Something definately happened this time. The man winced, as there was a loud crash, sounding almost like a cannon's roar, as branches snapped beneath him, falling to the ground, and crushed under his body's impact. There was a cold frown on the man's face, as he looked up at the little hole he had made in the canopy, and the birds that were scrambling away from it.

He stood in the light through that hole, nodding slowly to himself as he looked at other trees in this forest.

"Different... tighter branches..." he muttered, barely a whisper to himself. It seemed that was out, and he'd have to walk through this dark place, just like everyone else. His nose crinkled, as he walked slowly, shifting his weight as he moved to minimize the noise, his body seemed quite on edge, tense, ready to fight or flight on a moment's notice.

The sickeningly sweet smell of life seemed to strengthen in the air, and kheleksul spent the next few minutes gagging. "What is it, do they just keep coming?!" With what one could classify as a snarl, she crept out of her hiding place.

Time to take care of the intruders... starting from the straggler to the amiable idiots chatting away in front of the Temple....

The man sniffed the air, his head shaking slowly as he stopped, picking out a different smell, almost overpowering, coming towards him. It wasn't the soft smell of the loamy soil, or those of the trees, but a different type of soil, one he recognized, and a something that smelled like warmed over death.

Familiar or not the man braced himself, straping his shield onto his right hand, and drawing forth his lance with his left. he kneeled down on his right knee, shield held before him, and lance behind him. Barely noticable, the man was shaking, as he waited, his eyes darting, looking for the source of that familiar smell.

She crept closer to this man, this... Living, stifling her amusement at his defensive stance. Think you can kill something that's already dead, boy? Boy... She studied his strange outfit. Nope. Not a boy. Too... wary.

khel debated lurking in the shadows, and issuing one of her infamous (for it's pathetic nature, that is; but khel never admitted that) evil laughs, as she had already lost the element of surprise. Mmm... Just a little laugh? Nah.

Losing herself in the shadows, she called out in (what she hoped was) an ominous voice, "FOOL. Turn back. To step foot on this land without proper rites is sacriligious."

Terse and to the point; and already moving on to a new shadow....

The only movement from the man, was his eyes shooting over towards the shadow the voice seemed to be coming from. He remained just as grim, as tense, as wary as he was moments before, perhaps more so, though it was hard to tell, considering how he had been just moments before.

"Come on out, walking dead. I faced your kind's master before, I fear not one of his drones," the man spoke, his voice was low, even, and strong, calling out around him.

For a moment, khel could see nothing through her murderous rage. Her kind's MASTER?! DRONE?! She hated resorting to childish means, but ...

Her twitching hands almost crushed the rock before it left her palm to strike the insolent fool on the head.

"I AM MY OWN MASTER, --" a pause, as she tried to think of an appropriate epithet for this... this... "-- IMPUDENT FOOL!" A deep breath as she tried to calm herself. "Speak not of what you know not of." Her voice seemed to deflate as she recalled her instance of death. From the shadow, she moved her hand over her chest, watching as her soul twinkled from the cavity. Good. She was still her own master.

"Ahead of you lies the Temple. It is a sacred place, one of reverence and solemnity. If you come any closer, I will fight you. This is the one thing I am willing to die, again, for."

The rock clanged against the man's helmut, rattling his brains, and preventing him from getting a clear fix on where the zombie was. He still remain however, not moving an inch towards, or away from the temple. A thin smile slowly creeping on his face.

"Musta ate a lot of brains for you to come up with insolent fool and a rock to the head..." the man said, his voice almsot snearing, and most definately mocking the hidden zombie, "Why don't you tell a momma joke next? Because, frankly, that'll be just as effective as anything else you do to stop me, now won't it?"

Calm. Yeeees. I am calm. "Must we resort to ad hominems? I shall repeat myself:

"You draw close to a sacred site. If you come any closer, I will fight you. This is the one thing I am willing to die, again, for.

"What happens now is your choice."

((... khel called j00 "Impudent fool". XD At any rate, don't worry! khel!ic will remember the note CG sent her ... eventually. X3))

(My bad, but I can write it off as the rock scrambling his memory... heheh...))

"See, that's the thing," the man said, finally standing now, the smile, all you could see of his face broadening, "You'll fight me, and you will die. You're willing to die for your cause, I'm willing to win for mine. Now, either bugger off, or show yourself," he finished, his lance resting easily in his hand, as he took a step forward with his right foot, not a huge step, but a step towards the temple, nonetheless.

