his terms. He had the right Pokemon out on the field, he knew that for a fact, as the Swellow had never let him down before. "Let's do this," he murmured, exhaling sharply. "Artemis, climb!" He'd be relying purely on her speed and boosted attack, and he knew he would owe her some kind of treat or reward once this was all over, regardless of the outcome. The Swellow became a streak of blue as she shot back up into the rafters of the ceiling, moving so fast that it was difficult to track her. Blaziken fired bursts of flames into the air after her on Todd's command, but they all fell too short. The Blaze Pokemon's specialty was close-range combat, after all. "Now Aerial Ace, one more time!"
The redhead could no longer hear the murmur of the small-ish crowd, or even the voice of his own insecurities inside of his head. The only thing he was concerned with was his Swellow's positioning, and even he couldn't help but feel impressed as she barreled down like a comet, shrieking loudly as she cut down the distance between herself and her target. Somewhere over the rush of the blood pounding in his ears, Keegan heard his father call out for Blaziken to use the species' signature Blaze Kick, but there was no going back now. All or nothing, the younger Summers thought, eyes narrowing as the two Pokemon came together. Blaziken's leg swung around in a cloak of flames; Artemis' claws flashed as she delivered her unavoidable strike. Both Pokemon had moved so quickly that it had been almost impossible to see exactly what happened. Artemis came to land about a half dozen feet away from Blaziken, her blue feathers marred with blackened patches and scorch marks. She was breathing heavily, and her eyes were narrowed into deadly slits as she looked back over her shoulder at Blaziken.
The Blaze Pokemon was standing rigid after delivering her fearsome, fiery kick; the flames on her wrists slowly dwindling down until they had died out completely. Blaziken gave a bit of a smirk as she fell to her knees, and then flat onto her stomach. It was over.
Keegan didn't realize he'd been holding his breath until a lightheaded-ness came over him and he let it out slowly, the win slowly registering in his oxygen-deprived brain. What was he supposed to do now? He wasn't sure what the procedure was for celebrating a victory over one's own father. He didn't get much time to dwell on it, however, as he was suddenly being smothered by a mass of blue and red and more than slightly-singed feathers. ===== It took a while for Miharu to position herself correctly, as it was hard to do with a throbbing head and such a confined space, and she began kicking at the sides of the crate with all the strength she could muster. Being a relatively small-framed girl, it wasn't much, but after a few solid strikes she could feel the boards loosening. She stopped to take a small break, chest heaving from the efforts and she'd worked up a good sweat, which had caused the dried blood on her face to run. She was sure she looked rather frightful, but this was no time for vanity as she grit her teeth and slammed her foot against the crate one last time. She felt it give way and clatter to the floor, and the rush of fresh air that filled the stale-smelling crate was very nearly intoxicating.
The box seemed bigger now that she was in the process of crawling out of it, and as she looked around the dim light, she could see she was in the cargo hold of whatever ship it was she was on. But more importantly, where are we going? she thought, a flare of anxiety passing through her. She managed to stumble to her feet, but she quickly realized that had been a bad idea as she became very dizzy, and she was back on the ground again before she could even think about sitting down. The most logical thing to do would be to find someone to ask for help, but every time she lifted her head the room started to spin quite violently and she was forced to lie back again. First... resting, she thought, closing her eyes. I'll just close my eyes for a little bit, and... She'd drifted off into a dark and dreamless sleep before she could finish her thought, however. ===== "You have to admire their efficiency," Gastly remarked as he and his trainer were ushered over to the battling stage along with the redheaded girl and her Cubchoo.
"Is that what they're calling it now?" Damien grumbled sarcastically, carefully removing his glasses and giving them a quick polish before he put them back into place. Honestly, he hadn't expected the girl to accept his challenge, though 'accept' may have been a bit of a stretch as she hadn't exactly agreed to it in the first place. She wasn't running away, either, and was, in fact, looking somewhat confident. Damien couldn't help but gain a tiny bit of respect back for her, still watching as she sent out a reddish-coloured fox. He immediately recognized it to be a Vulpix. A fair number of them roamed around Mt Pyre so he was no stranger to them, but he knew better than to underestimate a Pokemon that was under the care of a trainer. He canted his head slightly, making quick eye contact with the clever Ghost-type that hovered at his side, and Gastly drifted out onto the arena, gazing down at the fox with a lofty stare.
