It had been a long time since Uumi had found himself in such a crumy mood, and perhaps this had been the most crumy he'd ever felt. When Sye said they were going to stop he said no a word, he just stopped. He stayed standing for a few minutes, his eyes in the direction of his birthland. What had ever happened? He let his gaze drop to his feet, and then over toward Sye.
He was glad he had Syeira right now. He needed her right now, needed her enough to admit to it in his own mind. But he was still confused, still didn't know how to behave. His face hurt from the blow he'd taken from Kiuma, the blood had long dried and stopped. He needed to clean it, but didn't feel like taking the effort right now. But they were stopped, weren't they?
Dammit, what was wrong with him! His tail gave a flick and after a minute he moved right to Sye, lying down next to her, on his side so that his back was slightly pressing against her side, eyes staring at the grass around them. He didn't know what to say to her.

Syeira frowned for a moment as she watched him, the sulking she could see in the depths of his eyes - the sadness that he turned into anger. It was not something she enjoyed to see, and yet, she could find no other time that she had felt such love for her mate.
For the moment, she only watched him, her body snuggled up close to his with her head braced gently on her outstretched forpaws. She knew he needed comfort, she knew he needed someone to tell him something, but in all honestly - she couldn't think of a thing to say. She sat there, helplessly wordless, until she finally mustered up her thoughts into one collective sentance.
"Thank you," she said, the words foreign even on her own tongue. Her eyes didn't move to see him - she just sat there as she was, talking to him, knowing that his back was to her and little movements would go unnoticed anyway. "You've never stood up for us before," she added, her words not arrying that amazing calm that one might expect from her, "And I want you to know that I appreciate it."

His ears flicked at her first words, words that strangely hurt and healed at the same time. He'd never really hear Sye thank him for much... but he had never stood up for either of them. What is he supposed to say in response to that? He finally know where his priorities lay? Or what his heart really yearns for? All cheesey things, things Uumi would be caught dead before saying.
"She was out of line." He stated slowly. "And I am afraid I couldn't push he back." Behind the line, he ment. "But... at least I was finally able to realize how I felt." He swallowed. How he felt about Sye, and how he felt about Taabu.
"Really I should... be thanking you for putting up with me. Always." He whispered, eyes half shutting as he let himself feel the other body pressed into him.

She listened calmly as he spoke, unable to prevent the gentle smile spreading over her maw. She knew Kiuma had been out of line - but if Uumi was willing to stand up to her, the one he had always considered to be his second part, then he was probably willing to stand up to anyone daring to threaten the small family.
Slowly, Syeira picked her head up, leaning over to lick affectionately behind Uumi's ear. "Don't say such things," she purred out, her voice gentle for once - a voice usually reserved for the affection she showed her son. "I don't put up with you because I have to, Uumikaji, I put up with you because I love you," she whispered, nuzzling gently against the side of his neck.
"You know me, I wouldn't just do it for anyone," she purred out, eyelids lowered considerably in her moment of euphoria.

His body tensed and then relaxed as she began to lick behind his ear, something he really wasn't used to. More unused to than he words of thank you. He shut his eyes fully for a moment, a slow smile forming on his maw. See, it wasn't so bad just to let your emotions take you. Though part of him was still clinging on to the awkwardness and the want to tell Sye to stop it.
After another minute he rolled himself in place and sort of scooted back, so he could face her. So he could look at her, really. "Yeah, I know that." He said quietly. She would barely do it for anyone, to be truthful.
Was this the reason Sye had come into his life, to change him so dramaticly if so slowly?
He moved himself forward, carefully licking the side of her face, grooming if you will. Why was he so nervous, all of a sudden?