Ah, such arguments were always a source of amusement to those who watched from above however at this precise moment in time their gazes appeared elsewhere. Rather, something else was swiftly approaching the forest, its bow gliding across the tree canopies as it swiftly propelled itself through the air towards it's destination - that which was approaching was none other than an airship with it's exterior gleaming as though newly constructed or very carefully maintained (think of the Invincible because I lost precise descriptions). It was flying rather low however and appeared to be searching for something in that very forest.

It continued in this manner for quite sometime and then with very little warning it slowed to a halt and raised itself above the canopy of the trees ever so slightly as if to allow room for something to pass below it. A brief pause and sure enough two or three humanoid beings clad in robes could be seen descending into the very depths of the forest - when they had entered however, the airship still remained and those within it definately appeared to have their sights set on something within this forest...

((Haha, excuses, excuses. wink Don't worry; we'll all pretend we didn't see ze_typo. >D>D>D))

"You assume that you are in the one in the position of power, Stranger." Perhaps he is.... Khel resolutely squished the nagging voice in her head.

"I'm intrigued. I propose a trade. In return for the step that you've taken and the step I have yet to take to 'show myself', you'd explain to me one thing: what is your cause? What cause would call one such as you to the middle of a forest out in the middle of nowhere?"

((EDIT: EEEE! PROMPTNESS! *clings to*))

The man's sneering smile turned into a smirk at the zombie's question, his eyes lighting up inside his dragon helm unseen by any. He took no further steps, but his mouth opened slowly, the words coming out with practiced ease, "To prove that I exist," he answered her, elaborating no further.

His ears pricked, and his grip on the lance tightened, as a strange, familiar sound came from behind him as well. It wasn't another zombie, but something, different. Recognition came slower than he would have liked to admit, the sound distorted by his helm, and the memories fuzzed over with time.

"Airship..." he whispered to himself, his mind racing at the thought, his heart pounding so loudly he wouldnt' have been surprised if the creature within that temple heard it.

((khel: *flails arms* STOP TEASING, HIGHWIND! I really DO want to know... ;w; ))

Well, a trade was a trade. No matter how asinine and idiotic one half of the trade was. Sighing, khel took a step into the light; or, more rather, the light that managed to get past the swaying canopy above her. She stared the man in the eye as she reached down to her chest and pried apart her wound.

... And her soul glittered back at the stranger through the large gaping hole in her chest ...

In a soft voice that could be heard despite the humming of the airship, she whispered, "I am my own master, Stranger."

"And it appears you have brought some friends with you. Are they a part of your quest to prove your existance? Or do you... have nothing to do with the influx of the Living in this vacinity?"

Masa gasped as she saw the airship. 'What is that thing doing here?' she thought, her mind becoming more and more crowded with worry and tension as the animals that lived in the forest became aware of the airship that was flying just overhead. She tried to remain calm, hoping that her calmness would be sensed by the animals, causing them not to worry as much. She then walked back towards the forest, picking up the pace everytime an animal became more distressed. 'Please...don't worry...' she thought, in a vain attempt to communicate with the creatures.

Running now, she made her way into the forest. Apart from the constant barrage of emotion that was in her mind, everything was quiet. Then, she could hear voices. 'I wonder if those voices belong to the people flying that stupid ship...' After a few more steps, two figures came into view. One was a man, the other, she wasn't too sure because it had its back to her. Masa looked at them both. "Is that ship yours?" She questioned, her tone sounding slightly annoyed, if not out of breath.

Without releasing the gaze of the stranger, khel replied to the girl who (materialized? It seemed so...) ran up behind her, "It's not bloody well mine, and it had better not be yours either."

Squishing her scruples against enlisting the help of a stranger, she commanded the girl, "Go back to the temple, and alert the Guardian of the airship's presence, and ask -- humbly!! -- if she knows anything about its arrival. Bring back any information she might have... and while you're at it, take those two girls you were just with with you."

She gestured towards the airship impatiently. "And you... I assume the answer to your quest is waiting at the Temple. Come, and help me protect the Temple from intruders, and I'll bring you safely to the altar." khel cocked her head to a side. "You might find your answer."
