Lowachee, Karin: Warchild Burndive Cagebird They're a series, and listed in order.
Salinger, J.D.: The Catcher in the Rye Franny and Zooey Raise High the Roof Beams, Carpenters and Seymour- An Introduction Nine Stories Actually, my favorite one of his novels is NOT Catcher. It's Seymour- An Introduction. But most people won't like that. It's kind of... well... there's a lot of adjectives (and not all synonyms) I could use to describe it, but it fails to be described in a short way.
I'll post more, but I've listed everything from my favorite two authors, so that's enough for now.

I am surprised that until now only one Terry Pratchett book was mentioned. ("Feet of Clay" a few pages ago) Most of my favourite books were written by him. His discworld-series is a kind-of parody on the real world and really hilarious. I can only recommend his books to everyone... but you should check out a list about the reading order first, because TP already has written 30 discworld-books (for adults.. there are some for youths, too) and some other books.... For starters on Pratchett I'd recommend reading this books "The colour of magic & The light fantastic" "Mort" (you should check out a short summary first and then decide if it's something for you but it's on rank 2 of my all-time favourite discworld-books... right behind "Thud!".) "Guards, Guards!" and "Equal Rites"
this are the starter novels of the mini-series in the discworld-universe ^.~ You really should check them out... though I have to say that I did not like Equal Rites that much... but that is a personal opinion about the characters there and I won't be unfair.. I know other people who say that this book belongs to their favourites.
If you decide to read one of the books, you should check out www.lspace.org, too because they have the "Annotated Pratchett Files" where they listed every innuendos they found in the books... which are quite a lot o.o
