Mars Focks Rain @Hombre: Some people think that Hinder IS talented, though. Just because you don't think they are doesn't mean they aren't, just as much as it doesn't mean that they are. So honestly, as long as they have the mechanics of the music down, it's all a matter of taste. Some people think the tooth fairy is real, that the world is flat and that the universe revolves around the Earth. This does not mean that we must make way for them simply because they subscribe to a belief that, quite frankly, is wrong. As stated, Hinder uses basic chords, counts and vocals. I could match the vocals, my friend Dustin could hit the guitar, Spencer on the drums, and Hobbit on the bass. And we're not even a band, just a bunch of guys that ******** around with instruments. Give us a song like Bark at the Moon, or Crossroads and there's a good chance it will take us years to match that level of technical difficulty, if we actually can. Hinder is not talented, they're just popular. Jump, Van Halen

This does not mean that we must make way for them simply because they subscribe to a belief that, quite frankly, is wrong. Actually, truth be told, in America's relativistic and politically correct culture, we do. Thus why in school, and in most workplaces, you can't just walk up to someone who doesn't believe the Holocaust happened and say 'You're stupid for believing the Holocaust didn't happen, just ask the Jews.' Well, you CAN, but you'll probably suffer some repercussion. Just a little tidbit there, no need to argue.

To be politically incorrect, ******** political correctness. If somebody is wrong, they're wrong. There is absolutely no sense in coddling someone that's being foolish and denying reality. mad What it Takes, Aerosmith

Just because you think people are foolish because they think that Hinder is talented doesn't mean they are. You aren't the highest authority on everything cool, because it's a matter of OPINION AND TASTE. Okay. That's it. I'm not debating anymore cause this isn't getting anywhere.

Just because you think people are foolish because they think that Hinder is talented doesn't mean they are. You aren't the highest authority on everything cool, because it's a matter of OPINION AND TASTE. I didn't say that nobody was allowed to like Hinder. I said, that it would be a mis-step to quote them for talent, because in the grand scheme of things, they are not. Someone is not just talented because one thinks they are. Talent is not a matter of opinion and taste. There are actual benchmarks for talent, for example: impact, influence, creativity, versatility, originality, technical skill and lasting popularity, vocal Control, Power, Range, Articulation, Phrasing, use of Dynamics. Whether you like them or not is a matter of opinion. Saying if they're talented or not is a matter of fact. Scattered, Green Day There is a particular melody in this song that reminds me of Sister Golden Hair Surprise by America.

Hombre: If you notice, you started this argument over me LIKING Hinder, and kept harassing me about it, so the argument is long done with. wink Please drop it and leave it alone now and we can get back to the original purpose of this thread.

Mars Focks Rain Everyone has different tastes. So some people may find something else talented and something else untalented.. @Hombre: Some people think that Hinder IS talented, though. Just because you don't think they are doesn't mean they aren't, just as much as it doesn't mean that they are. So honestly, as long as they have the mechanics of the music down, it's all a matter of taste. As I said, they have to look at it from a neutral standpoint. Which is not always easy to do. Sometimes it means admitting that a band you like isn't all that good.
Like for me, I like Superfun Yeah Yeah Rocketship. It's this guy with a weird voice who sings these very strange songs, and he does all of his shows by himself, no band. I like him. His only real talents are being able to multi-task, and writing some good lyrics. He's not a great singer, and his keyboarding is mediocre.
My opinion of him is slightly biased because I am a fan, but from more of a neutral way of looking at it, I can point out his flaws, and deduce his talent level.

If you notice, I never told you not to like Hinder. I made a joke about Hinder, indicating my personal disdain for them, not telling you not to like them. You took offense to it and felt the need to continue that course of discussion. Don't try to pawn this off on me. And, for the record, I've been following the original purpose of this thread all along. This thread was made for you to get 1000 replies, and also for us to post what we're listening to. And, have I been adding to your reply count? Yep. Have I been posting what I've been listening to? Yep. Every post, in fact. It would be you, however, that has been too swayed by the discussion and thusly neglected to follow the purpose of the thread by not posting what you're listening too. Several times, in fact. surprised Paradise, Styx

B: This is my goddamn thread, I can do whatever the hell I want. And yes, you have added to the reply count. But, because of the rather pointless argument, I've been tempted to leave the guild altogether. Which would not have helped matters. Thus why I called Rain back, because without her, and with me going on hiatus, the guild would probably be more dead than it has been any time before.

Oh, and if you need me to, I will explain why this really got under my skin, and why I was ready to leave the guild over it, but I'd rather not if it's unnecessary.

1. Saying that it's your thread and you can do whatever you want is a cheap way to avoid following a standard that you set. If you expect to keep a thread on topic, then stay on topic yourself.
2. I personally would like to know why it bothered you so much, there's nothing that I get a kick out of more than somebody coming up with reasons for why they overreacted.
3. I am currently lisening to a combination of my Web Design II teacher and Flash, by Queen.
