The Master Bedroom

At the words 'I will stay behind' the woman's vivid lips curved into a tiny, secret smile. Spreading her arms, she gently shooed the other children out...pausing in the doorway once they'd stepped back into the Sitting Room once again.

"It's been a pleasure. You can see yourself out, I assume?" She left Thanes to his cleaning, for now...speaking only to Dimitri and Sera in the doorway. WIth a final nod, she eased the door closed, her reflection catching in a jagged section of pane on the distant clock face.

In the reflection, her hair gracefully brushed her shoulders as she pushed the door shut.

The Sitting Room

The Sitting Room was largely unchanged, now that the lights were on. Most of the furniture had been uncovered, and the dust and plaster had finally settled. Near the wreckage of the chandelier, however, a dark spot was evident on the rug. It had been too dim to see it before, but a large patch of the rug was oddly discolored.

From the Master Bedroom, no sound echoed...not even the sweeping of glass. Even the storm was silent.

Dimitri made his way out and the woman shut the door, effectively cutting the other two Forgotten and their daemons from Thanes and Rotary. He was still holding his coat filled with glass. He gave an annoyed sigh and spread it out on the floor with the glass-filled side on top. He then carefully opened one wing over the trenchcoat and flapped it a bit to get the glass out. He repeated the process with his other wing, without saying a word.

He bundled up the coat again and glanced around, finding nowhere to throw the glass. Something told him that the woman wanted someone to stay behind for more than just the glass. She would've showed him a garbage can to throw it out before he left, if that was the only thing she was worried about. He didn't tell Sera, however. No use seeming paranoid. The dark blond boy, instead, gave the room a quick glance-over, to see what the darkness had hidden. He saw the dark patch among the crystals and noted it.

He walked over to the patch to check it out. After all, Sera wasn't that good at the whole examination thing. "We'll stay here. I don't fancy meeting Nisha and leaving Thanes behind. She might storm up here, though," He said as he carefully sweeped his hands through the crystals, trying to see what it was. -Can you hear anything?- He asked his daemon. She cocked her head and tried to listen.

Thanes refused to watch as Dimitri and Sera left, and it was possible only Rotary would know the reason. As proud as he was, there was an element in the situation that honestly frightened the boy. If he watched his seemingly less than desired companions leave the feeling might become a little overwhelming. The girl's words had been somewhat comforting though, and he mentally reassured himself that if he was to finish the cleaning quickly, he would definitely be out of that room by eleven.

The photograph might have been old, but the Forgotten's paranoia was quite fresh.

He crouched near to the glass, setting down the vase gently before he began to move the pieces into a pile. His daemon, who had been near silent as the decision for Thanes and her to stay was made, worked with him. Her claw like legs were unstable, but good for picking up the shards with little chance of harm being caused. Rotary's tongue worked as well, delicately moved as a third hand as it helped Thanes gather the glass together.

While the young magician kept his back to the woman at the door, the Mimic daemon gave no such unintentional trust. Both of her beady red eyes continually darted up, focusing on the woman for fleeting seconds before they were looking at the glass once again. Rotary had the will to tell Thanes he should move to keep the lady in sight as well, but was quite sure that would only cause him further agitation.

Sera frowned and stared at the broken clock as she walked out of the room, blinking when the reflection of woman's hair changed. That was weird...maybe it'd been in a bun behind her head...or Sera was just seeing things. Yeah! That was it. Her arms crossed over her stomach as she faced the door, standing close to it.

"...I don't trust that lady." She murmured to Seduire, gently resting a hand on the crane's back to pet at the feathers there. "Dimitri? She was outside on the balcony, right? How come she wasn't wet from the storm?" The dancer glanced back at the boy as he said to stay in the room they were in, nodding in agreement. It didn't make sense that the woman would only want one of them to stay behind since the glass would be cleaned faster if all of them stayed and cleaned. Seraphine put an ear to the door to try and listen for voices of some kind.

