Sanzo is my favorite.
Not because I relate to him. I don't think I could be that a**l and cold if the world was depending on it. But there is something about him and his cold facad that allures me so.
Second favorite? Hazel. Now him I can relate to. He's cocky, arrogant (like Sanzo) and he's driven.
Sanzo went because he was told to. Hazel went because he felt he had to.

They're all great characters in their own way ^^
Sanzo for his attitude and initiative of doing things, Goku for his wide-eyed innocence and cheerfulness, Gojyo for his playfulness and protecting of the weak (he would be such a good father or brother ^^), Hakkai for his practicality, honesty, politeness and good nature.
And of course, Kougaiji, Kamisama and Nii as well as others have their strong points too :3

GOJYO, DAMMIT! Why? Well, not to downplay the other backstories, but I think Gojyo has one of the most tragic histories, and look how he's dealing! I mean, if my mommy tried to kill me, I think I'd be a mass of goo all the time. Now, not to say he didn't get mentally scarred, but I think he deals with his mother complex pretty well.
He's also a sweety pie. Look at him. Of the boys, he lets his heart show more than the others. Sanzo's an ice queen and Hakkai's an enigma. Gojyo lets you know just what he's thinking, and he's nice. If Sanzo'd found Hakkai on the ground with his guts hanging out, Hakkai'd be history.
Plus, he's damn sexy.

My favorite is Hakkai all the way. Ever since I discovered Saiyuki back in 2003, I liked Hakkai. When I started reading the manga online earlier this year, I liked Hakkai. When I watched the series, I liked Hakkai. Whenever I get 3 of my friends plus me and compare them to the Saiyuki characters, I'm always Hakkai. Whenever me and my classmates IM each other, Heavens Savior's nickname for Gojyo is "Cockroach guy". OK...I told her that name, but she's the one who adopted it, I think. OK...so that wasn't related. But if Hakkai were here, I would probably be one of the first crazed fangirls to hug him. xd
