Mr Hahn

Joe's birthdate is 3/15/77

Joe is from Glendale, CA but lives in LA now.

Joe has a split personality called Remy (For those who are slow - this was a joke. He doesn't *really* have a split personality, it's all in good fun. Joe now denies it completely though - he's lying, lol).

Joe or "Remy" talks in the beginning of "Cure for the Itch"

"Mr Hahn" constantly invents things in conversations with new fans who don't know lp very well and will make up things about them that are totally untrue. "So beware" -Brad (He'll make up stuff when talking to old fans as well so don't take everything he says to heart)

Joe gets bored very easily & has a dry sense of humor, so don't get upset if he seems uninterested or he's not receptive to you (the fans). He doesn't really mean it in a bad way. (ie/ leaving the LPU meet and greet table and walking down the line signing people's stuff so he can leave faster)

Joe came up with the concept for the "One Step Closer" video. He also was involved in the directing of every other linkin park video. He's the official video guy for the band.

Joe and Nathan Cox co-directed Static X's video for "Cold".

Joe was into visual arts in high school and also pursued it after.

Joe and Chester both agree the Foo Fighters' "Everlong" is quite possibly one the best songs ever.

Mike (and then Rob,Brad, etc) met Joe in college since Joe went to the Pasadena arts school/college too.

Joe and Mike both majored in illustration. They were both interested in painting and Joe stayed at the college for a year then he got into motion pictures. He worked on Sphere and Phantoms. He worked on monsters in movies.

Joe was born in America, but his parents are Korean which makes him Korean.

Joe says that the valkyrie fighter in robotech is the cartoon character that represents him best because he's so streamlined and cool.

Joe does NOT like NSUCK. (He said it as a joke-see i told you he lies, lol)

Joe did track in high school.

Brad

'Brad' stands for Bradford.

Brad's birthdate is 12/1/77

Brad is Jewish.

Brad went to Agoura high school.

Brad is from Agoura,CA, but lives in the LA area now.

Brad graduated from UCLA w/ a Bachelor's Degree in Communications. He didn't go onto law school so he could pursue his career in the band.

Brad is not upset about choosing the band over law school because he'd be studying right now instead of playing in a successful band.

Brad and Phoenix were room-mates in college.

Brad calls himself "BIG BAD BRAD" or BBB, that's how he signs his name (BBB)

Brad likes MTV, in particular, The Real World (i hope this is a joke, lol).

Brad is a fan of Britney Spears and the rest of the band is embarrassed of him. (Since some people are dumb, I must clerify this...its most likely that he doesn't like her music as he would never ever want to collaborate with her..he's simply attracted to her like millions of other guys.)

Brad's first instrument was the trumpet.

Brad's first band was the Pricks in 1994
(...which i believe some other members of linkin park or taproot were in..i forgot.)

Brad was also in a band with Rob. It was rock meets rap and funk, they were called 'Relative Degree'. They practiced a lot, played a show then it fell apart.

Brad's defining moment, early in his career, was losing his pants at an industry showcase.

Brad's greatest obsession is sleeping.

Brad would never part w/ his toothbrush.

Brad can't imagine being on the road without all 16 personalities in the band.

Brad didn't want to go to Hooters to celebrate the success of the album because he was a good (innocent) guy who never really did things like that; he suggested bowling; but eventually went with the guys to hooters.

According to Brad, the strangest thing a fan has ever requested was linkin park's pubic hair. Fans in the UK actually brought tape to put it on. He previously said that the strangest request he ever got from a fan was to sign body parts that shouldn't be signed (ie. boobs, which they don't sign anymore, lol).

Every Christmas (or almost every xmas) Brad and his family hold a dinner in an auditorium for the homeless & Mike likes to help out.

Brad had a mullet (in high school/college?) because he was into thrash metal like Guns n roses and Metallica..and the other long hair bands. He tried to grow his hair long but his hair grew out rather then down ..so he tried straightening it w/ a hair dryer which didn't work so he them tried to straighten it w/ chemicals and "it died"...basically his hair didn't look like it was supposed to, it was a mullet instead smile

Brad used to color his hair different colors (ie./ purple) in high school.

Brad was voted Most Unique in his highschool yearbook (see pics pg).

Brad's career highlight so far was hearing "one step closer" on KROQ in LA.

The first time Brad heard 'One Step Closer' on the radio, it wasn't the full song, it was a clip of the song on a radio spot, and linkin park were all in the van together.

Brad got his 1st guitar in (probably) 6th grade.

