Sabin noted with a grin at the flashing light that signified a call being placed from Duplex 70. Sabin had played over the tape of Richard's first transformation a couple of times since then, delighted to see one of his personal projects en route already. So many delightful eggs in baskets now.

And while there were several 'simple' mixtures of serums, this was the first other full combination serum since Zachary, though nowhere near as complex. It would certainly be an interesting, viable test to see how the psychological.. and of COURSE physical developments, went with this subject by comparison. It was almost a pity the extra ... additive that Moreau had implemented - it might add in extra variables to complicate matters and not make it as unbiased of an experiments.

Not that Sabin was complaining in any measure - Moreau choosing to use one of his directed combinations.... his "mythical" combinations was reward enough and a justification of his research with the man in charge. A proverbial green light for his projects. And that was priceless.

So it was with a genuine smile that Sabin patched through the call directly.

"Mr. Harrison, is it?" The French-accented voice called through the intercom. "How is it that I can help you today?"

Well that certianly wasn't the bored voice that Richard had spoken to earlier and he quirked an eyebrow at the intercom. The voice sounded very... interested, not a mark of the rank and file.

Richard wasn't quite sure he wanted to jump to the crux of the matter quite yet. If this was a higher up, best to feel the air a bit first.

"I'd like to make few requests if I could. My duplex has incurred some minor damage in the last few days." Richard's tentacles waved lazily behind his back.

Sabin glanced at the moniter, now switched to display the contents of Richard's duplex.

"Ahhh, yes, I am seeing that. Hard to get the little buggers under control at first, I would imagine?" He asked in an innocuous tone, rather contrary to the nature of the subject.

"It should be no problem to have a maintenance team out there to repair the damage.... in fact I am mildly surprised that one was not sent automatically. But you said there was something else on your mind?"

As Sabin pans the room he'll see that the bathroom in particular is hard hit. The mirror is cracked in several places, the facet is leaking and several tiles have been pulled off the wall. He reviews the tapes he'll see that morning rituals are still a bit... eventful.

"Little buggers??!" This had to be a higher up of some type. The causalness and the the tone suggested a highly personal interest in Richard's "Condition." Still the man had information Richard wanted, might as well make pleasent. Try to get a feel for the staff beyond Moreau.

"Honestly its like having a gun with a mental trigger and it didn't come with a safety." Richard was learning not too look at anything directly without tensing up his back muscles first, which seemed to prevent the tentacles from striking. At the moment he was pointedly not looking at the intercom. "I don't have alot of..." Richard searched for a word he came across in his readings, "somatosensation. I suppose that will improve?"

"To whom am I speaking anyway, you don't sound much like an anoymous call jocky."

There was a small chuckle, "I shall take that as a compliment, I suppose. But you are correct. I patched you through when I saw the call was coming from your duplex. My name is Dr. Sabin Duvert, and I do not believe that we have had the pleasure of conversation until now."

There was a click, and then a previously unremarkable flat blank segment of the intercom panel lit up, a face resolving on what was now obviously a screen.

The face smiled, framed by long white hair and topped with a black tophat.

"Perhaps you have heard of me... perhaps not. But it is irrelevant. I would think that you will learn to control the tentacles more... though perhaps it will also be aided in future transformations as the neural pathways resolve themselves."

Duvert... Richard had heard the name before. Not from the islanders however. His eye's flitted to a notebook sitting on his desk and before he can stop it, a tentacle fires from the corner of his vision. It adhears to the leather cover of the notebook and retracts so fast that Richard doesn't even have time to protect his face before the notebook comes flying back at him. The notebook brushes the side of his face, knocking his glasses askew.

Richard looks quite annoyed as he readjusts his glasses. His little arms aping his orginal ones.

"I believe I've heard of you. Harvard right?" He reached up to peel the notebook off the tentacle.

Richard tensed his back to make sure they didn't get away again.

"I hardly think the identity of anyone on the staff is irrelevant." He opened the notebook and smiled.

Sabin didn't even bother to repress the chuckles in response to the ... overeagerness of the tentacle. He watched the performance with an eager look in his eyes and a grin on his face.

"And you've done your research, I see. Interesting that I would have merited an investigation, however."

The focus of his eyes left the screen for a moment, and the tacking of nails on a keyboard could be heard before he looked back.

