"Holy crap" you know those moments when you're watching a movie and you just want to jump out of your seat? Well that's exactly what Aaron was feeling right now. He so wanted to just be in a movie theater and just be the person to just jump, not the person in the movie, no reality, and have to deal with this. There was really no way he was going to get out of this alive was he? Surely these things had him pegged just like they did for poor puffin. His heart had dropped an inch when he saw her just fling through the air. If they were going to kill a cute little dog, they would surely kill him. No hope, yet, as they started to click, an idea clicked into his head.

Most movies, people sometimes made it out alive, they just had to think of a great way to put others in danger, that was the only way to get him out of danger. So with that thought, he decided the best thing to do was just to run into the street, screaming and hollering, drawing a crowd around, and take off running even more. So with that said, he looked for whatever area he could dart from. If they surrounded him too much he would try to force his way through them, which he would probably have to stop for a moment longer and think about exactly what he would do. If there was room enough for him to take off, he'd happily run off in that direction, hoping to reach a populated street rather quickly.

..."Daniel, Eli, we need to get away." She said in a low voice, hoping against all odds that this creature didn't understand her words.

The creatures arm swiped through nothingness, its prey had eluded it.

Daniel sighed with relief but Eli tightened his grip on the pipe. It was just too ugly to be left alive. Walking forward, Eli sized up the creature.

"Daniel, Eli, we need to get away." He heard Lily say in a low voice.

"Hold on..." Eli replied, almost absentmindedly. His eyes were intensely focused upon his target. Raising his arm he was moments from swinging when from behind the creature came a deep and far-off bellowing. It shook the walls slightly then all became still. Then a rushing sound came. Eli strained to hear, even the creature was alerted to the sound and tilted its head. Steadily it grew louder and louder. Daniel leaned forward, towards the way they had come.

"What is-"

"Shh!" Eli silenced Daniel. He always has to speak Eli thought.

The creature slithered around and let out a piercing screech. From inside the growing rushing sound there came a response. Eli, struck with realization, could think of only one thing: He rushed over and grabbed two more pipes and shouted for them to follow him.

"Look" Daniel said, pointing to a swarm of beasts rushing away from them. The creature that had pursued them slid off and joined the clicking and slithering flood that was rolling away from them, heading in the direction the deep noise had come from moments before. Eli stood, pipes in hand and ready to run, feeling foolish again. He recovered by walking over and offering the pipes to Daniel and Lily.

"Y'know...In case we see any more."

"What do you think that noise was? Why did they go away? And what are we going to do now?" The questions fumbled out of Daniel's mouth, his mind moving too fast for his tongue to keep up.

Aaron was surrounded. It was a dead-end in the corner where the strange person stood. The way towards the street was blocked by the two creatures. Determined as he was to leave quickly, looking around the alley could afford him the means to escape. To his right there was a ladder that led up the back of the building as is typically the case with buildings and alleys. To his left there was a covered dumpster that, if atop the lid, could be used to vault over the wooden fence. Behind him lay an open door to the back of the building the strange person had come out of. To his forward, and probably the most daunting, lie the two creatures. For the moment they seemed content to click back and forth but it was entirely uncertain whether Puffin's fate was as a result of hostility or of an absentminded gesture.

Lily took the pipe from Eli greatfully, glad to have something more powerful than her keys in her hands. She shoved her keys back in her pocket and then turned to look down the tunnel. She felt uneasy about what had just happened. Not just the creature, but the sound as well. Something was seriously wrong, and curiousity told her to follow. However, for once in her life, she pushed aside her desire to follow, and turned to look down the way they had been heading. "I don't know what that sound was, or why those creatures were following it. The only thing I know is that we need to get out of here now, before they decide to head back." She threw the pipe into the air about a foot, catching it once more. She then looked over her shoulder at the two guys. "I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to stick around to see if they will come back. As great a weapon as this pipe might be, I don't think it would hold them all back." She then turned her head. "I'm finding a way out." She said plainly, then began to walk down the tunnel once more. There had been determination in her voice at her final statement. Perhaps if they found a manhole cover, there would be a ladder leading up to the surface. She just wanted to be up on the surface, out in the open air, and away from these strange creatures. It all creeped her out, and was a little much for her to take in. Now that silence surrounded her, she had time to think about everything that had happened. She hadn't had time to think before then, as she hadn't stopped since that first attack from the creatures.