The two trainers were given the command to start, and Gastly quickly glanced back at Damien. "Don't make me look bad out here."
"No worry, you'll probably do a fine job of that all by yourself," retorted Damien, slipping his right hand into his pocket. He was well aware of the fact that the gentlemanly thing to do would be to let the lady have the first move, but this was a Pokemon battle and not the 1950s. "Night Shade."
"With pleasure," Gastly replied, drifting upwards ever so slowly. His eyes began to glow a menacing red and he fired a pure-black beam, outlined in red, toward the little Vulpix.

Traveling through Mount Moon wasn't so bad when you had someone with you, especially when that someone was rather nice and sort of cute, too. Riza, having since recalled her Snivy into her poke ball for some rest, was happy to discuss her gym battles and contest experience with Ian, she learned that Ian had only just earned his Thunder Badge recently as well. He had three badges and she had two, but that would change shortly. The trip through the mountain was also easier because of the fact that Ian had gone through it a few times and knew exactly which way to go, and Riza knew it was unlikely she'd be able to get back through with such ease. It wouldn't be an issue, however, as the next time she had to go through Mount Moon she would just fly over it!
They turned down one final corridor and already Riza could see sweet, sweet sunlight pouring through, and she quickened her pace, sighing heavily once she'd set foot outside in the fresh air again. They'd spent quite a long time in there, however, and the sun was starting to go down. Luckily there was a pokecenter practically on the mountain's doorstep and the two trainers made their way inside. "That wasn't so bad now was it?" Ian asked, graciously allowing Riza to walk up to the counter first, even if they each really only had one Pokemon in need of healing.
"Not bad," Riza agreed, stifling a bit of a yawn. "Not going to be in a hurry to do it again, though," she admitted as she handed Selena over for treatment.
Ian laughed. "Hiking through mountains is great exercise."
"You can have it. I'll stick to not crawling through mountains."
"Fair enough," said Ian once their Pokemon were returned to them. "Should we stop here or keep going?"
Riza smirked at this as she was unaware that there had really even been a 'we'. "You can go on," she said, plunking down on one of the sofas. "I'm staying here. I won't keep you."
"Oh, okay then," Ian said, looking disappointed. "I guess I'll see you around then, all right?"
"I hope so," the raven haired girl smiled. She was a bit sorry to see him go and she hated that look in his, and realized she probably should have said something about a boyfriend so as not to get his hopes up. But then again, she wasn't really sure what to call her relationship with Crenu. He'd disappeared after the trade with Kasiya without so much as a goodbye or a phone call or even a single word, and she frowned. Perhaps she'd been used after all. "Wait," she called after Ian, standing up as he'd started to leave. "Let's just hang out here for a while. See what they have in the cafeteria, okay?"
The dark haired boy straightened up as he turned to look at Riza. "Okay," he agreed, his mood significantly better already. * * * * * 'At the very least it won't hurt to scope this place out,' Katie thought, having made up her mind as she walked. 'What do they call it in the movies? Oh yeah, casing the joint! I think....' The orange haired girl felt a sense of purpose as she walked and she checked her pocket to make sure the little flash drive that Mai had given her was still there. As she thought about it, that would probably be the easy part, getting the breeding data. Mai had said that all she had to do was get it hooked up to the computer and the device would do the rest. The egg, on the other hand, would be much trickier and that was what she was really here to find out.
The daycare was easy to get to and looked warm and inviting. There was a large fenced in area surrounding it and she could see all sorts of Pokemon running around in the yard. Her ruby eyes widened a bit as she recognized a few Buneary and she wondered how well Nell was getting along with her mother back at home. 'Probably overstuffed and spoiled rotten,' she thought, but it was all good. Her own Buneary was a bit of a brat, but she was a sweetheart deep down and she made a mental note to swap the rabbit back into her party at some point, though for who, she had no idea. She really didn't know how trainers with more than six Pokemon were able to part with any of them when teams were limited to just six.