That was weird...were they just standing around or something? Her frowned deepened as she knocked on the door. "Ma'am? Can I come back in? I forgot something on the vanity." She called, actually not lying. She had left those crystals on the vanity after all. Seraphine jiggled the doorknob a bit to see if she could turn it and get the door open.

The Balcony

The doors between the Sitting Room and the Master Bedroom seemed reluctant to open, and no sound answered Sera's call. Finally, with a bit of effort, the doors gave way...and opened directly onto the balcony. The storm pushed and rattled against the side of the house, rain still slanting down under the overhang.

Lightning crackled as the wind shifted abruptly, lighting up the sky. There were no drainpipes, no trellis, no fire escape. Only a four story drop, from the highest balcony the House had to offer.

About fifty feet away, a gnarled tree stood outlined by the storm. In its barren branches, two crows hunkered...both staring at the startled girl in the balcony doorway.

The Master Bedroom was gone.

The Master Bedroom

"You're doing well, but..." Crossing her arms, the woman shook her head. "...why are you using your hands? Chores are not meant for the likes of us."

Strolling closer, the woman settled upon the couch...reclining casually to the side. Her hair was down in soft waves around her shoulders, crimson dress clinging in a rather distracting fashion. Offering Thanes a slightly gentler smile than she'd revealed before, she lifted one hand in a dismissive gesture.

"I've been here for a long time, boy. Too long. Boredom makes for idle amusements, does it not? Tell me...what's your price?" Her eyes were dark, unreflective, but her smile was deeper than love itself.

"Stay with me for a while, here, in the House. In exchange...well. You've yet to tell me your price. I'll teach you all I know, and you...will drive away the dullness." Thanes found himself inclined to agree, whether or not his reason told him better. "If the offer is mundane enough to refuse, then I'm sure you'll forget all of this...very shortly."

Only a woman could make an offer sound like a threat.

"What the..." Sera's eyes widened at the sight before her. This wasn't the bedroom! It was a balcony. What was going on here? The girl didn't step out into the balcony just incase it gave way, but her hair did fall out of the bun it was in because of the wind, allowing her hair to blow around in her face.

"D...Dimitri? The room's gone...I knew we should have stuck together even though that woman said no!" The girl whimpered and fell back onto the floor to sit in the doorway, wiping at her eyes. "He should've kept being a jerk and said he wouldn't clean it up!" Seraphine whined as she hugged her knees to her chest and buried her face into them, whimpering quietly. After a few minutes she lifted her head and stared back at the crows, reaching into the bag she'd dropped on the floor and taking out her oboe. Three wispy figures suddenly appeared in the room as she started to play; it was a sort of comfort to her. Silly teenagers always making things dramatic, she probably just felt bad that they'd just left Thanes all alone with a crazy woman and right before that she'd yelled at him. That lady was almost exactly like mom. What do you think happened to Thanes?

He could be cleaning and not know what's going on? Seduire bent his legs and sat comfortably by Seraphine, looking over to Dimitri where he was inspecting the darkspot. What's he found?

Thanes' form stiffened as the woman began to speak once more, and it took him some time before he straightened so that he was standing at his full height. Something rang true in what she had started to say, or at least it sounded wise enough to the young Forgotten's pride. His gaze lingered on her body, Thanes' teenage mind taking note of every single grown up detail.

"My price?" the boy questioned idly, tone somewhere between slightly amused and extremely enchanted. Before he knew exactly what he was doing the young wizard had taken one step towards the woman, then another.

There was the smallest feeling that he needed to turn away, but it was crushed by the overwhelming urge to simply agree. All Thanes had to do was name a price. "Money does not... interest me, but. Power."

Suddenly, he was right before the woman. He had to have moved at some point, but for the life of him Thanes did not remember telling his legs to walk. "Power and knowledge are two things I desperately desire."

Rotary quivered, rocking from foot to scaled foot as she watched her other half go towards that woman. She attempted to call his name several times, but the youth seemed to be under a spell, or perhaps he simply no longer cared. The daemon found herself without a mind to try and stop the pair at the moment, merely standing back and watching something she knew was wrong go on right before her.

