Okay. I've got a question! There's a ceremony I've heard of that I think only women have to do when they want to convert to Orthodox Judaism where you take a bath or something like that. I don't know about anyone else. But I think it would be creepy to be naked in front of a Rabbi. Apparently it's supposed to be a really intense experience though. Anyway, I was just wondering what you do during it. It isn't really a law I guess...but it's a question nonetheless. 3nodding

you're referring to immersion in a mikveh, but i don't have a whole lot of time, so i'll just say that it's a form of spiritual purification (guess where baptising came from), and that the rabbi doesn't see anything.

a women's mikveh is like a women's bathroom (more holy, but still). men don't go there.

lol

I couldn't help laughing when I read that one xd . Standing naked in front of the rabbi rofl . Well, there are other women in the mikveh that will probably be there, but no men... xd .

Don't worry, there's nothing to be nervous about ^^, it's like... going to the beach... or... taking a public bath... 3nodding .

Women go there once a month to purify themselves for their husbands. During the period the woman see's blood she has to wait 7 days where she doesn't see blood, the entire time she may not toutch her husband. After this period of 7 days, she goes to the mikveh, purifying herself, and then she can toutch her husband again. It shows the wisdom of the torah, after becoming pure, it's almost like the couple has been married again, because they can now toutch eachother, something they surely missed very much during those days she was impure. It preserves freshness, and when you think about it, is one reason many people who keep jewish law are much happier with marriage than the secular world on average.

There is also a seperate mikveh for men... Men go there usually before Yom kippur and fasts... but some people go every day. Not that I enjoy going... I'm too embarrased whee sweatdrop

Yep...My friend told me about the 7 days thing. I would kinda sorta hate that. But it does make a lot of sense. I wouldn't mind doing that if it was actually like going to the beach. I can't really see myself naked in front of other women either though.
