Again, Ko'tahl didn't share her laugh. Although, it was rather amazing that she could joke and laugh while she was still in danger of dying, albeit twisted humor. "There are plenty of ways to make money, especially in a small town such as that one. People always need something. My father and I sell fish, for example. Everybody needs food, and fish is bountiful. All it takes is some patience, a little bit of skill, and a lot of practice." He fell silent for a moment or two as he walked. "Of course, none of that matters now. We have to focus on what's really important. I don't know what the Emperor-King wants with me, but I need to find out. I don't know how I can help, but if there's any way I can be of some use, I need to take advantage of it and do the right thing. That's what my mother always taught us."

"Funny. You're mother taught you that, where as survival taught me that. Of course I can see where there is plenty of ways to make money, but when people aren't highering and especially when they judge you by your outward appearence you tend to become hardened towards others and you find yourself doing anything to get by. Guess thats where we are different Ko'Tahl. You were born with a familythat loves you and an automatic apprenticeship with your father. Where as I had to learn the hard way, excepting what I can get and hoping that each waking day will not be my last."

*Liana smiled and chuckled a little.*

"I don't blame anyone and I don't think I would have it any other way. Granted I am now indebted to you and the general, but I will repay you both even if it costs me my life. As far as I'm concerned I don't have a whole lot to live for, but I like living...if that makes any sense. I guess I like the adventure of the unknown." She chuckled again and moved her hair out of her face.

Near sundown, after the group had been travelling for the greater part of the day, Tamale stopped near an outcropping of rocks. "Alright. This looks good. We'll set up camp here for the night. Ko'tahl, if you could grab us some lumber, we'll start a fire. I've got some things to talk about before we rest."

The bulky general umpacted a few things from his kit, a few scraps of meat, a rough cooking pan, and a small vial of a fine, reddish powder. He shook it slightly, nodding to himself. "Just enough to get home. I'll have to remember to fill up.

*Liana got down from Ko'tahl shoulder ((some how!)) and sat on the ground. She felt cold, but at the same time hot and persporated(sp?).*

"Is there anything you want me to do?" She asked, looking sickly.

Tamale shook his head, handing the parched girl his flask of water. "Rest. You'll need it. In the morning, I'll contact my Patron again and hopefully push the posion back a bit more."

Ko'tahl nodded after Liana got off his back. Setting down his own supplies, he went to the woods and began to gather dead, dried branches and logs for burning.

The wood was sick; that was the only was to describe it. It was pale, dry and brittle. But it was the only wood around.

*Liana sighed with relief and took the flask. She layed back against a pale gnarled tree that had seen better days.*

"Who is your Patron? Is that like a contact or something?" She muttered a little dalerious(sp?) and took a drink from the flask.

"Thanks for the water."

Ko'tahl stripped some stringy bark off a tree, and using it as twine, bundled a large amount of the sickly wood. He heaved the stack onto his back and carried it to the camp.

Tamale nodded. "Something like that. I'm the commander of Kor'lokai's Chosen, one of the most elite forces in Orithan's army. We're Adepts. That means that we've got a little bit of Shamanic magic on our side. Shaman can normally make a contract with any spirit they please to get things done. But Adepts can only make contracts with our Patrons. It makes it a little bit more difficult to get things done, but the Patron is usually more willing than most spirits are."

Tamale then noticed Ko'tahl arrive with the wood. "Ah, good. Set the kindling down and I'll get us some food going soon enough."

Ko'tahl dropped the mound of firewood down in front of Tamale and sat down heavily. His wounds were starting to ache again as night fell. It had been a long day and he really needed the rest. He smiled weakly at Liana as he waited patiently for a warm meal. "Forgive me for slowing us down. The day has been long and trying."

Tamale dumped a pinch of the red powder into his palm and clapped his other hand down on it loudly. Immediately, the space between his hands began to glow red. He opened his palm and blew the glowing powder onto the tinder, where it began to burn brightly and strongly.

After setting up the fire, Tamale cut a few pieces of meat from a chunk in his pack and dumped them into the pan, adding a bit of water, potatoes, and a sprinkling of the same red powder.

Curiosity taking hold over his exhaustion, Ko'tahl asked. "That's quite amazing. What is that red powder?"
PostPosted: Mon Feb 19, 2007 8:40 pm

Tamale grinned. "Kor's Breath. Used as a cooking ingredient, fire-starter, and siege weapon." After stirring the mixture a bit, he poked a stick through a wad of meat and a lump of potato and gave it to Ko'tahl. "Soldier's rations. Not the best of food, but it's warm and it'll keep you alive." He then repeated the process for himself and Liana.

Ko'tahl nodded. "It's quite an amazing substance. Where did you get it?" He took the food with a polite "Thank you," and began eating.
