Gaius nodded sheepishly. He knew he should've told Marshall, he'd been planning to, he just hadn't had the opportunity yet and it hadn't seemed like a big deal.
"Cakes sounds good," he admitted, pulling himself up to his feet with the help of a chair. It looked like Tommy and Victor were still around at least, and Newt too... That was still enough for a decent chorus of "Happy Birthday"!
"Just tell me where it's stored and I'll bring it out, okay?"

Tommy grinned broadly at the thought. It was odd, wondering what he'd like for his birthday considering the circumstances. Had it been that long arleady? Almost a year. "I dunno..." he said slowly, "Never really thought about it...maybe either get a pullup bar installed in the entertainment room, or get a tv for my duplex," he said with a shrug.
Ah...it seemed like the Pegasus and the penguin were doing a bit better. He cautiously bat-walked his way over to them. "You guy's doin' alright?"

"Huh? Oh yeah...We're fine." Marshall said to Tommy as he got to his large feet, wiping off imaginary spots on his shorts.
"Um...Its on the end of the table." Marshall said, pointing down at the other end of the Mexican buffet, "You guys really don't have to sing y'know..."

When Marshall's emotional outburst peaked, Newt flinched back silently, careful to not say a word. His own birthday had passed but in light of everything going on, he had found it inconsiquential. Beside, his past birthdays in the lab had generally consisted of a red-markered star on his calender followed by a black markered X as he marked off the day. He'd never been big on celebrating, but then again he had never had anyone to celebrate it with. All in all, he didn't see why it was that big a deal. Then again, with all the horror of the place they lived now, those "normal" things were difficult to let go of he supposed.
He murmured a quiet goodbye as Nita headed out, staying shyly to the side even as Gaius awoke. The horse man seemed far better at calming the penguin than the frog was capable- he had trouble enough with his froggish impulses to flee from sudden movements. He cleared his throat with a little croak, inching closer to his dissapointed friend, "If... if... if y-you wan-want us to, I m-mean... it's a par-par-party... isn't it? S-singing, I mean... It's what y-you do." His snout twisted into a crooked, scarred smile.

Victor ate his Burrito while listening to everyone else, nodding to Tommy as he thought of a couple things he could do for his friend's future birthday when he heard someone talk about singing the traditional happy birthday song for Marshall.
"Ccan Trry to Ssssingg, but ccan't ssssay I'd do verry well at it"

"I'm okay, it was nothing, really," Gaius assured Tommy as he made his way towards the end of the table, placing a guiding hand on Marshall's shoulder as he went.
Maneuvering the penguin around to the cake, he waved for the others to join in and grinned. "Now what kind of birthday party would this be without a birthday song? Come on guys, let's give him one to remember!"
"I don't want to ruin all of it," he added in a lower tone, speaking to Marshall. Then, brightening up again, he began the first few notes of the classic song.
"Happy Birthday to you..."

"...You didn't ruin any thing, ya moron..." Marshall found himself murmuring as the group sang to him. It felt silly, even for the juvenile acting penguin man, having people sang to him. However, it just felt...right considering how his birthday had gone so far.
...Happy birthday dear Marshall...Happy birthday to you.

Gaius smirked, a bit of drying salsa cracking as his face wrinkled. "Hey, don't want my little problem to interrupt anything. Now, who wants a piece of cake?" he asked, picking up the cutting knife carefully in his grip. Finer dexterous tasks may have been beyond him, but he could still use a knife! Gaius worked on cutting out pieces of cake for the party-goers, saving one for himself.

Victor didn't much sing the words as he mumbled them as loudly he dared, he didn't want to be slurring and butchering the simple birthday song with his speech problems. Victor looked up from his spot to where Gaius welded the knife and offered to cut some cake.
"I would likke sssssome Ggaiussss, but jussssst a ssssmall sssslicce, pleassse" Victor crawled a bit closer, waiting for some cake
