Letting him take back the whip, he watched his hands and how his fingers held the grip carefully, his mind trying to work around it so it could be put to practical use. He had been told that Dusk had a very.. difficult childhood and it wasn't something to speak to the Pygin General about, so he wouldn't. Only admire that such a man came from such a harsh upbringing. "I suppose since he's the Watcher or.. whatever.. he thinks a lot about duty and what has to be done instead of other stuff. He keeps saying he has more to learn so maybe he hasn't been able to fully relax yet..." He had watched several Zyukori work on making their weapons and there was such a peace and calmness about them that he couldn't help feeling the same way when he was there. So he knew Dusk's words were right. Besides, they weren't the metal breed for no reason. "Hai hai!" This was it.. he would somehow, in some way, prove to Dusk that he was worthy of such an honor.. and to be his disciple.
Looking immensely pleased with how the whip looked in action, he worked on getting his hands in the grip once it was given to him, purposely trying it a few times just to get a good feel for it. "Never hold of too firmly... but what if someone took hold of the other end? It's best to let it go?" His brows drew downward in a bit of bafflement as he tried to figure it out.

"Your Shouhin has a lot on his plate since he has to learn everything from scratch. For the rest of us, we're only doing what we've been doing practically since birth, what we were trained to do. So yes, Iruka has a lot of duties, but time can always be made for other activities. That's another thing for you to remember. Never let one thing dominate you totally." His smile was full of approval as he watched him grip the whip carefully and try it out.
"Normally, I'd say let go of the whip if someone grabs hold if it, even if you're stronger. First, it gives you the advantage of surprise because your opponent won't expect it. Second, you can always get or use another weapon if you remember what I said about anything and everything being able to be used as a weapon. However, with this kind of whip, anyone grabbing the end gets the dagger, which is razor-sharp. Anyone grabbing the regular length of the whip gets the barbs. So if they grab hold, pull back as hard as possible and rip their hands up." His grin was slightly evil and feral. Many had tried to do that to him before and learned the mistake the hard way.

"Well that makes a lot of sense..." His nose wrinkled a bit because he did know that Akiya was 'new' when it came to this race and all that, so he did have a lot to learn. And if he wsa right about how old he was, Dusk was about forty thousand years old... almost at his limit at how long he could be alive... that was a bad thing! Bad bad! His mind whirled as he tried to figure out what he could do to make sure Dusk stayed around for a good long while. Didn't Shouhin say that growth stones were needed for such things? But.. then again, the Duskling family was blessed by the Goddess of Fire, Kree... Kree was a huge Dusk fangirl, from what Akiya muttered under his breath once.. so she wouldn't let her idol die, right? Right? "Never let one thing dominate you.. got it."
Seeing his smile at how he was working the grip made something flicker inside of him, something that he had felt before but not like this. Pride. After he explained what to do should someone take hold of his whip, another evil grin curled the corners or his mouth. "So wicked..." Feeling he had the grip down a least a little bit, he lifted his arm a bit and attempted a flick. It was awesome to watch how the whip unfurled and curled like that. So nifty.

He knew he was getting close to his end but he wasn't worried. He had lived a very full and productive life, surrounded by those he loved and he wouldn't regret a thing. His only worry was how his family would take it....Shaking his head, he focused on his student's progress, watching him flick the whip tentatively. "Good, now stronger, sharper. Flick it lightly, with your wrist, but keep your wrist flexible enough to control it. You want the whip to go where you want it to. You're doing very welll...."

He still thought it was amazing how long these beings could live.. and be able to control how they grow as they can. But they still looked like they were still eighteen or so! Wondering why he was shaking his head but leaving it alone, he nodded a bit before he tried a bit harder. Working on flicking his wrist flexibly was rather difficult but the more he tried, the more he began to feel at ease with it all. His ears shifted at the sounds of the cracks of the whip and he nodded in understanding. "This is hard.. but it's rather fun!"

Halfway through the practice, he made Jiro switch hands, smiling softly. "You've done very well so far, but don't forget to not neglect your off hand. You need to be balanced and not have one hand you favor. If anything were to happen to injure your weapon hand, you'd be left defenseless and that would be a sorry situation." He admired Jiro's enthusiasm and eagerness, watching how his eyes gleamed with every accurate strike he made or how his forehead furrowed when he missed.

When Dusk paused him in order to have him switch hands, he did so without hesitation, but it didn't mean he was exactly sure of this. But he was rather happy that he wasn't failing his sensei, though he was sure he was making a lot of mistakes somewhere. But if he made very obvious onces, Dusk would point him in the right direction, which helped him. But his words made a lot of sense and with an "ossu!" he got to practicing with his left hand. These were less coordinated than before, but he knew he would have to work harder. Biting on his bottom lip in concentration, he made a faint hiss as his screw up cause the tip of the knife to cut into his other arm slightly. But instead of losing his concentration, he balled his right hand into a firm fist to slow down the flow of blood and kept going.
It wasn't like he hadn't injured himself enough with his sword practice to not know how to deal with something minor like this.

He made the occasional remark or comment when he saw Jiro make a mistake that could lead to him forming bad habits or hurting himself, but they were few for he preferred for the most to have his students learn from their own mistakes. All in all, he was rather satisfied with Jiro's progress for it was rare to have one as young as him be so proficient so early on. However, when he injured himself, he stopped him immediately. "That's enough for today." Before he could protest, he put up one hand to calm him. "First, it's been over an hour and you're getting tired. At this rate, only more mistakes will be made and you cutting yourself into ribbons will do nothing for you, nor teach you anything useful. Secondly, a good warrior knows to get any injuries taken care of as soon as possible. Being able to go beyond the pain and fight with injuries is necessary but not for practice at this stage. There is no need to damage the machine that is your body, as much a weapon or tool as what you have in your hand." He held his hand out for the whip, no look of censure or scorn in his eyes at all.