Brad does a lot of things in his playing that he does to try and define his own sound, one of which is using harmonics. He likes to use harmonics because oftentimes they don't even sound like traditional guitar playing. "With the right effects and the right performance harmonics on, a guitar can sound like a keyboard, or strings, and more rooted in an approach that works well with the hip-hop and electronic influences in our songs."-brad

Brad uses:
Guitars: Paul Reed Smith Standard, Ibanez RB 7-string
Amps: Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier, Marshall cabinets
Strings: D'Addario 10-gauge.

For More in depth info on all of Brad's equipment
and playing, go [to the LP Gear] pg.

When Brad has 2 hrs off (from lp stuff) then he tries to find a movie theatre and see whatever he can.

The latest record that Brad bought as of OCT 2000 was Incubus's new record.

In JAN 2001 he was listening to Taproot's 'Gift' and The Roots's 'Illadelph Halflife' a lot.

1st album that made an impression on Brad was Duran Duran's.

Brad's favorite album is Sunny Day Real Estate "Diary."

Brad's musical role model is Chester smile

Brad's guitar heroes are: Dave Matthews, (Brad doesn't go for his tone but his musicality, his playing is ingenious), Stef from the Deftones, Sunny Day Real Estate and other non-guitar driven stuff. Brad prefers to listen to non-metal stuff like Dido rather then rock this way he can draw from a lot of sources and make something special.

If he was anyone on tv he'd be someone of Seinfeld 'cos he's got such a dorky sense of humour.

Brad used to see Incubus play when he "was like in 9th grade at The Whisky" a lot. Rob also actually went to highschool w/ incubus.

Although Brad will NEVER reveal the real reason he wears his headphones on stage he did say this in a shoutweb interview: "I will say that it has something to do with the matrix. Not the movie, the actual matrix and being connected with it. Mr. Hahn has been rubbing off on me. I'm starting to integrate sci-fi humor into my schtick. It probably isn't too popular with a mass audience." LOL, "But I won't give him credit for the headphones. That's all mine."

Brad has a reputation for being pretty anti-social.

Brad played the Family Values Tour 2001 w/ a broken foot. He broke it while filming the video for "In The End" in L.A. The stage set for the video had these little stairways with a ledge. Nathan Cox, who co-directed the video with Joe, wanted him to jump off this 3-5 foot thing and he couldn't land it right so the third time he did land it but he hurt his foot. Then he had to play on it the whole night for 16 hours. His foot healed but then LP played a Camden, New Jersey show and he did something to it. * I have also heard that Brad broke his foot after kicking a steel door (he was frustrated at his effects pedals) // Both of the statements were made by Brad so i don't know which is more accurate *

Rob
Rob's birthdate is 1/20/79.

Rob is from Calabasas, CA, but lives in LA now.

Rob went to Agoura high school.

Rob is Jewish

Rob's previous day job was as a waiter

Linkin Park watch videos of themselves and Rob (according to Brad) never plays a part wrong, but he'll always point out if something's not up to par. Rob is the practice-perfect technical guru of the band.

Rob started to play the drums when he was in elementary school (third or fourth grade) after he went to an Aerosmith concert. His mom actually knows Joey Kramer (Aerosmith's drummer) so he got to go backstage and see the whole production.

When Rob got into high school he was into "a lot of funk" like Sly and the Family Stone, James Brown, Tower of Power.

Linkin Park is NOT Rob's first band. He started playing in bands when he was around 13 years old and he'd play cover songs like Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' with his buddies. That's when he met Brad and they played for about a year. It was rock meets rap and funk, they were called 'Relative Degree'. They practiced a lot, played one show and then it fell apart.

Rob likes to play the piano when he has time. He used to take classical lessons when he was young and was forced to keep going

Rob says Princess Jasmine is the cartoon character that represents him best because him and Phoenix are like a team in the band, being on bass and drums. so he's be Princess jasmine cos they fit together. (See 'Phoenix' info in order to understand this comment, lol)

His most poignant moment was getting gold plaques for Hybrid Theory.

In some interview one of the members of Linkin Park stated that Rob went to high school with Incubus, however they also stated that Rob went to Agoura high school which Incubus did not go to. Incubus went to Calabasas high school - Calabasas was the town Rob grew up in so that may be where the initial confusion arised.

Linkin Park most likely did attend high school with most of the members of Hoobastank who went to Agoura high. They even played some shows (Brad, Mike and Rob) in the lead singer of Hoobastank's backyard.

Here's what Shiri Appleby said about Rob when asked who she thought would win the "Best Video of the Year" award for 2002 MTV awards (I believe): "I know exactly who's going to win. And the winner of the Best Video of the Year is going to be Linkin Park ("In the End"). Because my first date ever was with [Linkin Park drummer] Rob Bourdon in 7th grade."

