No influence for me whatsoever. I'm unitarian at point, I guess, so regardless of my sexuality (I'm straight, btw) no one there will care.

Freddy Mercury of Queen was a Farsi, from Iran (originally).
his sexuality was not questioned by them, and i hear they have a history of being open minded in such matters.
has anyone else heard anything about the Farsi?

I have heard of the Farsi, and I knew Freddy Mercury was... but I've never studied them I will add that to my list.
@topic: I have liked girls my entire life, but I actually fell in love with guy(long story). But No It never affected my religion. I'm a shaman so it doesn't matter. I've been taught homosexuality is natures way of population control.

I wish I could tell that to my church sweatdrop I think it's funny...good outlook too. That should get some people ranting off about overpopulation who also rant against gays to sit there and scratch their heads for a bit!

Henbane I really don't see how my sexuality effects what and who I chose to worship or believe in. Im not deeply into any one religion. But I am straight razz LOL, I believe the openness to admit sexuality can have a great deal to do with ones religion and the tolerance within the structure, however your religion itself has nothing to do with whom you are drawn to at a heart level...Your soul doesn't see the physical form it just feels and loves without prejudice HI DOOMY razz

Aliikai_Kudo I am Agnostic, and my being bi does affect what religion I will choose finally greatly. I may never find a religion that fits me. I know that I will never be any form of Christianity because I have far too many views on "God" for that too work... sweatdrop I do know that whatever religion I finally find will have to be tolerant of homosexuality. 3nodding (A little late but if I may offer the choice of an extremely tolerant religion, it is pagan if you must know)

I don't think that sexuality really plays much at all into my religion. I use "priest" as a generic term referring to a priest of any gender, and gender doesn't have nearly as much to do with ritual practice as purity concerns and appropriate actions do- and all of us have to observe those. Kemetic deities also tend to be the reverse of many other Pagan religions as far as deity genders go- Geb, the Earth is male; Nwt, the Sky is female; Iah, Khnsw, and Djhwty as the moon are male; and there are both male and female deities associated with the sun, as with fertility. In fact, there are usually an assortment of either gender associated with any concept, when you get down to it. Also, female deities aren't restricted to gentle fecundity figures- They are frequently quite fierce, though there are many gentle ones as well. The same goes for male figures. And there are some deities Who are hermaphroditic, and some which are sometimes refered to as being hermaphrodites, and sometimes as being a specific gender. And then there are the syncretic deities which might associate a male deity and a female deity with one another in a very close alliance of identity. So basically, gender may be a matter of fact- an aspect of identity- but it doesn't necessarily go any further than that.
It seems to me that many Pagan religions share the same view- we're not having sex with the gods, after all, so why would they care?^_^' Not to mention that many gods are homosexual, as well, so if it's OK for them then they couldn't really hold it against us.
Now, some people have interpretted one of the Declarations of Purity in an anti-gay manner, but others who have done their own translations say that it's more of a proscription against child prostitution/***** than homosexuality. And still, the Declarations of Purity were custom tailored by the people for whom they were written- reflections of their own ideas of righteousness, and magical insurance against an unfavorable judgement. They were not holy writ. And there is at least one tomb which has been found which honors a homosexual couple- if something like this were morally wrong, it would certainly not have been carved into someone's tomb, as that would have endangered their prospects in the afterlife.
I'm bi, btw- but currently not looking for a partner.