"I agree, let's get out of here." Daniel said, bounding after Lily. Eli tailed. In sharp contrast to the chaos of before, the streets above and the tunnel below now seemed quiet. And though he knew it would be dumb to stay any longer as he followed Lily, Daniel yearned to know what in the world was happening and felt that the answers lay down here...somewhere. Feet behind him, Eli was deep in thought as well. So weird, it was to him, that movies would portray characters in bizzare and perilous circumstances and he would feel so gripped by it but to be actually experiencing it himself he found it brought a different feeling. Detachment. It was as though it was wasn't really happening.

About a block or so by Eli's reckoning they came to a ladder that led upward to a manhole cover. Eli stared upward, taking in what air would seep down through the holes. Daniel looked around tentatively after a while.

"Well, who wants to go first?" He looked to Lily and laughed "Ladies first? Ha ha"

Lily rolled her eyes as she looked first to Daniel, then to Eli. "Yeah, alright." Her tone showed quite clearly the expression that likely could not be seen in the darkness. It was one more of exasperation, or perhaps the expression one might expect to see on someone who didn't wish to do something, but did it for the sake of saving time. She turned around, staring up at the manhole cover above her. For a few seconds she stood in silence, gathering the courage she would need. She gripped the pipe in her right hand tightly, then began to climb the ladder, the pipe making small clanging noises against the rungs of the ladder.

She reached the top and stopped, still alittle unsure. She knew the answers to this mystery lay beneath the surface, but was it worth the risk to discover them? Curiousity begged her to stay, to turn around and go back, to figure out what lay beneath the surface. However, her fear and anxiety gripped her tighter, and she finally took a breath and began to force open the cover. Her bright eyes were fixed above her, though the pipe was useless in her hand as she had to put a great deal of weight into forcing the manhole cover off. Everything seemed quiet, a little too quiet after what had happened to her. Her gaze was fixed outward, looking only to see what dangers may lay in wait once the cover was removed.

Above, on the surface, things were decidedly less chaotic than before. The bus remained toppled but any signs of the strange creatures or any kind of panic had vanished. This part of town wasn't often visited anyway, most just used its streets to get to the heart of the city, but it held an unusually heavy sense of isolation. Beside the overturned bus was a police vehicle and its officer standing nearby, questioning a small group of people. Once all three were above ground, it was time to decide where to go.

"Well, I don't know about you two but I'm kind of hungry." Daniel said, looking wantingly past the bus wreckage towards downtown. "Hey, do you have a cell phone, Lily?"

Lily looked about her for a moment, taking in the scene before her eyes. For a long time she remained silent, as though she had not heard Daniel, a distant look in her eyes. She then shook her head lightly, blonde tresses falling into her face, and looked over at Daniel. Her eyes seemed to show confusion, then they registered what he had said and she shook her head once more, in answer to his question. "No, I always thought they were a waste of my money." She smiled half-heartedly, then was distracted by the rumbling in her stomach. "I guess food sounds good."

Her sapphire gaze moved over the street as she tried to remember what was close by that they could grab a bite to eat, then realization struck and her eyes went wide in horror. Her jaw dropped in a silent scream moments before she covered her face, crouching down as she burried her hands in her lap. A muffling sound could be heard as she started to shake her head. Both Eli and Daniel, if they listened closely, would be able to make out the words, "No, no, no, no, no. Frank is going to kill me!" She continued this for a few more minutes, keeping her face burried as she crouched on the ground.

Everything seemed to move in slow motion... no wait nothing moved at all, he was s, there tuck to the ground, pondering what he should do. There really was no time to waste, yet he did not want to haphazardly just charge in any which direction. For now his directions were divided into two. At least he narrowed the running forward through the creatures out, and running in the area that the creature came from out. It was just a matter of which was safer, running against the dumpster? Or climbing up a ladder.

