DarklingGlory Thats the way, its easier to work up to it, start with ten minutes of very light sparring with someone you trust not to beat the poop out of you and before you know it you'll catch the sparring bug and you wont be able to get enough of it smile Hehe I think I already did, along with the snowboarding bug. I'll have to take it slow at first though as I finally switched to counters about the last 2 minutes of my spar last time. snowboarding bug? gonk

MOO HOO HAHA!
I tapped out another judo balck belt last night (3 times). That's 3 out of the 5 black belts at the club (haven't grappled with the other two yet). My aim is to dominate them all on the ground (apart from my BJJ instructor, that's not gonna happen).
I also scored an ippon against my BJJ instructor with a Tomoe Nage as well. I was practicing all lesson and ******** up every time and then right at the end of the lesson during open randori I pulled it off, couldn't keep the smile off my face.

I have no idea what a tomoe nage is (although I think nage means throw...right? sweatdrop ), but congrats! I know how it feels to be that happy that you finally get a difficult technique. =)

Points for takedowns/throws, of course, but how do you score on the ground, tap outs and such, right?

Points for takedowns/throws, of course, but how do you score on the ground, tap outs and such, right? It is alot different than Judo. You get 2 points for a take down (rather than 7 or 10 for an ippon in Judo) and then once your on the ground you get points for moving out of a postion to gain a better postion. For example if I put you into the guard I would get two points. You would get no points for passing the guard as it would be seen as your duty to pass it. If I was to sweep you whilst in my guard and mount you I'd be awarded with 4 points. Obviously if you were to score a submission then the match would be over in both Judo and BJJ.

The only experiences that they have, that I know of are in Judo and Karate. They just don't have the indepth technical knowledge on the ground that BJJ practitioners have. Their ground work isn't that hot but their throws are A1 (very, very good).
