no, they dont stick together. my school has one oboe in each grade level and our bassoon moved after marching season (she was colorguard captain) so we dont talk much. and now that we're in two bands (which hasnt happened since freshman year) me and the junior are in the top band and the two lower classmen in the lower. *shrugs* the only one i even kinda liked was the one who moved and the fishie (she played bass during marching season 3nodding she's kewl))

killa_kitten i played the bassoon during hishschool..never really tried out for the marching band.I guess the marching band we have here in regina marches with bassoons....but I'm way to lazy to learn their hard music.... Regina? As in... Regina Lions? Summer band? MACBDA?
am I correcto... ? ?
but yeah, I play the oboe during concert band, and I'm getting to play English Horn right now, but I suck.... though its really fun.
for marching band I'm in the pit. Yay pit! I heart all the mallet instruments... though I despise the bass drum like no other.

I have orchestra rehearsal tomorrow. It'll be fun. Also, I love my oboe, even though I can't say I am incredibly good. It is my first year of actually playing the oboe in a band of any sort, yet I am first chair, and first chair in the orchestra, though I was told a really good girl was coming who will probably beat me for the 1st position in orchestra, which would not surprise me. Of course, if she doesn't show up, I get to hold a chair I don't really deserve. Eh...oboe is cool anyway. I often have fits where I scream at my reeds for not being obedient. Someone suggested I try plastic reeds. So, what is the opinion of plastic reeds for this group of double-reedists? I know they make plastic bassoon reeds, at least according to the lady who suggested I get plastic reeds, but I have never seen anyone play oboe with plastic reeds.

We used plastic reeds when we first started playing, because they were easier to play on... but now, we use the wooden ones, because they have a better sound. The plastic ones stick out to much when you try to blend together, so they don't fit with concert bands.

ug, don't go plastic... which they are convenient because they don't break, they have a really GROSS sound. No blend at all.... go for cane, even though they cost a lot more... preferably hand made...

errr... the second chair bassoonist keeps playing my solos. I know he knows that they are there, because we are almost at the same playing ability, and because he hates me. How can I be nice yet still point out that they are my solos not his?

Meshai I play the oboe. His name is Walter. I get to learn how to make reeds! Yay for me. Does anyone one else here make oboe reeds? I'm in the process of learning how but I really suck at it! lol. I think when I'm working with the tip of the reed I am too afraid that I am going to take too much off, so it takes forever and a half to shave down anything....

The last time I tried to make a reed was in an oboe lesson, and needless to say I mutilated it beyone repair, so that was the (temporary) end of my reed making career =D