First off which could he do more effortlessly? Probably the dumpster, he could easily just run, jump on the dumpster and hop off with a skip and a jump, no problem about that, right? Of course, if he could do it effortlessly, these creatures probably could as well. Always go with the harder choice, and you get rewarded in the end, as long as you stay alive to receive the reward.

It seemed like the ladder was his best bet, with scythe arms those creatures would have a hard time climbing up after him. Even though it'd take him a bit to make it completely safe, it was better than just waiting around for them to attack him, like they did to poor puffin. So with that he turned to his right. The ladder was his safety, he would use it, and so with all of his effort and might, he took off and jumped toward the ladder, if he grasp a hold of it, he would take off as fast as he could up it. If he failed to grasp it, he would try again and again till he was killed. There was nothing that was going to keep him from getting away from these creatures, nothing except death itself.

Eli watched the group of people talking to the police officer only half-listening to Daniel and Lily. In a small, deep corner of his mind he thought something wasn't quite right. He had expected quite a bit more than an overturned bus and group of stragglers to meet them when they returned to the surface. The contrast of situations made him feel uneasy, as though he lay vulnerable. Hunger began to grasp at his attention. Subconsciously distracting himself he pulled his eyes away from them and towards Lily who was now crouched and sounded distressed. Daniel leaned down.

"What's the matter?" Daniel asked.

As the ladder was built for human use, it was reasonably accessible to a person of average means. Though in times of stress, action and aim don't always meet. Aaron's hands slipped from the bars but he only need jump a few inches to try once more. The two creatures at the end of the alley shifted at the sudden movement and the strange person fumbled weakly away in almost panicked body language. Both of the beasts began to slither forward. Upon quick inspection Aaron would be able to make out gashes in both of their skins as they drew closer. They appeared injured but would Aaron's haste distract him from seeing? And even if he did notice, would that even change his mind about fleeing?

Lily looked up from her hands, though they hovered about her face, only inches away. Her sapphire gaze was fixed on Daniel, her mouth slightly open, her lids still wide with her distress. "What's the matter?!" She asked in a rather frustrated fashion. "I'm only super late for work because of those damn creatures. I'm only likely to get fired from the only job I have, my only source of income." She burried her head once more, her body trembling slightly. She knew it was childish to be worrying about something so small after what had happened, but it was simply what she did. She focused on something smaller, and poured all of her stress, frustration and anxiety into it. She knew it wasn't good, but that was just the way she was. Finally, her legs gave out and she fell back on her butt, her legs bent before her and her head still burried in her hands, which rested on her knees.

A few tears fell to the ground as the past time, from when she had gotten off the bus until now, overwhelmed her. It was all too much for this simple girl to bear, and she felt so weak as she sat there in tears. Her body shook slightly, and the soft sounds of her crying crept out. She folded her arms over her knees and burried her face further, so that Eli and Daniel would not see her in this weak state. She worked so hard to be the tough girl in everything she did, hardening herself so that her tough life wouldn't hurt so much. But now, with everything that had happened, she simply couldn't keep up that act. At least none of the people she knew were anywhere around to see her, so her reputation of being a tough girl would be well intact. Even with all of her anxiety about her job, she couldn't bring herself to stand and face what lay in wait when she reached that place.

"Eek!" She screamed and holllared as a spider crawled across the ground, what the crap was it doing there? It seemed like it was crawling itself up to her stero system! "NO!" Ashley just bought that, there was no way she was going to have it unclean by an eight legged freak! "Get off!" She through her high heel at it, of course she was in such a frantic state, she didn't notice she let it way too earlier, and it flung behind her.

"blah blah blah" The radio continued to rant to her, it was some weird station, and she didn't even want to listen to it, and now she was forced to listen in while the spider protected it from ever being tunned to her favorite radio station... why was it on a different one anyway? Just to torment her probably, it must of been the gross spider! She still had one more shoe left, perhaps, just perhaps she might be able to fling at it in the right spot to avoid hitting her stero, and freeing it up so she could listen to something other than a news report.