The Master Bedroom

"Aaah..." A drawn out sigh of realization, appreciation. Reaching up to briefly caress his face with cold fingers, the woman's smile dimpled slightly at each cheek. "Two of my three specialties."

Swinging her legs gracefully back over the edge, no longer reclining, the woman patted the seat beside her. "I will give you a taste, then, and give you leave to say your farewells. Return before midnight, child, or our next meeting will be far less pleasant."

Waiting until Thanes sat, the woman reached up slowly....taking his face in both hands. As her face neared his, a calm settled over the boy, allowing his eyes to sink shut as they naturally would. Her crimson lips never graced his, however...instead, she pressed a kiss to his right eye, and then his left.

Drawing back just as slowly, waiting for his eyes to open once more, she smiled. The color of Thanes eyes had deepened, becoming more vibrant...the pupils narrowed to striking pinpoints. "Power...and knowledge. Parlor tricks will not cloud your eyes, child. Not for tonight, at least. Return to me, and see the truth of the world...forever."

A simple glance about the suite assured him of what had changed. The photographs in the frames had all faded, age settling heavily over every object but her. What he had seen before, the illusion of a well kept chamber unmarred by little more than dust, had vanished.

Illusions were as transparent to his eyes as a simple mist.

"Go. I will be waiting. Do not speak of this, or our arrangement. You have your own reasons for staying, I'm sure. Give those, and no more. The others will be...jealous." With one hand, she motioned to the door.

Thanes might have been inclined to purr as the woman had him sit. He was well prepared to be kissed, and his reaction was slightly surprised as he felt the woman's lips lightly touch both of his lowered eyelids. As she pulled back he had blinked his eyes open, instantly looking around the now startling room with a new sense of clarity. None of it had been real, had it? The music might even have been part of the illusion.

It was a smile that graced the boy's lips rather than a frown. Words that concerned the world and power filtered in, and the male Forgotten knew that he would return. There was very little that would be able to keep him from doing so.

He stood, beckoning with his arm for Rotary to draw nearer to him as he stepped towards the door he knew Sera and Dimitri had exited through. "I'll be back soon."

With a final gaze towards the woman that seemed more illusion than anything else, he reached forward to turn the knob.

The Sitting Room

-As Thanes stepped back into the room, he noticed Sera at the window...sitting by the now opened shutters and playing a gentle tune on her oboe. The wisps around her were transparent, but not illusion...apparently summoned by her magic.

Dimitri and Remember were settled by the rug, examining a darker spot toward the center. From below, Remember could hear the bang and clank of machinery...and the warmth of that spot of the rug was evident under her paws. Something, obviously, was down there.

The doors closed behind Thanes, the stir of air shifting a tapestry across the room. For a moment, it drifted to the side...revealing a stairway to his eyes that had previously been only a wall. In that same moment, soft footsteps echoed.-

~

Nisha trudged up the stairs, hair still wet from her shower. She was going the wrong way, that much she knew, but surely the stairs would let out on the main floor somewhere...

Pausing at the top of the staircase, pushing an annoying curtain aside, she started to find herself in brand new room. With...people! People she knew! "What the hell are you guys doing here?"

She was short tempered, but for once actually had a reason. Her stomach was in knots, and sweat beaded her brow. Her Daemon was no where to be seen.

((Sorry, I couldn't get on last night))

Dimitri didn't find anything about the dark spot. Nothing. So he stood up and raised an eyebrow to his daemon. She responded wordlessly, in the emotion of worry. He found himself agreeing with Sera, he didn't trust the lady but she left to open the door. He could then hear her yell that the room wasn't there anymore.
Di and Remember's eyes darted around the room, "Then come back in here!" He yelled to her after a few long steps to the doorway. He slowly walked back to the dark spot, bending down to touch it again.

