Landing on the ice covered ocean surface Zetsuei landed and pucnhed a hole in the ice which shattered the ice around it
"Damn it all..... I need to find her"

Fira quickly rushed out of the airship following Zetsuei, but hesitated to drop off the deck as soon as she saw the pure ice that covered the ocean. The cold and water was not a good mixture for anyone, but for a phoenix it could be permanently deadly. Instinct pushed her to take a step back as she stared at the mass of water below her, but she also new that Maki had to be down there. Suddenly she was jumped slightly out of her fear, but only for a moment, as she hear the sound of the ice splitting apart. Forcefully she moved her body closer to the edge making her heart beat wildly from the adrenalin that raced in her blood stream before she took a step off of the ship.
With her wings spread she slowed her fall and refused to land on the icy surface as she just hovered a few feet above the ice as she watched Zetsuei before she asked nervously, “Are you sure she’s here?”

"Yes or atleast she was here.... I know she was I could sense her spirit energy"
Zetsuei said as he flapped his wings and hovered over the ice.
"Lets go back into the airship and head to the city"

As Zetsuei hovered the glow flashed again as bright as it could and lit up the ocean floor. As it faded a song echoed through the waters toward the surface.

Hoping to reach Zetsuei the voice began to fade as it used up its energy. The flash must have been hot enough to cause a crack in the ice coffin.

Hearing a faint voice he looked back down at the ocean floor as it lit up.
"Fira she is down there.... I can hear her voice."
Landing on the ice, Zetsuei punched the ice again causing it to shatter as he jumped into the freezing water in hopes to find Maki

As the crack in the ice coffin began stretching the cold icy waters began seeping in filling around her ankles. As Maki slept her life energy began fluxating as the freezing began to slow her heart down even more.

Seeing air bubbles rise from below him Zetsuei swam as fast as he could down to the source of the bubbles.
"Dont worry Maki, I'm coming"
He said to himself as he saw a coffin made of ice which was craking. Looking into the ice coffin he saw Maki. He began to hit the coffin as he channeled his spirit energy into his fist trying to break the coffin.

As the ice coffin shattered from the intense energy the top blew off and Maki was sent floating upwards before falling back down. Her lungs quickly filling with ice water.

Grabbing Maki into his arms his wings began to flap in the water causing him and Maki to frequently rise to the ocean surface. Landing on a small plate of ice he laid Maki down and gently pressed on her chest to help the water escape her lungs.
"Come on Maki... dont give up"

Subconsious:
Inside the darkness of her subconscious a faint blue light was growing dim.
"I did what I could little one, now its your turn. Wake up. Wake up and live for the both of us. I'm too weak to remain this way. We must merge as one."
Maki watched as the light surrounded her and saturated her skin. In the back ground she could hear the darkness moving as it stirred in its sleep. Nodding Maki closed her eyes and concentrated on waking up. Her lungs began to sting and it was becoming hard to breathe.

*COUGH* "Ow." *COUGH*
Maki slowly opened her eyes, she was freezing and it hurt to breathe. As her eyes began to focus she saw it was Zetsuei and threw her arms around him.
"I'm glad you came for me," she cried.

Slipping his coat off he placed it on her shoulders to help keep her warm from the cold air.
" You know I would Maki... there was no way I was going to not come look for you."
He said as he picked her up and spread his wings and began to make his way back into the airship

Maki coughed more water out as Zetsuei put a coat around her. As he picked her up she held him tighter and looked up.
"It's asleep for now, the darkness I mean," she said and then a frozen tear appeared in her eye and it stung a bit. "She's gone now too."

Landing on the deck of the ship Zetsuei looked down at her.
"Whos gone Maki?"
He asked as he began to walk to the door to the control room.

{Sorry for being gone so long. I was switching to DSL. But I'm back now. sweatdrop }
Fira quietly followed the two back up to the airship, glad that Maki was alright. She landed gently on the deck and listen in on what was spoken between the two, also curious as to what she ment about the darkness.

"The woman who gave me her heart so I could live as a child," Maki said wiping the frozen tear from her face. She could feel the tears forming behind the frozen one and it hurt. "I'm half her soul and she was the other half. Shinja's wife. I am she reincarnated, the one Shinja has been searching for."
Maki was cofused herself and spoke from her soul.
"I was born with a heart that was too small, my father ... my real father master Sai, who was a member of the science guild allowed his guild to implant a heart they found on an excavation *cough* *cough* *cough* to save my life," she said. "When it worked they realized I was a perfect match and the guild wanted it back. My father tried to hide me on the mist islands but something happened and I was raised by the caravan who I thought was my real family."