She stopped outside of the daycare center, and after a few moments of thought, released Seraphim. The Roselia was quite the charmer and she might be able to help buy her trainer some extra time to snoop around. The sign on the front door said open so Katie took a deep breath and entered. A bell chimed above her head and she flinched a little. The interior was very quaint and cozy and it was hard not to feel welcome in here, which did little to ease Katie's guilt. She wrung her hands together and tried to calm herself down, trying to remind herself that she wasn't going to do anything just yet. Seeing her trainer's unease, Seraphim gave a quiet cry and raised her flowery hands, allowing for a soothing, sweet aroma to fill the room. Katie took a few deep breaths and sighed, smiling at the Roselia. "Thanks, Seraph, I owe you one."

The ghost pokemon weighed his options as he looked down at the crying kid in front of him. His single eye slid to the side, Kenny tried to look anywhere but at the crying kid, who was now drawing attention to them. Sinking through the ground a bit the Dusclops felt a pang of guilt course through him. The kid was crying and even though he was a ghost he wasn’t exactly heartless, ok so he was but that wasn’t the point! Pulling himself out of the ground he looked down at the youngster and awkwardly patted him on the head. The boy sniffled a bit and shivered at the specters cold touch, still the crying came to a stop though and for that Kenny was grateful. As the brat wiped his face off with his sleeve, Kenny found this somewhat nasty, the brat looked up and managed to sniffle/cry something unintelligible at Kenny. A low rumbling uncomfortable-sound came from deep in the ghost’s chest as the youngster took a deep hiccupping-breath and repeated himself. “MybrotherleftapokemonformeatthelakeandIcan’tgetitbecausetheywon’tletmein.”
What. Kenny thought to himself as his single eye looked down in confusion. The ghost was pretty sure he heard words that time, though he couldn’t tell what exactly they were. Not for the first time the specter wished his face had more of a way to express emotion on it, as he was sure a mighty frown would be upon it. Still the kid seemed smart and repeated himself slower this time. “My brother left me a pokemon for my pokemon journey at the lake for me. Those teenagers won’t let me in without a pokemon though.” The brat looked a lot younger as he blushed in embarrassment, even though he was explaining it to a ghost. The youth pointed over towards a wooded area where Kenny could see people milling around, it must be the entrance to the lake, Kenny mused.
That must be why he was trying to catch me. Kenny thought. A Dusclops would probably beat those teenagers pokemon easily. Well, there wasn’t much Kenny could really do about that. He might normally push his trainer to help the youngster, seeing as his trainer was not there and Kenny should really be finding him right about now. Giving the kid a shrug the ghost patted the child on the head again and turned away again, this time intent on actually leaving the kid.
“Ah wait!” The boy reached out and tried to grab onto Kenny but ended up falling through him. “Wait! If you help me get through that gate and to the pokemon my brother left me I will tell you where that girl is!”
Kenny paused at this, more out of confusion than anything else. Girl? Kenny mused as he thought on what the squirt was saying. It took him a moment but the ghost got it in the end. Dante! He had long hair in that picture, females usually have long hair don’t they? Everyone says he looks like a girl to. Of course that was much to his trainers now continued embarrassment. Kenny was pretty sure that when he dressed up like a girl, fussed with his hair so much and didn’t bother to train himself, the whole - looking like a girl thing - was his trainers fault. Still! No time to get distracted, this kid might know where his trainer was! Trying not to look like he was too eager Kenny stopped moving, and looked at the little guy hoping he didn’t see how worried for his trainer he actually was. The boy, upon seeing the Dusclops was looking back at him got excited again and smiled stumbling/running to the large ghosts side. “So you will help me? All I need to do is get into the lake. I will tell you where I saw her go after that. I promise.” Kenny just frowned and looked down at the eager eyes to the kid before nodding.