That's when Thanes walked in and it seemed as if he opened the door, even though Sera had left it open. A second later Nisha came storming up the stairs they came from and Di's stomach twisted. He half expected Desperate to be following her but instead she was alone. Her elephant daemon probably couldn't've gotten through the steps, Remember reminded him. She wanted to tell him about the machinery down below but something stopped her. She shouldn't bother him with pointless things. Of course there was machinery down there!

So Di stood up and lied, "Doing exactly what you told us to be doing. Search the House for things you would like." He said. He didn't think telling Nisha that they were waiting for Thanes to get out of the room with the strange woman would do any good and do much bad. But Di was surprised that he said it so convincingly. "Now let's get down before you collapse from being so far from your daemon."

The Sitting Room

Nisha's mouth opened at Dimitri's comment, eyes narrowed in indignation. She was fine! She was only a bit dizzy, and crampy, and...okay. She wasn't fine.

Shutting her mouth again, Nisha sighed. He was right. For a moment, she held the boy's eyes...finally giving him half of a tight smile. "Thanks. I'd rather just get this over with, though. So, did you find anything? Aside from broken crap and old furniture?"

Turning around in a circle, taking a look at the dirty, battered, and mussed sitting room, the girl shook her head and glanced back to the six. "I'm assuming the answer is no. Well, sho-" Nisha paused as her gaze crossed Thanes, eyes narrowing once again as she peered at him. What the hell? Something was different. Had they gotten in a fight or something? What was with that look?!

Finishing what she'd been about to say, Nisha plopped down in a chair across the room, closest to the hidden set of stairs. Dust rose around her, but always seemed to gently veer as it approached her face. "Show me what you've found. I wanna go."

Sera blinked and looked up when she heard footsteps, still playing a soft song on her oboe before she noticed Thanes. Gasping, she put the oboe on her bag and ran over to give him a tight hug, squeezing the boy tightly. "You're back! I'm so sorry! Did that witch hurt you?!" The girl stepped back to hold Thane at arms length and give him a good once-over to make sure everything was in tact...or...well...make sure everything was the same as before.

Nisha's voice startled her and caused Sera to jump an entire two feet away from Thanes, staring at Nisha for a moment as if trying to think of an answer. "And we found some! Hope you like what we found!" The girl nodded in agreement to Dimitri's suggestion of going back downstairs to Desperate, walking back to the balcony to collect her things while waving away the wispy girls. "Then we can negotiate out way out of here! Isn't that great news, Thanes? You've probably wanted out more than all of us!" She didn't even bother to see if they were even leaving at the time he wanted them to.

She was about to head towards the door but Nisha insisted on them just showing her the stuff now. With obvious reluctance Seraphine reached into her bag and took out the jewelry box and comb. "Here's what I found. I forget what Dimitri found...did you end up finding anything, Thanes?"
PostPosted: Fri Aug 04, 2006 10:23 am

Dimitri was annoyed his lie was for nothing. He'd never actually pulled a good lie before and Sera just ruined it! He glanced over at Thanes and saw that something... wasn't right. He decided it would be best to tell Nisha, in case it was bad. "There was a woman in the next room, though. She insisted on talking to one of us alone, to help her 'clean up the glass'. Thanes volunteered. Clean up glass, my wings," He said slightly viciously, then walked over to the broken chandelier and opened his coat, dumping the glass on top of the crystals.

Then he gave his wings a good fluff over the pile and put on his coat, sliding his wings through the rips in it. Sometimes wings were such a hastle. He then walked over to Nisha, Remember trailing at his feet. He reached into his coat pockets and brought out the box and the locket.

"There y'are," Lapsing a bit into his cockney on accident. He pretended not to notice but Remember replied with her ever-constant thought to that, -It's just an accent, Di. It's nothing to try to hide. Remember never got more annoyed when he tried to hide his accent. He gave an annoyed look at his daemon and opened the box, leaning the opening towards Nisha. "I'm not sure if this counts for more than one or not."
