Kairi froze when this eerie newcomer approched her. Was he one of the heartless....? She wanted to run away, all this was getting to be too much for the princess, especially when the man uttered the words:
Unlocked any dangerous doors lately?
Immediatley, memories of her experience at Hollow Bastion from years past, began to flash in her mind. Her becoming conscious again, gaining her heart back just to watch Sora disappear before her eyes.....was that the birth of Aros? When he became the shadow heartless? Was it all her falut?
The man then began to run his hand through her hair. She nearly screamed, but instead violently jerked away.
"Leave me alone!"
Kairi wanted to run, tried to run, but seemed to be frozen into place with fear. This man scared her, she was shaking. Why was he mainly adressing her...? Why?
He called the rest of the group her "rabble of unlikely guardians", would they all be in danger now because of her? That was the last thing she wanted, the man began to speak again. Each word dripping with vemon, or so it appeared to her. Every word he uttered made her feel worse inside.
“Is this your defense now, Princess? Are these the people you entrust with your safety? The worlds are dangerous, and I think you are foolish to place your trust in these lackwits.”
Then he laughed, and she wanted to scream at him to stop.
Will eyed the threatening individual, hand carefully placed on the hilt of his sword, ready to take the man's head off, if he must. The man approched him, trailing his finger across Will's chest.
He wanted to bite it off.
And those words....A boy who deines the truth for a living Will knew all too well what the man meant by those words, and he didn't like them.
At all.
The final stone was casted when the man touched Elizabeth. Will drew his sword and pointed it at the man swiftly, "Don't You Touch Her!" he growled, anger racking every inch of his body. Temporarily blinding him with fury, Will didn't get like this often. He was usually a very well tempered man, but when someone touched his loved ones...they would suffer.
This man had crossed the line, and he would pay.

Xeryim laughed all the harder at the emotions in Kairi's eyes. It was so simple to yank these puppets' strings! He ignored the Keybearer's weak command, turning to the furious pirate instead.
"You dare to command me?" He stepped forward a pace and placed his hand over the tip of the bared sword, twisting it to the side slightly to inspect the straight line of the blade. "At least you do a good job at what you do," he said, plucking the sword from Will's grip easily and examining the hilt and crossguard. "Good balance. Does it float?" He smirked and turned slightly as he threw the blade like a boomerang, watching interestedly as it spun through the air before dropping with a dull plop into the water. Once it had, he turned back to Will. "Don't threaten me again, pirate. I don't much like it."
He turned back to Kairi, disregarding the young blacksmith completely. "You seem to have ignored my question, Princess. Do you really expect these people to keep you safe? I actually did want an answer."

Watching Kairi's expression, a flare of anger rose within Sora. He hated seeing anyone upset Kairi, and it was clear that Kairi was so much more than uncomfortable.
Stepping directly in front of her, protective instincts mixed in with anger, giving him the strength he needed to face this individual down. He still couldn't get rid of the fact that he knew this person, and that something within him was preventing him from attacking straight on.
Something....
"Get away from her!" Sora snapped, a little fiercer this time round, and he was silently grateful for the fact that he had gone for Kairi instead of him. If Xeryim had gone for him, the Keyblade Bearer knew that he wouldn't have the strength to even strike him.
But if he so much as threatened to hurt Kairi.....
Frowning, Sora stared at him, bright blue eyes meeting the Heartless' squarely. "Who are you?"

Xeryim looked away from Kairi and directly into the blue eyes of the Keyblade Master when he cut in front. He was interested by the fury there, but he wondered if he had the strength to strike him, after the will-breaking events of the day.
“Who are you?”
His smile and mirth, the remainder of his cruel laugh, vanished, replaced by a cold straight line. He nearly radiated anger, but his eyes held a pensive stare. He crossed his arms over his chest carefully, regarding the boy before him with care. He took a step forward, staying scant paces away from him for the moment.
“It wounds me that you don’t recognize me right off, Sora. I would have expected better.”

