The mage blinked in surprise at the miscast spell's reaction, then laughed. "Interesting. I can't say I've ever seen that happen before...." He held one hand out over the table, about two inches over where the mark on his table. "How did you do that?" Kumoru asked, still grinning as he glanced sidelong at Chris.

Still holding onto her wrist, she shrugged. "I don't know... I think it shocked my wrist or something, my whole hand is numb." She said quietly, looking to the dragon mark. "What's that mean?"

The mage bent down over his coffee table to peer at the mark for a moment, then gave his lantern a narrow-eyed glance. "Maybe it was the lantern? I don't know..." he admitted.
Kumoru then turned his bright sapphire gaze back to Chris, inquiring, "What about the numbness, is that starting to go away?"

"Maybe.." She commented as she looked to the lantern. Flexing her hand she nodded, smiling as she looked in Kumoru's direction. "Yeah, it's a bit better, thanks. But have you seen that in any of your magic books before? I must have really messed up that spell..."

"Really, though, that shouldn't have happened," Kumoru murmured, nodding slowly as he glanced back to the mark. "Strange..."
Cautiously, he reached down to touch the mark with his left index finger, careful to keep his bandaged hand away from it. "Feels just like plain ashes, if a little warm," he declared after a moment, rubbing thumb and index finger together to get the black stuff off of his skin.

"What do you figure it has to do with the lantern?" Chris asked curiously, waving her hand until it was no longer numb and turning to look at the lantern beside the marking. "Maybe something would happen if you moved that lantern over it?" She murmured, not sure if there even was a connection between the two, or if the glowing whisp would allow itself to be moved.

The mage turned his gaze to the lantern for a moment, then shook his head. "I don't think I should move the lantern. The way that knife landed when I dropped it, with the point stuck in the table and the blood-smeared edge against the lantern..." Kumoru fround a bit. "I think it wants to be left the way it is."

Nodding her head, Chris turned to look at Kumoru. "It's still a little creepy though, sitting with a knife in the table that's covered in blood... Did your injury ever heal up?"

Kumoru shakes his head, frowning down at his still-bandaged palm. "No, not really." He forces a small laugh, then adds, "Although I suppose I'm getting used to it.... I have changing the bandage down on a regular schedule already, and I'm getting better at doing things like washing my hair without aggravating it too much."

The mage sighed and sat back, then smiled a little to Chris. "I'm hoping that my hand will heal when the soul arrives in that lantern. Maybe I can see what happens to that dragon mark, too."
Then, rubbing his injured palm, Kumoru got to his feet. "I guess it's about time to change my bandages, though."

Nodding her head, Chris smiled. "I should go home by now... I'm sure as much as you say I don't, I'm sure I'm still bothering to some extent. Think maybe I could stop in again in a few days so you could show me how to do some more magic?" Gathering up her backpack, she stood up as she readied to leave.

Kumoru figured it would probably be useless to insist that she wasn't being a bother. Instead, he skipped right to the question of further magic lessons: "Sure, I could see about trying to teach you more." He glanced at the mark on the table and added with a chuckle, "Outside, though, next time. Just in case."
"Still, thank you for stopping by and visiting. And I guess I'll see you soon at the Gardens sometime soon, too?"

Nodding her head, Chris smiled warmly at Kumoru. "Sure. Thanks for letting me come by." She glanced to the mark on the table one last time before smiling sheepishly. "Outside might be best... Sorry about your table."

"Don't worry about it," Kumoru assures her. "I did worse to my own furniture a few times while I was still learning, too. I'm actually somewhat curious now to see how the lantern will react to that mark."