Phoenix was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Phoenix grew up in Massachusetts but later moved to Mission Viejo, CA, AND now lives in LA.

After moving to CA, he joined a band in high school called 'Tasty Snax'. The band later changed their name to 'The Snax'

While Phoenix was w/ The Snax he transitioned from guitar to bass guitar and stayed w/ it ever since.

As previously mentioned, Phoenix was the original bass player in Xero.

Phoenix played with Xero until he decided to tour w/ The Snax for a year and a half & then came back to Linkin Park.

Snax was/is a band from Orange County, CA. They are a Christian punk band. (For info on their albums check the discography pg)

Phoenix was taught how to play guitar by his mom, his greatest inspiration smile

Phoenix was raised in a Catholic family until 2nd grade... then went to a protestant church.

When they were first starting out Phoenix and Brad were college room-mates so they would drive to practice together.

Phoenix has played lots of instruments including the violin and cello. In fact, he plays both those instruments on the Reanimation album.

Phoenix says that prince Ali from Aladin is the cartoon character that represents him best, although he'd say Simba but he's a lion so that doesn't work.

Phoenix was asked which Lp member he would eat if he was stuck on a desert island and he said: "I don't know who I'd eat first, but Brad would be last... he's all bone and grissle."

Phoenix likes and plays the Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 4 and 5 string basses.

Random Info
Linkin Park has their own imprint label.

* Mike Shinoda has already signed Simplistic to their label and the band even thanks them in the Reanimation booklet.

* The Rosewood Fall has also been signed to Lp's label. You can get more info on them, [here]. Jim, from TRF, was in Phoenix's old band, The Snax, and that's how they got in contact with LP.

* Chester was also interested in signing (Hed) Pe, but their current label Jive still wants them. Jive doesn't want to let a band that they've had for so long go and then have them blow up on another label. Hed rocks btw!

Linkin Park is NOT a Christian band.

This was an old assumption people made because they toured with P.O.D. and didn't curse on 'Hybrid Theory'. [Phoenix, however used to be in a Christian punk band called the Snax.] The actual religious makeup of the band is quite scattered. Brad and Rob are Jewish, Chester has his own "really unique views" on religion (which means he prob doesn't belong to any particular religion), Mike was raised in "a really, really liberally Protestant church" and Joe was raised "in [a] little more conservative Christian church". When asked about religion and spiritual advice, Linkin Park have told kids to ask their parents, not them.

As for the lack of "cursing" on the "Hybrid Theory" album - there's no real reason for it. Linkin Park wrote honest lyrics and what came out; came out. They have also said that they didn't want to slack on the writing or take the easy way out by spewing a bunch of curse words on any given song. As for other songs and albums, they HAVE cursed and they may do it again. This wouldn't be a big deal but thanks to the 1st album being curse-free and having such mainstream success, it has become an issue for some people. No one would question Korn's use of the word "********", so why question LP's?! Either way Lp's music is always honest and good.

Hair color:

Around the time of Nov 01 Mike, Chester and Joe had shaved heads- amusingly enough Mike said they did this to avoid questions about their hair.

* Linkin Park use Special FX (or Special Effects) and Fudge to color their hair

* Mike's natural hair color is black.

* During the 'One Step Closer' era, Mike's hair was bright red. He bleached his hair himself at the time and colored it red with "Ruby Red" and occasionally Fudge 'Rock Star Red'.

* When Mike later colored his hair blue, he had it professionally bleached because he said he couldn't do a good job by himself. Mike thought the whole blue thing was too annoying though. This led to just blue/red tips, etc.

* Although Brad's hair is a 'normal' color NOW he used to color his hair purple, etc in high school.

* Chester's hair has been bleach blonde, black/brown, red, pink, purple, blue and probably other colors too. His hair styles have changed alot too. He has had curly/spikey hair, 2 devil horns, a mohawk and he's even been bald.

Linkin Park's Thoughts on Napster:

Linkin Park think NAPSTER is helpful to bands like them because their fan base grew from the internet and sharing mp3s of their music for feedback.

Awards/Nominations:

* Linkin Park won for "Favorite Artist - Alternative Music" at the 31st Annual American Music Awards (aired Sep 16, 2003). Chester and Phoenix also introduced Metallica's performance.

* Linkin Park won for 'Best Group' and 'Best Hard Rock' at the 2002 Mtv Europe Music Awards. Other nominations included Best Website (linkinpark.com). Joe was the only one from Linkin Park that went to accept the 2 awards.

* Linkin Park won 'Best Foreign Rock' at a Swedish awards show called: Swedish Hit Music Awards. The show aired on November 17th, 2002.