Staring back at him steadily, unmoving even as the Heartless took a step forward, Sora staunchly stayed in between him and Kairi, confusion entering his gaze as he struggled to think.
So this person knew him, but...but Sora knew this person too...right? His gaze taking in the Heartless fully, Sora racked his brain once again, searching for any sign, anything that prompted him to remember.
Had he forgotten this person...?
Impossible.
Taking a step forward, the world fell away from them as Sora maintained his gaze. This Heartless, this person... he needed to know who he was, and if he had anythng to do with the earlier shift of feelings in his heart.
"I don't know who you are," Sora said quietly, a strange swell of emotion rising within him, strange and familiar all at the same time.

Xeryim narrowed his eyes, furious. No idea at all, hm? Time to jog your memory, Keybearer...
He took another step forward, perhaps a pace away. “You lost someone very dear to you recently, didn’t you? Someone you cared about– a lot. And you don’t know where he is, do you. He seems forever lost to you, perhaps swallowed by Pride’s trap. Right?”

And then it hit him.
His eyes widening in shock and dismay, Sora remembered. The emptiness, the sheer, cutting loss that threatened to overwhelm him earlier....it wasn't his mother, it wasn't Roxas.
Riku.
The thought of Riku getting hurt - or worse - by the Emperor had crossed his mind earlier, but his mind had violently rejected that notion before he could really think about it. But now...
His words were choked in his throat even as he felt a certain sort of panic rise within him. Lost forever? He'd lost Riku forever?
Nononononononononono.....
The sinking feeling in his stomach, the emptiness in his heart...it all made him sick. Not again...please... Sora had looked for him everywhere, and to lose Riku like this...
If Sora had been less of an innocent, he would've known to hide his reaction, to cover up his expression and find out more, but the shock and the revelation of Riku's loss was almost too much for him to bear.
"Where is he?" Sora demanded, his voice thin and choked, his eyes almost wild. "You know where he is, right? WHERE'S RIKU?????!!!"

Xeryim would have laughed at Sora’s panic, revelled in the pure unadulterated reaction he was seeing. He lived for reactions like this. But at the moment, he was too focused on his fury. He didn’t take a step this time, instead throwing his left hand up and forward, looping the chain that ran from his collar to his wrist around the back of Sora’s neck and yanking the boy toward him. He dragged Sora forward and held him up just over the ground with the chain and his left hand, locked around the jangling links just under his chin.
He leaned forward slightly, right hand cupping Sora’s jaw as he stared into those brilliant blue eyes with his own teal ones. He snarled, breath hot against Sora’s face.
“I am Riku, you over-hyped goldenboy. I am Riku.”
He smiled cruelly as he ran the fingers of his right hand through Sora’s hair. “Just as soft as always,” he whispered, before tracing Sora’s lips with one finger.
“Don’t believe me?” He pulled his hand away, reaching down to unravel a strip of cloth wrapped around his belt. “Does this look familiar?” He held the black blindfold before Sora’s eyes, smirking as he shook the fabric so it lay open in his hand and dangled below his fingers.

Sora remembered the way those fingers had sifted through his hair, and he remembered Riku's words, Riku's smile before he left with Pride. He remembered the promise that he was going to be all right, but now...
The harsh chain cut into his skin, and he was drawn impossibly close to the Heartless. A finger on his lips, soft, gentle, like Riku's touch, and it twisted cruelly within him.
This couldn't be Riku....no....not him...
Trapped by the chains, Sora made no move to flinch away even as he stared at the black piece of cloth the Heartless held. Riku's blindfold...that belonged to Riku...
It dangled before him, mocking, cruelly teasing him even as the words still rang in his mind. I am Riku. I am Riku.
No, please....
"You're lying," Sora croaked desperately, trying to grasp onto a glimmer of hope that this person, this evil...thing wasn't his best friend. Struggling to get away, the latest blow threatening to swallow him up, to overwhelm him, Sora shook his head in vehement denial. Just as his mind rejected the notion that Riku had been hurt earlier, so did his heart reject the fact that the man binding the Keyblade Master to him was the Riku he knew.
But the blindfold....
The blindfold...