As Robin went through her pokedex entries for all the young pokemon gathered in the cave with her, the redhead’s eyes kept wondering over to her own pokemon. The Monferno was looking tired, though he was doing a good job of hiding it. It was no surprise though, now that Robin thought on it. Poor Ace had been hit with a lot of rocks back there. A sudden flashback of her battle with Roark raced through her mind, Ace against all those rock types caused her to feel a stab of guilt. She should have known better than to send him out against all that, she might not be the brightest girl in the world but sending the fire type against all those rock types. Well that was just plain stupid, and a bit cruel to the then Chimchar, who was still getting used to having a trainer. No wonder the Monferno hated her. After all that time he spent waiting for a trainer who never showed up, and when she did, well she had a team to herself already. Thinking back too all the times she had been such a horrible trainer to Ace she couldn’t believe he was still with her.
Well there was no reason she had to continue this tradition of being a horrible trainer. Putting her pokedex down she reached for her bag rooting around through all the junk inside in order to find whatever she was looking for. It took a moment but with a triumphant cry she pulled out her fresh storage container, Robin just hoped that this thing kept things as fresh as was advertised. Her worries were pushed aside though, when she opened it Robin was treated to the sight of crisp fresh berries, just as good as when she picked them after the Bug Catching Contest. Finding the one she wanted she pulled the sitrus berry out and with a smile she handed it over to Ace. The Monferno looked over at Robin in confusion as she offered it to him. The redhead just smiled a little wider and held it closer to him. “Come on, I saw you get hit with some of those rocks before. You were super brave to protect me and all that. Besides I need you in tip top shape if we are going to get out of here. Get some rest and eat up.” Robin wasn’t quite sure how long she held that fruit out; all she could do was hope that she hadn’t ruined everything with her inaction before all this. Ace slowly reached over though and took it from her; the two of them shared a long look and Robin’s smile turned less bright and a little sad. “I am so sorry for everything Ace. At least let me try to make things better.” She murmured before turning back and picking the pokedex back up.
Ace himself just watched Robin as she tried to put her head to thinking of something. The Monferno was actually a bit surprised she had even noticed something was wrong between them; the girl wasn’t exactly the brightest bulb in the box. Then again no one could ever accuse her of doing anything maliciously mean to anyone, even Ace knew that. Knowing that she hadn’t meant to hurt him for all those years was different then dealing with it emotionally. Sighing, he took a bite out of the berry feeling a bit of his health coming back to him. Ace watched as she started talking to the pokemon pointing to various moves in the pokedex, he mused over his past and his current relationship to his trainer. She was dumb as a bag of Geodude but that didn’t seem to stop her, she did have her odd moments of brilliance, even if she did rely on her pokemon to much to create them. Robin was showing more promise as a trainer now though, Ace had seen a lot of trainers go through the doors of Professor Rowans lab, and he liked to think he could spot one with potential by now. She had potential; she just had to work on bringing it out. Watching her weird attempt at teaching a Clefairy to sing was amusing to say the least, it still showed him that she was getting better, especially when the Clefairy’s face seemed to light up as it joined Robin in some sort of song, or whatever. Ace just smile as the melody took over him and he was lulled to sleep, maybe things would work out in the end, maybe he could forgive her.
~~~~~~~
The Onix growled as it was trapped into this room by the other younger Onix, this battle was getting annoying. They could barely hurt one another and were so bulked up that if it had been any other pokemon, they would have been down for the count already. Now he was trapped with the younger one, well Onix was going to make sure that this one knew just how bad of an idea that was. It seemed like his trainer thought the same way, a rocky grin spread on his face as he heard the call for a Rock Tomb. Slamming his tail on the ground the Onix attempted to break through this stupid cage and make half of it fall onto the other one. It would regret trapping him so close to the other.
'Oh, this is really... up there,' Jasper thought, frowning over the side of the platform as it creaked to a stop. Perhaps this place was worse than the wobbly Sprout Tower after all. He stepped forward, tentatively testing the upper floor before giving a small sigh of relief when he felt that it was, in fact, quite solid.
"Don't worry, it's perfectly safe up here," the redheaded boy from before said as he approached the apprehensive Jasper. "No one has ever fallen before. I'm Rod, by the way."