With great determination, she lowered herself down a step by taking off her last high heel, and took as much aim as she could before she tossed it with a good amount of force, well as much as she could muster... which was not saying too much. Question was, was it enough? Would it obliterate the evil mocking spider? Or would the conspiracy behind the spider keep on growing?! Gah, she hoped not!

The sudden appearance of her newfound nemesis stole Zeyla’s attention and Old Farley’s silence likely went unnoticed. He had crouched down beside a manhole cover but paused dramatically. Apparently something was supposed to be coming out of it.

Jamison looked around as he felt his shirt being tugged at. He saw Zeyla behind himself and shot her a quizzical look. Tracing her line of sight he saw a group of roller-skaters and put two and two together. He looked back to say something to Zeyla but a sudden and massive explosion in the ground derailed his thoughts.

Old Farley grasped the manhole cover and stared ominously at the crowd. Abruptly he removed his hand as though he were recoiling from touching something very hot. Seconds later the ground erupted and a surge of cement and earth was hurtled upwards into the sky. Some of those closest to Old Farley were flung into the air like limp dolls. The sound was deafening as glass from nearby buildings shattered and panic flooded the streets.

Jamison felt the earth crack underneath himself and he was pulled into the crevice. It felt like an earthquake, he thought to himself, but so quick and powerful? His shoulder slammed into a jagged piece of cement and he grabbed for shoulder. The moment he did so, he regretted it. It had put him off balance and he tipped over and tumbled uncontrollably down an ever widening gap. Chunks of debris rolled by him and knocked into him. A large chunk hit him in the head and he began to lose consciousness as he slammed hard into an earthy ground. The quake appeared to have stopped but he now lay deep below street level. Lifting his head as much as his battered neck would allow, he saw Zeyla recovering from a similar fall. She bore a gash on her left cheek but she appeared to have fallen down a separate and less dangerous descent. He gave her a frail smile before consciousness finally slipped from him and the sounds of sirens and wailing melted into each other in a horrific chorus.

Zeyla reached upwards and pulled herself back onto flat ground. Her left cheek started to sting so she pressed her hand to her face only to feel the cool liquid oozing out. She pulled her hand away to reveal the blood that she had just wiped away. More concerned about Jamison's health than her own she looked around for him. She spotted him and started to yell his name to see if he would wakeup.

Zeyla reached down to grab Jamison's arm and used all of her strength to pull her out of the crevice that had just opened in the earth. She dragged him farther out and onto the flat ground. Zeyla put her hand to Jamison's cheek hopefully to warm his cold skin. She felt his pulse to make sure he was still alive, and he was. She put her head onto his chest and hummed a song until help had arrived. Jamison was going to be alright. She could feel it in her gut, and her gut was always right.

Well now, missing once was definitely not the greatest of things, but Aaron was persistent, a hop and a jump and there he was. His arm holding tightly on the ladder, it was a good thing he got on there so fast, but there was still fear in him. Fear protects you from many things, making you heart race, your body respond quicker, you mind overloaded with thoughts from every sense in your body. Well, the first reaction of Aaron was, get the heck up the ladder as fast as he could, and that could so easily be accomplished, but yet how did he know he would be safe?

So what could he do to make sure they didn't climb up here? Nothing probably, but he wanted to test to see how safe it would be to pursue going up the ladder, because if they did, he'd have a better chance staying on the ground fighting them or fleeing the other way. Well what way could he get to determine they couldn't climb up? Get them pissed off. "Hey you stupid creeps, eat this!" With one hand held on the rung, and the other digging in his pocket, he grabbed onto a dog bone and threw it at the nearest one. Was it dead on? Eh like he cared, all he wanted to do was just to get their attention, which sounded bad enough.

Even though he did look at them, and could see the gashes across their flesh. However, he was not familiar with their species, and did not know the difference between a wounded one or a non wounded one.