Xeryim glared, a feeling raging up within him, demanding he do something completely opposite of what he wanted to do. It confused him, and he let a fraction of the feeling surface in his eyes for Sora to see. He knew it was Riku’s emotions roaring up within him, coaxing him to do the things Riku himself wanted to do. He knew this time that it helped his case, rather than hurt it, so he gave in to Riku’s pushing.
He bowed his head as he looped his hand around to the back of Sora’s head to still his frantic movements of denial. He pressed his lips gently against Sora’s for a long moment, letting Riku’s push change to a subtle contentment for the time being. Good, he’d appeased that strange sensation. He hoped it didn’t come back any time soon.
He broke the kiss, whispering brokenly against Sora’s cheek, “Believe me now?” He dropped Sora to the ground, releasing the chain and shaking it out so it lay straight against his side. He tossed the blindfold onto Sora’s chest.
“Here, keep it to remember me by,” he said through clenched teeth, before he turned on his heel. “I am Riku, whether you accept that now or later. You may call me Xeryim, Prince of the Heartless.” He raised his hand, ignoring the others gathered about them, and opened a portal of darkness, which he stepped into. He turned his head to cast one final glance at Sora, then walked away, the door closing behind him, only wisps of darkness marking its brief presence.

The lips pressed against his was startlingly familiar, jolting Sora out from the panicked state he had been in. Soft, intense...
Riku's lips.
Riku's lips.
Sora wanted to fight back, to push him away, to hit him, to get away, anything but respond, but his traitorous heart, his body remembered Riku, and had responded to him...Eyes fluttered shut, and he wept, tears spilling down his cheeks as the Heartless whispered against his cheek.
Riku...
Believe me now?
Yes. Yes. No. Never. Don'tleavemepleasenonotagainstaywithme...
And he let go too soon, and Sora's legs refused to support him anymore. Falling to his knees, his tears spilling onto the wooden boards, his heart, his mind was thrown into a swirling dervish that cut so deep, so deep...
He didn't think he would be able to feel so much pain....
Xeryim. Not Riku. Not Riku. Riku....
His hand clenched tightly around the blindfold, his fingers almost crushing the cloth, fingernails digging so deeply into his palm that it bled.
No.....

Will watched helplessly as the man tore his sword from his hand and threw it out to see. The blacksmith glared at his new adversary. Still the man was calling him a pirate. His father might have been, but as far as Will was concerned. He was not!
Fighting this man would get him no where though, he clenched his teeth in an attempt to release some steam. After a minute or two of standing very tense and trying to channel his anger out, common sense finally returned. Will looked at his fiancée "Elizabeth...are you alright?" Will knew when to back down from a fight, and unfortunately.
This was one of those times.
Kairi watched wide-eyed as the scene unfolded around her. Ignoring Xeryim's question once again, Sora had interrupted before she could gather the courage to utter a word.
Riku....
It’s Riku.
Something did happen....
They lied......
Then, Xeryim kissed Sora, and Sora's reaction was more then she could take. It was true…what Saix and Roxas had said about them. Sora loved Riku.
Not her.
She felt a horrible sinking feeling in her stomach, like the whole world was spinning upside down, everything. So many lies, and cover ups....just so she could be given a false sense of security. Happiness obtained through lies and deceit, it made her muse briefly. What was the truth anymore? It appeared all she had been told were lies…
Riku wasn't alright.
Sora wasn't ok either.
No one was!
Reality hit the princess like a brick, hard, and square in the head. Kairi's eyes welt up with tears, until they poured over the edges of her eyes. This time, it was too much, far too much for her to handle. She was beginning to doubt if anyone could handle it….
Kairi lost the will to continue the battle. Her keyblade would remain tucked away inside her pouch, in it’s shrunken form. She had wanted to help Sora and Riku....but what good was it now?
What good was anything now?
They had lost. The heartless had hit the 7th princess where it hurt the most.
Her friends.
Kairi’s heart ached; she clutched the cloth around it and sobbed heavily. Pulling her knees close to her body and rocking back and forth, trying desperately to calm herself, it wasn't working.
Roxas has told her once, that she was optimistic.
Well, the optimism was gone now. Completely and utterly.

