I think the special character with the best background and idea in general is Cypher the fallen one. I think its good because theres so little of it, if that makes sense.

Hay do you know if you can make you're own Special character or can you just make you're own HQ choice.

Well really the rules for warhammer go as far as you and your opponent want them to. So if you discuss it with your friends and decide a fair point value there is no reason you can't use a special character. Though tournament wise I doubt you would be aloud.

Their susposed to be you, which in some cases, can be quite special, depending on the person.

@ Argus:

That was quite rude and sarcastic. I've missed being online each night heart

But you can make you're own HQ choice, like make it look complety different but still keep its normal profile you can do that right?.

there are 3 ways to go:
1 - use codex based special character, rename it to fit your fluff
e.g. - Shana , the Emperors Flame Haze - counts as St.Celestine
2 - use regular character build with eq based on fluff you use
e.g. - Robin, WH inquisitor - boltpistol with psycannon bolts, scourging psychic power, psy-occulum ^^
3. go full medieval and create your own special character with unique stats, rules etc. - note that you need opponents permission to play it, and opponent can create his own special character to counter yours... usually this leads to "arms race" ending with all stats 10, 2+ invulnerable save monsters with wacky special rules...

As long as the equipment is represented, you could model whatever and use special character stats and rules. As long as its wysiwig, then who cares.

I suppose if you make the points cost fair, don't make him a God, and as said before, stick to wysiwyg, then you're good.

Failing that, model a new version of a character, give him the same stats, but with a different name.

Most characters are indeed 'special'.
As in they cost too much for their points cost.

Eldrad is just stupid. He's like 10 extra point from a tooled out farseer and he gets +1T, 3 psychich powers a turn, i mean hes way underpriced.

Kharne from the previous Chaos Codex was useless. He didn't even have an invulnerable save. Any stray krak, melta or las shots and he would have gone down without a fight. And it's almost impossible to get him to the other side of the table as he'll either start running at one of your own units or you can manipulate him so he starts running to the other side of the table by hiding anything he can see.
He' pretty useless

About Kharn last edition:

1) If your opponnent had you run Kharn into your lines, he was a cheater. Blood Rage takes you toward the closest ENEMY model, not closest model.

2) He was still faster then than he is now.

3) Krak missiles wouldn't be a problem for Kharn, if you kept him 6" from a Berk unit at all times (With the Champion being the closest model to Kharn).

I personally really enjoy using the Emperor's Champ. The Slayer of Champions kicks the "boss fighting" into full gear, where you can challenge the enemy's leaders n' independents.

It's awesome fun when you can rush your marines (I play BT marines) into close combat and have your emperor's champ cut down the leader in a 1 on 1 =D