"Then again, it is your overenthusiastic journalism that got you here in the first place, I see. I'd chastize you for continuing the same sort of action that landed you in your current predicament.... but that would be rather hypocritical of me."

Richard scanned the notebook. "Proffessor of Anthropology?" He mumbled out loud. Interesting, why was he on staff?

He looked back at Sabin. "I never forget a dead end. Your office never returned my call. Although I can certianly guess why."

He apprasied Sabin for a moment. "Merely attempting to satifisy my own curiousity. Not like a pose much of a threat givin my current situation." He gave a sly smile. "May I ask your position here? Your background is not exactly what I expected, givin Dr. Moreau's fixation on harder sciences."

Sabin laced his fingers and sat back in his plush office chair.

"Non, I do not see you as a threat, Mr. Harrison, even with your new appendages. And curiousity is certainly a merit that I can sympathize with."

" I guess they didn't tell you that I had found 'employment elsewhere' when you were seeking an audience. And as esteemed as the halls of Harvard might be, it is nothing in comparison to the work being done here. While I may not have a background in the hard sciences, I'm a fast learner, and my... heart and insight is in the right place one might say. Besides, they need someone to keep the geneticists in line." The smug smile turned into an outright grin.

If conditions were different, Richard might like this man. As it was he was acutely aware that he was ultimately Sabin's prisoner and lab rat. Still Richard kept his anger holed up in a little corner of his head. You have to cultivate a relationship with one's captors. Make them view you as a human being. Sabin didn't sound like he really cared at all. He talked as if being his subject was a privilage.

Still Sabin was enaging Richard's curiosity something feirce and he couldn't quite get to the point of the conversation just yet. "So what does a professor of cultures and myths see in the work here? Other than the private reality TV show."

"well, perhaps if I were your normal Ivory tower professor, then I would say that this island would have very little to do with my research. However, perhaps you have seen some of my... personal projects around the island?"

Sabin was in high spirits. Speaking with one of those personal projects... Halloween right around the corner. Richard had managed to catch Sabin in a rare, chatty mood. Perhaps not as rare as one might think, but Sabin generally did not care to strike a rapport with the subjects.

"Zachary perhaps? Or maybe some of my newer endeavors." He waved his hand. "Though those I suppose will need time to reach their potential. Besides which, while genetecists can manipulate the strands of life and understand the body, it takes a very different sort of scientist to understand the mind."
PostPosted: Thu Oct 26, 2006 9:31 pm

Richard had not met anyone named Zachery and had not met anyone who had identified themselves as "body by Sabin" as if it was a fashion label.

"Zachary? I'm afriad I haven't come cross anyone by that name. What's the man look like?"

Richard didn't like the "understand the mind," bit at all. Not that Richard had noticed anything different about his head, but it was very clear to him at this point that he was one of Sabin's projects. That might have advantages but then again he had two barely controllable tentacles growing out of his back.

Myths... Monsters... The final word of the interview. Did Sabin make people into monster? The thought hit him like a brick. What was Zach? The urge to know redoubled. His eyes widening for a micro second before the friendly, chatting face resumed.

Sabin reveled in the study of reactions, and so the widening of his eyes brought a satisfied smile to his face.

"Ooohh, you haven't met Zach yet? A pity. He's quite ... unmistakable. But there is a duplex listing if you decide to do a bit of investigative research, Mr. Harrison."
PostPosted: Thu Oct 26, 2006 9:52 pm

Richard had actually copied the entire duplex listing posted it on the bulletin board and slowly the name came to him. "Bloodstone. An unusal name."

Time to cut to the chase. Richard had to ask. "I will have to drop by Zach's to admire your handy work. Till then perhaps you'd like to impress upon me your creativity by sharing my fate with me? The teeth," Richard grinned, showing off his canines, "don't exactly go together with the tentacles."

"Yes, his surname stood out to me as well, actually." Sabin remarked, though held himself from going into further detail. Zach's hand-picked selection was not something that he shared very readily.

"I do hope that you pay him a visit. He'd likely appreciate the company. And... your fate..?" An expression of mock disappointment found the doctor's face.

"You would have me ruin the surprise? After all, this might be your only chance in life to guess what sort of creature you are becoming. Not many people are given that opportunity at all. Though, I suppose you do have me at the teeth. Were I being more coy, I might say that a squid's beak might have an interesting intermediary stage, but I suppose that you wouldn't fall for that one, eh?"