* Linkin Park won the 'Best Rock Video' award at the 2002 Mtv Video Music Awards for 'In the End'. Other nominations included 'Best Video of the Year' and 'Best Group Video' all for 'In the End'.

* Linkin Park won Best International Nu-Metal/Alternative Artist at the ECHO 2002 awards in Germany.

* Linkin Park won 'Best Hard Rock Performance' (Crawling) at the 2001 Grammys. Other nominations included 'Best Rock Album' and 'Best New Artist'.

* Linkin Park won an Emma for 'The Best Foreigner Artist of The Year' in Finland, 2001.

* Linkin Park won 'Best International Newcomer' at the 2001 Kerrang Awards. They were on tour in the US at the time of the awards show so they accepted their award in a crappy video (the video was low quality) message. Other nominations included 'Best Video', 'Best Album' and 'Best Band in the World'.

* Linkin Park were nominated for 'Favorite Artist - Alternative Music' at the 1/9/02 American Music Awards but lost to Limp Bizkit. Other nominees included Staind.

Other:

* Don Gilmore is the producer on "Hybrid Theory." Linkin Park was originally a little worried about working w/ him because they were looking for a heavier sound but they like the outcome anyway.

* This was a joke from an interview but Chester was saying that they almost ended up naming the band 'Ten PM Stocker', because they recorded on Stocker Street every night at 10 PM.

* The Dust Brothers gave track 3 "With You" drum loops and different Moog and synth sounds. "And we ended up mostly centering in on those Moog and synth sounds, coupling them with guitar and live drum." -mike

* Rod Stewart was at lp's practice studio, at some point before their tour.

* LP are all mostly bionic robots, Joe being 70% robot but Chester was made from bacteria in a petri dish which took 12 years to develop. (Some people have actually emailed me seriously asking whether this was true LOL, come on now!)

Mike's quote on drinking/drugs:
"We have people in the band who don't drink or do drugs . . . some of us like to go sightseeing."

* Linkin Park's message on lp.com about the 9/11 Disasters:
"While we weren't in the country on September 11, we're extremely touched and strengthened by the outpouring of support we received from fans in Europe. The horror of the tragedy reaches far beyond the United States, and we've witnessed this first hand."
Upon returning home, Linkin Park performed at San Diego radio station KIOZ's annual concert. The band donated $75,000 from the September 28th event to the American Red Cross.

From expn.go:
Modart's Keep Abreast Campaign had a booth housing plaster breast molds donated by pro riders like Michele Taggart, Tina Basich, Tricia Byrnes, Tara Dakides, and Barrett Christy. The breast molds were used as canvases for people to express their breast-cancer experiences through art. Many BBC attendees, as well as professional athletes and artists, helped decorate the molds, which will be auctioned off to raise funds for breast-cancer awareness. Even the BBC bands got in on the action, as the members of Linkin Park nabbed Michele Taggart's set of plaster boobs and decorated them for her.

For Projekt Revolution 2003 Linkin Park offered free tickets to Military Personnel and family (During War in Iraq). Here are Brad's comments on this:
"We feel the need to give back to those making personal sacrifices for our country. So we've set aside tickets in every city we're playing to invite armed-services personnel, and their families, to attend the shows for free. Our hope, is that during this difficult and challenging time, these special guests enjoy a moment of entertainment and fun."

Meteora debuted at # 1 on the charts in 14 countries: the United States, Spain, Slovenia, the UK, Japan, Germany, Italy, Australia, Chile, Indonesia, Ireland, Norway, Switzerland and Taiwan.

"Meaning-Hybrid Theory Cover Art"

Info on "Hybrid Theory"cover art and what it means: The soldier represents their hard guitar riffs, and some of the more intense yelling vocals. But the butterfly wings represent the soft side of the band. The slow melodic beats, and the soft soothing singing vocals. Basically it is just a representation of how the band is not just a Rap/Rock band, but really they are a whole new style of music all to themselves.

LP Fans on TV smile

* Mtv has a show called "Playback", in which they basically play band's/artist's whole cds with nothing on the screen except for stupid lines. When they played Linkin Park's Reanimation cd (the whole way through) however, Linkin Park had provided them with some footage for each song. Linkin Park, themselves only appeared in 3 of the "videos". Mike was in "Enth E Nd" and Joe was in "Ppr:Kut" and "Kyur4 Th Ich". The video for "Wth>You" consisted of California Linkin Park fans, quite a few being from the LPU (linkin park's fanclub). There are also 2 of LP's crew in the footage as well.

* Meteora had 3 commercials/promos that were shown on tv before and after the album was released. The third promo features California Linkin Park fanclub members as extras.

* Linkin Park's 2nd video off of Meteora for "Faint" also featured fans from California in it (aged 18 and up).