He was thankful for his advice. It was a lot better having a teacher than learning from books or on his own. Shouhin had been right. It wasn't that he had doubted his wisdom, he was just a really stubborn mutt and wanted to at least attempt it on his own. Dusk was smart to stop him from complaining when he had.. Jiro was known for being way too stubborn for his own good and he would have protested that he could continue for some time yet. But a sensei was a person to be respected and though he pouted, he handed over the weapon as he was told, nodding his head. "Hai, Dusk-sensei..."
Had it truly been over an hour since he had been given to him? It didn't feel like it and he wanted to do so much more! His whole body was filled with a new sense of excitement and eagerness. "Even though I hurt myself.. I still find this whip really fun to learn... and I'm sure that it has so many uses, like using the bladed tip in order to get the fruit down from the tree. It's such a beautiful weapon.. they all are..."

He reached out and carefully ruffled his hair, giving him a rare smile. Dusk wasn't known to give them out that often. "You've surprised me with your progress, Jiro, and that's with me already giving you some high expectations from what I'd already seen. But all things will come with time. You might think you can go for hours more but I promise you, when you get home and rest, you'll realize how sore you really are. Make sure to take a long hot bath and let your Yuhin rub some salve into your shoulders and wrist to let them heal so they won't get stiff and ache even more. Youneed to be in top shape for your next lesson with me." He quickly coiled the whip up and added it back to the bench, folding up the cloth to bundle the weapons securely.
"All weapons can be equally beautiful and grotesque at the same time. It just depends on what you do with them and how you do it. You will get a chance at all of them, I swear it. But I think it's time for some lunch, eh?"

It wasn't often that Jiro allowed people to do something like that with his hair. Normally it pissed him off like nothing else, but this time he beamed up at him, his eyes showing how incredibly happy he was. And he was happy. Damn happy. Dusk's words were very kind and he felt so much more.. sure about himself, though he knew better than to let it all go to his head. That would only cause him to get an ego and that was the last thing he needed, to be honest. Even he knew the dangers of such a thing. "Ossu!" He made a mental note to do everything Dusk had listed that he should to... his hand was already feeling a bit sore from holding the whip and he wiggled his fingers a bit before he applied some pressure to the cut on his arm to slow the blood flow even further.
His stomach grumbled rather loudly at the mention of food, but he didn't look rather embarassed about it. He couldn't help loving food and he nodded. "Yushi... some food would be rather welcomed at this point, heh."

Seeing him wiggle his hand and press on his cut, he ushered him into the house, slinging the folded up cloth over his shoulder carefully. "Pearl should be home and he can heal your cut for you. I don't need Sah wigging on me." He grinned boyishly, remembering the last time Jiro's Yuhin had lit into him after taking Zy on a hike.....up a three-thousand mile high mountain with a completely sheer surface that Zy had slid down...face-first.
"And if we're lucky, we'll have some of his cake too. Do you like sweets at all?" He felt good about taking Jiro under his wing for he felt that Jiro would learn from him and take everything to heart. He really did need to speak to Iruka about making him something just for him.

For him to be ushered so quickly, his wings actually fluttered in surprise before he found himself back in the house and he looked around again. When he mentioned Sah wigging, he gave a pained grimace. "Yeah... Yuhin all bent out of shape is not a fun Yuhin to be around..." He had seen Sah really get angry only a few times and thankfully not at him but it was still enough for him to long to be very.. very careful about pissing off his Yuhin. Though he didn't know anything about Shouhin's rock climbing experience. If he had, he would have laughed his a** off.
"Mmmm, caku." A kittenish grin showed this time as he bounced about, hearing Elder Mahon's voice as he came in. "Seems at least one of your mates is home, Master Dusk..."

Entry Thirty-Two: More.. books? Jiro never seems to have enough of them...It had been awhile since Jiro had been in the library, probably because he was still floating on the happy high he had gotten from his first training session, but something made him go to one of the many libraries that were in the house this day. What the urge was, he couldn't say, but he was glad he did it. Just being around the tall towers of books and scrolls made him feel so much better. Like that odd tingling sensation had finally went away and he was more at peace with himself. After entering and pushing the huge double door shut behind him, he took a few moments, just breathing in all the familiar smells of the room before he went over to his usual chair. Since he knew his parents hadn't cleaned in there for awhile, the same stack of books he had placed who knew how long ago would still be there. And it was. So he hopped into a plush cushion and snuggled into its softness with a happy purr. Yay! Time to read! Shifting so that he was resting against the padded armrest, he looked down to grab the first book on top when he noticed a bulkily wrapped... package? He supposed it was a package, for what else could it possibly be? But it was addressed to him, which was what caught his interest in the first place. Tiny fingers wiggled and stretched a bit before finally grasping the package and a glee filled cry, he settled it into his lap. "Something else for me, huh? This Frenztaa thing is really cool!" Though his fingers ached to rip it open, he wondered if he should. Would it really be okay to open this now, even if it was a season for tons of giftgiving? Would he get in trouble for it? That would really suck... he didn't want to know what movie they'd use for punishment this time. Actually, if he could avoid seeing any, that would be a dream come true! To open.... Oooorrrrr.... Not to open...? Gah! Choices! Gnawing on his bottom lip for a long while, he finally decided to hell with it and worked on taking off the wrapping paper. Ooh more books! And just for him! It wasn't everyday that he was able to get books that were just his and didn't belong to his other brothers or his parents. At the bottom was a note, saying that the gift was from Uncle. Oho? Well then... he'd have to remember to grab something for him to thank him. For now, he had a bunch of new things to read.
