Mine consisted of Kindergarten through grades 1-6. Then they switched it to Kindergarten and grades 1-5...

In England it's reception and years 1-6, and it's called Primary school.

But I went to first, middle and high schools (most of England has the two-tier system, i.e. primary and secondary, but up here (North) we have the three-tier system).
First school is reception and years 1-4.

Well in the city I live in this is the break down of my school years.
Went to Pre-school.
Switched schools and went to kindergarten through 5th grade.
Switched to new school and did 6-8.
Switched to new school and did 9 & 10.
Switched to new school and did 11 & 12.
Now I have to make money for college so I don't have to worry about loans and asking my mom or calling up my dad for money.
And that'll probably be different city same state.

Mikusagi
What's elementary school? >_<

Elementary school is the American equivalent of a primary school.

Mine was kindergarten to fourth grade.

You live in America, correct?

Ah, don't even remind me about college. I'm going to be a Senior in high school this coming year, meaning I'm going to have to start making all the preparations!

The stress of exams and applications and funds is going to drive me into the ground. gonk

@Iko: This is rather off-topic, but I just wanted to say that your artwork is really very nice. :3

Wait, you didn't know what a lesbian was in fourth grade? eek You don't have any magazines for kids? gonk I don't mean comics >_>
When I was like... in 2nd grade or so, I wondered what would happen if a woman fell in love with another woman. I guessed that someone would say she was sick and get her into a hospital. That made me angry with the world. Yes, I was angry because of my own conclusion sweatdrop
But then, in maybe 3rd grade, a magazine told me about homo-, hetero- and bisexuality. I was like "Oh, so it has names? Okay."
And then I was like in 4th grade when a famous singer called Eva married a woman named Efva (same pronunciation)
and the headlines went "EVA AND EFVA GETTING MARRIED" and I asked my mum "Isn't it confusing to marry someone with the same name as yourself?"
Yay for me and not thing homosexuality was weird.

I don't think I knew what a lesbian was in year 4 either...
I didn't really think about it. I've never been against it, or thought it was weird. I just didn't think about it at all when I was younger. I don't think I liked magazines. -.-;

College over here refers to years 12 and 13. You either go to Sixth Form (at your High school) or college.
Of course, just to confuse it more, Universities are often broken up into different colleges. Especially the older ones.

I have no money for uni. XD I'll probably die of starvation or pneumonia.

Thank you Sadakai.

In response to some earlier posts, I agree with JK that females are more open to admitting asexuality. Guys seem like they are more worried about a lack of sex drive.

Correct, Mikusagi, in my fourth year, I didn't know what a lesbian was.

Part of the reasoning behind that might be because America is far less open-minded in regards to homosexuality and bisexuality than most other countries. There's probably a lot of Americans who are opposed to it and wouldn't want their children exposed to it.

Come to think of it, there's only one or two openly gay people at my school. And there's one bisexual.

I can't tell who's pretending to be gay, who's pretending not to be gay, and who actually is gay at my school...

I never let anyone label me with a sexuality until recently. They used to ask me if I was a lesbian, and I'd say maybe, then they'd ask if I was straight and I'd answer maybe, then they'd ask if I was bi and I'd say...you guessed it, maybe. XD It used to irritate them to no end.

There's still a lot of prejudice about it in England, and 'gay' is a commonly used insult. Usually in good humour though...

I use "hetero" or "straight" as an insult.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 25, 2007 6:13 pm

Yea, people tend to say something like "that is so gay" or "that is so jewish" if something tends to suck or be bad.

Uhmm...

@Miku
I knew what lesbian and all of that other stuff was by second or third grade. Like I said. I was messed up as a child. All of the information was from me doing random researches, basically wandering around and just grabbing anything that had letters on it for me to read.

@Sadakai
Yea, I live in America.... And like no one knows about the state I live in.
Even those south of us, even people IN this state rarely heard of this city.
And yea, I am going to take a year or two off for school and I am trying to get a job and keep my blue hair so I can pay for college myself.

@Iko
I totally forgot what I was gonna say.

@Xumbra
That and they may be brought up learning that if they don't have a sex drive and for girls at that then they are different and guys being different get teased a lot.

Surprise to see that from you. I thought that Americans usually say "make out".