"Jasper, and it's not the fall that worries me," he chuckled nervously. "It's that sudden stop at the bottom." The other kid gave a sort of forced smile, causing an awkward silence to befall them. Jasper cleared his throat and adjusted his bandanna as he familiarized himself with they layout of the upper floor of the gym as he stepped past the boy, deciding he'd wasted enough time already. "Well, thanks for the help," he said, giving a nod. "I've got business with the gym leader, so uh, see ya later."
The bewildered expression on the Bird Keeper's face was priceless, and he raised his hand slightly as Jasper walked by him. "Wait, what?" he asked. This kid was obviously new to the whole gym-challenge thing and clearly no one had explained it to him. "Where do you think you're going?" he called after the bandanna-clad boy.
Jasper made a partial turn, wearing a somewhat confused expression himself. "The gym leader...? Weren't you listening?"
"Yes - no! I mean, I was, but no!" Rod shook his head fiercely, only adding to poor Jasper's confusion. "That's not how it works around here! You can't just waltz in all willy-nilly, acting like you own the place! If you wanna see Falkner, you have to beat me first!" Without waiting for Jasper to respond, he released a timid-looking Pidgey.
Waltzing? Willy-nilly? Jasper was at a loss for words as Rod's words sank in. Walking right up to Falkner and demanding a battle without expecting any sort of resistance from the other members of the gym did seem kind of ridiculous now that he thought about it, and he eyed the petite bird in front of him. "Okay then, beat you I will. It'll be a nice warm-up for Falkner," the green-clad youth agreed, reaching for Zorua's Pokeball. That belt had been a great idea, after all. * * * * * * * * * * It seemed that the quicker Hayley tried to cram her belongings into her backpack the more she failed at it and her sense of urgency grew stronger as the steady droning grew louder. 'But why? Why are they coming here?' the brunette fretted, finally managing to get the zipper on her pack closed before she hauled it onto her back - she'd reorganize it later when they weren't staring certain doom in the face. Still wearing her pajamas, she slipped her shoes onto her bare feet and started to run. Cynder, Mya and Ivy were quick enough but the Nidoran lacked the same agility, and Hayley doubled back and scooped her into her arms before starting to run again. She wanted to call them back into their Pokeballs, but she knew that the time between letting them out again could be costly when faced with an attacking Beedrill.
They had made great progress trekking through the forest with the help of the pair of Caterpie-guides, and she had a gut feeling that they weren't too far away from the exit. Hayley could already feel a bit of a cramp starting to build up in her legs but she ignored it as the terrifying hum continued to grow louder. Even if they could get out of the woods it wasn't a guarantee that the Beedrill would give up their chase right away, and Hayley realized it was likely that they'd have to make a stand and fight. The next time Hayley looked back over her shoulder she was treated to the frightful sight of black and yellow. It seemed they would have to take that stand sooner than she thought.
The Pikachu, meanwhile, had gone maybe ten steps or so before guilt had started to eat at her, and with a heavy sigh and a roll of her eyes she turned around, though she did not follow the human and her Pokemon directly. Her familiarity with this forest was again handy as she was able to duck and weave around the trees and fallen logs with ease. The girl had that grumpy fire lizard with her so that was a plus at least, as fire was often a good deterrent for those nasty Pokemon. She kept the group within earshot and when the gaps in the trees were wide enough, she could see them, too. Looking back she could also see the swarm closing in. This probably wasn't going to end too well.
No one was more surprised than Jasper to see the Mushroom Pokemon, Paras, appear on the platform, and the youth scratched his head. He'd been certain that he'd put his Pokeballs in the proper order so it was a mystery to him why Paras was out now. That is, until Paras turned and he saw bright blue eyes staring back at him that were positively alight with mischief. 'Zorua, you little sneak,' Jasper thought, keeping a stoic poker face despite his utter delight with the situation. He was admittedly a little embarrassed at his own inability to remember the specifics of his own Pokemon, be it calling Croconaw by her proper species' name or recalling Zorua's Illusion ability.