Syeira smiled weakly at the grooming, her eyes lowered somewhat as she snuggled her body closer to his - not for the warmth (considering it's always quite warm in the southlands) but for the comfort of his touch. Quite unlike her, as well, there developed a gentle little purr - an affectionate gesture that Syeira could hardly remember ever using in her lifetime. Except, perhaps, as a small cub with her mother and father.
"I'm sorry too," she said suddenly, though quietly as it was, "that I stopped you from travelling. If you wanted to go so badly, then you should have, I would have been here waiting - you know that. I set my mind on something and.. that's all I want from then on," she muttered, nuzzling her head against his neck again, her tail flickering behind her.

Uumi began to purr as well, though it was a bit broken and a little hallow sounding. Almost to be expected. He nuzzled his head against hers, tail flicking contently.
"I'm happy with my choice." He whispered to her.

-Time Skip-
It had been while the young lion was sleeping, no doubt tired, worn out, and even a bit exhausted from the day's activities - both good and bad; she had gone out then, however, to hunt. She knew these lands almost as well as her own, having grown up here for part of her childhood. It was with luck that she emerged in a decent time, pulling the carcass of a large doe along.
To her slumbering mate she brought it, dropping it not too far from their resting place. Slowly, ever so slowly, she made her way to the sleeping male - pressing her nose against his neck with a gentle purr. "Uumi, wake up," she whispered, licking at his ear.
Funny how things change so quickly.

Uumi was having a restful sleep before Sye nosed his neck, coaxing him to wake up. His eyes fluttered open a minute and he groaned in protest, but then he let his eyes open all the way. The smell of her kill was heavy in the air, and it made him realize how hungry he was.
He slowly sat up, his crimson gaze meeting her icey blue one. A large, wam smile spread across his maw as he stood, forehead pressing against her own in a loving greeting. "You went hunting?"

She smiled at the affectionate gesture, nuzzling her forehead against his own as she managed a purr on her maw again - something had definately gotten into her, but who can really say they minded the new snuggly Syeira?
"Yeah, I figured you'd be hungry," she murmured, tail flickering behind her, "and I know these lands as good as the Kusini, so I let you rest and went out to get it. You should eat before we go on." She purred, licking his maw and moving away from him and towards her kill, "we both should."

Oh good, she'd be eating too. He followed after her and moved beside her to rip a piece of the meat from the kill, thinking slightly. Would his mother want to know about Kiuma? Should he just not mention her at all?
He continued to eat, at a pace that was quick but wouldn't let him choke.

Syeira contented herself with her meal, ripping off the meat, which ws luckily still quite warm. It was a silent meal - but now, actually, the silences between the pair really didn't seem all that awkward. She ate until she'd had her fill, slowly drawing away from the carcass, licking her maw in an attempt to clean it - tail wavering slowly as she sat and waited for him to finish.
"We should get to the pridelands soon," she whispered, gazing in the direction of the horizon, tail curling slowly behind he rina motion that could only remind one of a cobra. Now with all the drama behind them, Syeira wanted to see her son - make sure he was alright, and figure out why in the hell he had left to begin with.
"We might as well see your mother while we're there," she muttered, gaze flickering towards his direction and away from the one she knew to hold pride rock, "and your father. Who knows when we will next," and they're getting old. Of course, she didn't add the last bit in, but Uumi probably knew so himself.

Uumi ate what he could and then moved away, tongue flicking out and licking over his maw. He moved beside her a moment, though stayed standing to indicated he would go when she was ready.
It was almost as if she'd read his mind, speaking of his mother. And his father, which he didn't know very well. "Hmm yes, I suppose I have some things to tell my mother.." He mumbled, frowning as his gaze moved to the sky. She'd been sick ever since he and his siblings were born. How long would she actually last?

She smiled slowly and pushed herself up off the ground beneath her, tail flickering behind her as she leaned into him - a gentle nuzzle the only thing she offered in return for the words of his mother. "Then we should go," she added softly, turning her direction towards the horizon - paws finding the familiar ground beneath her.
How many times had she made this journey to the pridelands when she lived here?

He nodded and began to walk with her, gaze glued onto pride rock. They would be there in no time, and hopefully they would find Taabu there.
