I know guy plays at a different university than me. He plays set with a right handed set up, but he plays the hi hat with his left hand, and the ride cymbal with his right. I asked him about it once. He said as a kid he never had anyone show him really how to play so he just assumed, play with the hand closest to the cymbal you were using. He's awesome too, is ambidextrious as a whole. And it works, while playing hi hat he still does all his fills right handed, he just ends with a diddle. it's awesome to watch him play.
Tips for beginning set player... practice smile . I'd also say learn to play with a hi hat before you learn double kick. Too many hot shot punk drummers think they are the "bomb-digidty" (or what have you) for using 16th note bass drum beats, but I can do the same with one foot and still using the hi hat.

aahhh double bass pedals are for cheaters. I play in an irish punk band lol.. as well as a ska band. There are some wicked beats on the bass drum on there, and if you can't do it with a single pedal, you might as well quite. No need to sacrifice the hi-hat just so you can pretend you're doing something special. I don't know. Sometime I wonder if drumming in a rig is becoming easier. You know, like drumming for dummies or something. As a noob drummer on a set, I tell you, learn the traditional set up first. That's five pieces. It's the easiest way to gain skill once you adance to double bass or multiple toms.

Sweet Irish punk and ska? You're my hero man. I filled in for a ska band once. And just used to mess around with some friends of mine. Friend of mine here at school plays in a midwest ska band called Catch of the Day, they're pretty good. I'd love to play in a real strong band some day.

Bands are the best ways to show off. Everyone's always got their eye on the drummer for some reason. "what's he doing back there" sort of thing. I love being Irish. Chicks dig it lol

YO DUDES! I am a percussionist and proud of it. Sadly enough for the past year I have been suffering from a problem in my growth plate that affects my left wrist. Anyways at my school, percussionist have a bad rep. Most of the snare and tenor line have huge egos and usually fail during marching season. I myself have region coming up, a task that no percussionist at my school has done well at. Anyways percussionist can PM me. GO DCI!!!!!!!!!!!

None of ours are 'bad' people, they just don't do well at school. I had region today, i didn't even make the first cut, which isn't fair, look at my thread about it, UIL all-region (in Texas)