Rod, unfortunately, was nowhere near as good at controlling his emotions as Jasper, and having been training strictly with flying types was quickly aware of his advantage (or so he thought, at least). He was seriously starting to doubt this Jasper kid, and with good reason - not bothering to look up in a gym that specialized in flying types, not realizing he had to earn his right to battle with Falkner and finally, sending out a dual bug and grass type, which sported a double weakness to the gym's trademark birds. "This is gonna be cake," the boy grinned.
"I wouldn't be so sure about that," Jasper retorted simply, more than a little amused at Rod's cockiness. "Go ahead and make the first move if you want." In front of him, Zorua gave a little yip, but it went unnoticed by the smug Bird Keeper.
"I'll make the first move all right, and it'll be the last one, too! Pidgey, blow that thing away with one shot - Gust!" The Pidgey's bravado had seemed to increase along with its trainer's, and it gave a sharp trill as its wings cut through the air, whipping up a fierce gale of wind that it blasted right at what it thought was Paras.
Jasper didn't have to utter a word as Zorua nimbly darted off to the side, avoiding the Gust and grinning all the while. Jasper also had to admit that Zorua managed to make everything she imitated look creepy, including the normally-skittish Paras. The abnormally-agile display from the Paras had most certainly not gone unnoticed by Rod, and Jasper was sure he saw his eye twitching slightly in response. The Bird Keeper regained his composure and pointed at the disguised Zorua. "Tackle it!"
"Scratch," Jasper countered, as it was the only move the two Pokemon had in common that would not give away the fox's true identity. The bird practically launched itself forward, screeching as it neared Zorua. The fox danced out of the way once more, but this time held out her claws in retaliation, leaving a rather painful-looking gash along the bird's side. Jasper nodded in approval; so far, so good. * * * * * * * * * * Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the luck spectrum, Hayley was beginning to wonder if she'd ever catch a break, and it just so happened at that time she would - her foot became entangled in the branches of a broken tree limb and she fell rather awkwardly to the ground. She was unhurt, thankfully, but she was definitely afraid, still clutching a frightened Tisyphone to her chest as the winged menaces drew nearer and nearer. "Get ready guys, maybe we can fight them off," the brunette said, attempting to sound brave. It was a shame, however, that her voice betrayed her confidence. Cynder immediately took up position in front of his trainer, eyes narrowed in defiance as the Beedrill closed in. It appeared that there wasn't as many as it sounded like: more like a little squadron than an actual swarm. Even still, half a dozen and then some Beedrill were still plenty more terrifying than just one. The answer to Hayley's earlier question became apparent as well - why had they sought her out specifically? Well, the rather smug-looking and familiar Weedle perched upon the back of one of the attacking Beedrill gave it away - it seemed as though the little guy had essentially ran home and told his mommy on them.
The first pair of Beedrill made their move, speeding in for a pair of double strikes, but Cynder wasn't about to let that happen. The Charmander puffed out his chest, building up a mouthful of Embers that he then spewed out at them, spreading them out wide enough to keep the enemy Pokemon at bay. Mya, ever brave as she was, opted to join her teammate then, standing proudly at the Charmander's side and receiving a nod of respect in return. Tisyphone squirmed out of her trainer's arms to join Cynder and Mya on the defensive, as she recalled from her battle yesterday that the Beedrill's venomous attacks would do little against her. That left only Ivy, but the Snivy didn't appear to want to have anything to do with the problem as their buzzing alone was enough to send shivers down her spine. Even still, the grass type knew she couldn't just sit on the sidelines so she positioned herself next to Hayley, ready to fend off any of the Beedrill that got through the first three Pokemon.
The battle was more-or-less six on three now, as two of the Beedrill had hung back, one of them being the parent of the crybaby Weedle. Hayley knew from experience that Cynder was her best chance and she quickly gave him the okay to Ember the ever-loving crap out of the enemy should he get the chance. Mya and Tisyphone, lacking useful ranged attacks, would have to rely on close-quarters combat, though she was only really worried about the Rattata. Hayley still didn't know it, but about five feet away from her, the Pikachu sat, watching and waiting. This stupid girl had really gotten herself into a pickle, but it served her right for not trying to catch her when she had the chance! Well, maybe not quite, but it was the principle of the thing.