Port Royal, Docks
Rufus stood in shock, wide blue eyes taking in the scene before him. This, this was unreal. After only a few brief moments, that man, that heartless had torn the group apart. He had mocked each person where it hurt the most, only pausing to snicker at some unseen joke. And for the second time in his life, the blonde had watchd helplessly as both Kairi and Sora were ripped apart, their previous optimism fading.
Everything rang completely wrong.
After the heartless disappeared, claiming that he was called "Xeryim", a mix of emotions settled uneasily in the pit of his stomach. He felt vaguely nauseous and exposed--- but above all, he felt anger. But he could not let his emotions rule, not now. Right now, it seemed like they had to stay together. No matter what anyone else was feeling, if they broke apart, they'd be even easier to pluck at. There was strength in numbers.
"Elena, see what assistance you can offer to Miss Kairi and.....Sora." Rufus ordered smoothly, surveying the situation. Not only would they have to work together, they would also have to be in somewhat more of a stable mindset. Instability was another weakness.
"Reno. I have a feeling our welcome here has been drawn out long enough. Check the supplies if you will." He paused, mulling his directives. Elena to the people, Reno to the technical side.
"Tseng.... I need to speak with you."

Being a Turk Commander had its benefits; namely, it came with the natural ability to ignore cutting words from opponents - words that were specially designed to damage the psyche. Psychological warfare, the game was getting old, although he had to applaud the Prince of the Heartless for knowing where, exactly, to hit.
Quite unfortunately, it only seemed like Tseng was the only one with this ability, and he was simply watching the entire series of events unfold before him like a soap opera.
The boy Sora, the girl Kairi...it seemed like all the Heartless had cared for were the two of them. He would be lying if he said that he wasn't shocked by what had happened. A simple kiss, a few words, were all that was needed to completely destroy the boy and the girl, and despite everything, he felt a pang of sympathy for them.
Not that he would admit it, but still.
And then Rufus was giving out directions, trying in his own way to keep everything from falling apart. Despite their short stay here, Tseng knew that Sora and Kairi had formed as their nucleus - the reason being that they knew this world better that any of them did, or so it seemed.
"Tseng.... I need to speak with you."
Acknowledging his boss's comment with a brief nod, he simply said, "Yes?"

What a nap!
And what a maturation. Xemnas had been out for quite a while, but over time, his mind slowly had worked its way into growing up, and now as he woke, he felt mature, older, and ready to face the world.
Whatever world that may be. He had found his way to a tiny alley and was sleeping in a series of wooden crates until just recently, when his body wanted to wake up and was ready to get himself back into action. The man walked out of the alley and stretched, yawning softly. He may have been matured, but he still had not yet gained back his memories and thus, was still a kind, nice man who cared about everybody else. Ah, Xemmynas, we love you so.
Xemnas waddled out onto the streets and looked around, not knowing where to go. He looked around before sensing, just sensing a massive amount emotion near the docks.
He headed that way.
He walked along, ignoring the stares of the people and made his way to the docks. He saw a group of people, one he recognized, and one he soon realized was the one he talked to many times through the internet.
"Sora! Reno!!" Xemnas cried out happily as he ran forward, coming to a stop before them. He now saw their faces and looked in confusion at the group. "What has happened?" He asked.
