Each of their cds kind of has their own genre. But in general, I'd put them in Pop/Punk, I think. :3

I must agree, each of their albums is a bit diffrent, but, overall, I'd say they were Pop Rock, or Adult Alternative.

Everyone thinks everyone's emo. They don't even know what it means. i just hear people going "oh. i hate green day. they turned emo!" and i'm just like "if they're so emo. then exactly what is it that makes them that way?" i'm just curious to know these reasons. i dislike the fact that people think emo is just another screamo genre gonk domokun

I say that Green day is... Well, alternative punk. Not alternative/punk, but alternative punk. Its like when alternative rock first came out. It was not exactly rock, but it was at the same time.
But, if I didn't say they were lternative punk, I would call them pop/punk for their overall Green Day-ness.

I like calling stuff Rock. Because it's just so vast. There are so many sub-geners, you'e almost never wrong. And I really hate categorizing stuff.

Its odd because they've changed a lot from when they first started...Dookie was pop/punk in a good way, insomniac was more hard punk rock, warning and american idiot in my opinion are more pop/rock than punk. and kerplunk and 1,039 smoothed out slappy hours are pure punk. so eh- they fall into many categories. sweatdrop
