Katrina and Drxisisliege both bowed their heads. Katrina was falling back on Feteran doctrine of manners when adressing royalty. She hoped it was good enough. She was impressed that the male had so easily controlled his emotion of fear, unless it was the sister that had urged him up here...then it would make sense.
"Forgive us if we lack manners. We are uncertain as to how to proceed here when meeting someone of your station." Katrina stated. The torches cast light upon Harlan and Maura. Katrina looked on them with a sliver of the aticipation with which they came to see the dragon. He looked like Cedric, only with smoother skin and a youthful vitality added to the determined rigour with which Cedric conducted himself. The young woman has that sasme flare of the personality and fair looks. Behind her, Drxisiliege took a step closer, and kept her head down in the light, offering herself for the king to see that he wasn't dreaming.

Harlan stood in silence a moment, staring at the dragon, a beautiful creature. It was like he hadn't heard her.

Cedric walked over to his sister and kissed her on the forehead. "Some day you may both see your own dragons in this world, if they wish it."

"Is this dragon yours?" she asked.

"...Darling Maura, this dragon is female. Katrina and Drixisledge are one."

Suddenly Maura was staring at Katrina more than the dragon. "You look young to be riding a dragon," she put forth in a politely timid manner. "How did this happen?"

"Good question!" Harlan agreed, suddenly bursting back to life. He stepped towards Katrina and offered his hand palm up. He meant to kiss her hand. After all, she was close family. "And where would our other guest like to stay? This roof top is fine for landing, but perhaps too exposed to sleep on." The king did not attempt Drxis' name for fear of mispronouncing it.

"There is a place for her to rest hidden," Cedric assured them all. "A place that I have need of."

Maura put a hand on Cedric's shoulder. "Brother, may we all not rest for the night? It will take time to get the counselors together."

"I am looking only for the king's permission, not yours, and not the counselors. I want to bring my dragon here, and I need only his help."

Katrina hesitantly placed her hand in his and let him do whatever was customary. She swallowed whatever prideful disdain she had at letting a man touch her, having by now adapted to the unordinary. It pricked her a bit that the man had previously appeared to have ignored her, but there was somethign sincere in the way they both welcomed them.
"I am not quite certain what you mean, but if you are asking how she got here, that is all Cedric's doing." She said timidly.

When Cedric uttered his fierce statment, Katrina waited calmly till he was finished then said her piece, without reproval, but more in agreement with Maura.
"Perhaps, Cedric, it would be best to at least consider entertaining them with the idea that they have a say. I mean, your country has counselors for a reason." Katrina cautioned. She did not want the people being upset for what could be seen as Cedric forcing the King to go over the heads of the counselors.
"In the end it would still be the King's decision." She inclined her head to Harlan so as not to be rude in refering to him in the third person.

The king kissed her knuckles and let her hand drop.

"They will disapprove!" Cedric snorted. "Don't give them the illusion that they have a say in the matter. My other half wishes to cross, and I will find a way to do it without your help." Cedric put his hands on his hips and rose his chin high.

Both men had a wirey grin on. "And what good is it to me to have a bunch of dragons flying around the castle?"

"Intimidation?"

"Scare the common folk?"

"Pfft." Cedric shrugged his shoulders. "You are missing the real crux. What if you-- what if both of you-- could see your beasts standing beside you in our world." Cedric gestured towards Drxis. "What love do you have for her though you've never met her. She is one of our kind!"

He looked to Katrina then, with a gleam in his eye, as if she proved his point. Well? Didn't she love having her other half with her? The king and his sister looked uncomfortably jealous.

Maura interjected abruptly into the silence, sensing that sense had abandoned her two brothers. "His dragon before yours, Cedric," she demanded. "And you will all need your rest. And still you will need to explain what is expected of us."

Harlan was silent for a moment. "Rest. I wish to talk to Katrina."

Katrina wasn't sure how Cedric would respond to his sister's 'suggestion' to the order in which the dragons were brought back, but she agreed that they would need rest.

"At least rest, Cedric. There will be time later to discuss this. I think I could use a soft bed, once the King and I have finished our conversation. Then we can plan to return both dragons here. You will have to tell me how its done, if you want my help."

Even if he didnt want her help, she hoped he didnt think he could get away without satisfying her curiosity. If he truely was her father, he would have to know that at the very least.

Cedric sighed. He didn't like being humored just because he felt urgency in the matter. With the air of insult, he said to his brother, "Fine. Talk to Lady Katrina. I will be telling Lady Maura how to bring her dragon here."

"Fine," said Harlan as he touched Katrina on the shoulder, meaning to lead her away.

"Fine," said Cedric, as he turned his sister to face Drxis. Maura nervously assented to the arrangement. If Cedric planned to explain every thing to her right here on the rooftop, then Drxis would know as well. Drxis would be able to tell Katrina, and Maura would most probably tell the King. And with Maura there, it didn't seem like any thing surprising would happen. The King would have to count on that.

Harlan led Katrina down the stairs as if he were escorting a princess. As they entered the lit stone hall ways, it was easier to see just how much younger the king was compared to his brother. It made one wonder what had happened to the siblings inbetween. Or perhaps they had all been girls. Was a woman even allowed on the thrown?

