Nechama How long have you been playing? If you practice tons and tons of scales it will eventually improve your range. One of my horn friends (an excellent hornist) can get my low range and one octave above the E you were talking about. His secret? Technique exercises. And lots of 'em. Holy carp. I've only been playing since grade 9... and I'm in grade 11 now.. so about 2, 3 years ish. I HATE technique exercises! G's crazy about them!

Wooyay. On Monday I went from low F (one octave under the first space) to A over the staff. And I've only been playing for two years! I think I've hit the C an octave below middle before too. *Loves the technique exercises* I suck at rythm though.

I've been playing for a year and play from the Eflat that is below the staph on the bass cleph and up to the A above the treble staff. I love it. But, I stopped playing horn since now I'm in highschool and play Mello during marching.. If you don't know, I don't play horn during concert, I play bassoon.

WOOT FRENCH HORNISTS! Has anybody found that we almost ALWAYS get forgotten when it comes to practicing with the band (Teacher: Okay, saxes and trumpets "AND ME!" and horn, sorry), or with music (Teacher: Oh, sorry, I forgot to order a french horn book! ^.^; wink ? Yeah XD
I can play up to high F if I'm having a relitively good day, and MAYBE high G if I'm lucky. I think the lowest I've gotten was low F, but I havn't tried any lower, and like any songs actually require one to go that low razz
Ooh yeah, I've been playing since grade 7, and I'm in grade 9 now, so that makes 2-3 years so far. Whee ^.^

Woo, joyful fun. One of the trombone players asked me why I put my hand in the bell. Of course, I told him that it helps the tuning. He wanted me to show him the difference, so I played a C, pulled my hand out, and and flatted the note(without moving the rotors, of course, he's not that stupid). I repeated this over and over again, sharpening when I put my hand in and flatting when I pulled my hand out. He just stared. I'm pretty sure he believed that my hand could actually put my note off a half-step like that! Mwaha.

sugarnew182 What is a good brand for a Mellophone... By any chance, is Dynasty good? Most definitely! heart We have three brands of mellos in our band, and our two Dynasties definitely outperform the Yamaha and the Bach-Mercedes we have. The Yamaha is definitely good, too, but it's intonation and tone quality aren't as good as the Dynasty's is. The Bach-Mercedes... they're just so old... I think that's why their tone and intonation are so horrible. O_o I played the Yamaha last year, but this year I'm on a Dynasty, and even though it's a tad bit heavier than the Yamaha it's worth the extra weight. blaugh

Hey all, just joined =3 I was section leader of our F Horn section til I graduated. I bought myself a mellophone senior year (that was a few paychecks but well worth it xp ) and it was great fun (its name is Mello Yello hehe) ^_^ I also play my mellophone in a ska band. Anyone else play FHorn/Mello in a band outside of school? ~Kihou-chan