"I'm sorry to put you on the spot," he said, green eyes sparkling in her direction. "I would also like to make you comfortable. Perhaps some tea and cookies?" he asked. "You have had a long journey, I gather, and these may help restore some of your energy and ease your weariness."

Katrina followed the king in respectful silence.
"Tea is acceptable, thank you" Katrina said politely. "It is not so much the one journey as it has been the uniqueness of the day. I have not had much time to assimilate all the new information of the day. I have only just met my bonded in the real world this morning. Cedric has yet to tell me how he accomplished it."

"That does preclude some of my questions," the king admitted in a low murmur. "But!" he rejoined swiftly, "certainly not all of them. My head is swimming with curiosities!"

Harlan interrupted himself to have her tea started. As they passed into a room, he signaled to a guard that had been following to his rear. The guard had heard the conversation of course, but Harlan added, "Make sure that we are left alone. I don't want a word of any thing breathed even to my sister."

He opened the door himself, letting them into a comfortable-looking room with red-plush furniture surrounding a red-wood table and warm rugs on the floor and walls. Stone castles get a little bit chilly with out them.

Harlan reached for a chair, pulling it back for her.

Katrina sat in the offered chair. She knew that at least some of the questions would be about Feteris. She would have to decide here and now how much she would be willing to divulge. She looked up with a serious expression and asked a question of her own.
"Why such concern for your sister overhearing us?" The man's sister would be the least of the King's problems in any kind of political system, or so Katrina thought.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 09, 2007 10:02 am

"It's mostly an expression," he chuckled. "Yet she does think herself queen sometimes." He nodded more seriously and sat forward in a chair across from Katrina. "Family look after each other, sometimes a bit too closely. I wouldn't pry into Cedric's business except that this time it does affect us all."

His head did seem to be swimming, for he seemed to have trouble deciding on his first question. It was hard to balance what he was most curious about with what was probably more important for him to know as King. Harlan was nearly breathless when he asked: "Now that you are both in the same world, is the magic easier? I imagine talking is at least easier?"

This 'family' certainly seemed important to them, even Cedric. She was glad that she seemed to be included in it.
"To tell you the truth, I have not attempted to use any. I have rarely ever had the need to. Speaking is easier. especially since she can communicate directly with more than just me. It has only been a day or so since she crossed and I am not sure how many others have interacted with their dragons after crossing, so there is not much experience to go on. Cedric seems to think it best to proceed, despite the fact that we really don't know what will happen." Katrina said. She opened her hands apologetically. "I have been reading what Cedric has on the subject of dragons, but I don't feel confident enough to make my own theories. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful then that."
PostPosted: Thu Jan 11, 2007 7:41 pm

"That's alright," he assured her warmly. "I am just asking your opinion, your experiences. We have just met after all, so perhaps I am a bit forward. Would you like to ask me any questions?" He smiled and leaned back again, his fist curled comfortably under his chin.

Katrina sat forward. She did not wish to disrupt the King's line of questioning. She was no half-wit. If this had been driven by curiosity, the King's questions could have waited. She therefore assumed, in the spirit of caution, that the King had an alterior motive.
"I appriciate your efforts to make me feel comfortable, but I am not sure that my inquiries are appropriate at the moment. Your system of government is new to me, your observance of familial relations is curious and your own position in your country is difficult for me. These are the areas I wish to question someone on. But there is one thing I can think of that I would like to know, if I may be so bold as to break what may be certain proprieties in treating one of your class" Katrina hesitated on the last two words. "I wish to know what your personal experience with your dragon is. I would like to know how much you have learned and how much you interact with your dragon. Do you have any sort of formal training?"
PostPosted: Mon Jan 15, 2007 10:04 am

The king bit at his lip. "Training, instructions I have plenty of. Actually, I am not old enough to talk to him yet. So I can't exactly admit to having done that. It is very dangerous for yourself to communicate, or especially to switch out, with your dragon before you are at least twenty, preferably twenty-two. A Dragon's being is so potent that it can warp the fragile human existance."

He shifted positions, crossing an ankle over one knee, then his foot back to the floor again. "So you might see why I am apprehensive over my brother's proposal. I am just about the right age, but my sister is younger. Won't it endanger us? What about yourself? You seem quite young." He grinned and lifted his chin. "You don't look touched. Do you feel touched? What do you think-- should I jump ahead with this unorthodox idea?"

"I admire your caution. Your older brother Cedric did not inherit the same judgement." she said by way of delaying her own answer. "although I started young, I am now of a reasonable age that the risks of communicating with my dragon are lower. I also had many things going for me, among which was my affiliation with many types of strange beast which accostumed me to the unusual, my position as high as it was strengthened my resolve and my family name made me deserving of an education which gave me a sound and capable mind. Thus I was able to wthstand the mental barriars and the incohesivness of communicating between minds and maitain a sense of self throughout my interactions with Drxisisliege. I do not know much about you or your sister, but among the first things that Cedric cautioned me was that a mind too young should not be risked unless it has already advanced to far on its own. I had already been switching with my dragon long before Cedric and I met. He certainly could not expect me to go back. Your own relationship with your dragon would seem to be the best indication. How much do you know of your dragon, if I may ask?"

Above the castle, still on the tower, Drxisisliege nudged Cedric and sent him a quick, unobtrusive question.
Should I wait here for Katrina or is there something else you would prefer I would do, Cedric?
