These are kobold attack rolls

The kobold archers send another volley of arrows at the new group townfolk causing havok among the ranks.
The cleric, joining the townsfolk and guards in the battle are currently turning the attack, and the kobolds lines are falling apart.

A kobold attacks Timothy with a shortspear. 5 + 1 = 6 miss
A kobold attacks Tanith with a shortsword. 18 + 1 = 19 HIT
A kobold attacks Uri with a shortspear. 7 + 1 = 8 miss
A kobold attacks Aravol with a shortsword. 16 + 1 = 17 HIT

This is a kobold damage roll

A kobold following Tanith swings, catching him from behind. He takes 3 - 1 = 2 damage.
A kobold swings at Aravol, getting a weak, glancing blow. He takes 1 - 1 = 0 damage.

There will be no hobgoblin attacks this round.

Before the hobgoblin leader can strike again, Tanith brings him down with a mighty blow.
The other hobgoblins, seeing thier leader fall, try to flee.

Action Summary:
Aravol engages a kobold in melee, missing it with his spear thrust. The kobold returns the attack with it's shortsword, but the blow is too weak to do damage.
Arazil takes another swing at the hobgoblin, missing. The hobgoblin begins to retreat.
Tanith is attacked by the kobold again, this time from behind. Tanith takes 2 damage. He then delivers a stunning blow to the face of the leader, sending him to the ground. Upon seeing their leader fall, the other hobgoblin's begin retreating.
Timothy, still engaged in battle with a kobold, finally delivers the killing blow.
Uri, also in combat with a kobold, clobbers another opponent with his hammer, leaving him standing surrounded in bodies.

Current situation:

Back in the town, the rain and the townfolk appear to be finally winning the battle against the blaze, but at great cost. There is an audible hiss from the constant downpour upon the cinders of the buildings. Even the standing buildings are charred and smoking, a red glow and smokey haze is still glowing throughout the area. The lightning and thunder have apparently ceased, but the downpour of rain continues unheeding and strong, cold winds whistle in from the north.

The townsfolk and guards near the eastern road are spreading out and taking care of the few kobolds left, and the scene of carnage around you is grim reminder of how dangerous kobolds can actually be. Nearly all of the caravan guards are dead or wounded as are a good number of the townsfolk and town guards who came in to the fray. The few clerics who work in the town are going to be busy for some time. Kobold bodies are everywhere, but a great many more escaped into the woods, and one of the wagons is rumbing off to the east, followed by town guards on horseback.

You should track this by editing your sheet. There is an area in the top of your sheet. whee

The townsfolk looted most of the corpses, but if anyone really wants a shortbow, shorsword, shortspear, leather armor, or a longsword you would have a chance to take it. Also there is a set of splint mail and a battleaxe up for grabs. If noone wants the equipment, it will go to the town garrison.

You are brought to the temple by the grateful townsfolk and the clerics tend to your wounds. The clerics let you know that two important men have come to visit you. They then usher in the Mayor of Triel, Hulmace Margbarster, and the head of the caravan, Uthgar Grimphyr. The two men hail your efforts to save the caravan. They say that, though much of the cargo was lost, they still plan on sending the caravan on in the morning.

"Our town's only hope is to get these goods to market, so the caravan can return with supplies neccesary for rebuilding the lost parts of town." Hulmace informs you.
"But the journey may be more dangerous than we have ever known before, with the increase in attacks in the wilderness, and now right outside our own town!" he adds, angrily.

Uthgar interrupts him, saying "Many of our guards have been lost, we must convince the townsfolk and any others we can find to help replace them. I figure we will have a much better chance if we can tell them that the heroes from the battle will be coming along."

"Of course, you will be paid handsomley for your services" adds the Mayor, laying 5 sacks on the table. You can tell just from the sound, those sacks contain gold coins.

The battle is over, the cavalry arrived and the raiders fled, but the loss of moral caused by seeing their ferocious leader fall to an unarmed and unarmored man destroyed their moral more than the beating they were taking ever could have.

Now we're back to the story. The mayor's sacks contain 500g, and there is a sack for each of you. You can talk to the men now, or agree to go, or haggle, or go shopping in town, or whatever. If everyone agrees the caravan will head out in the morning with you on it.

Arazil reaches toward the gold and pushes one of the sacks back toward the mayor. "I am a cleric of Helm, protector of the peace and defender of the downtrodden. If guarding this caravan will help restore this town after that devasting attack, then I will gladly provide escort. I require no gold for this for it is my sworn duty." He steps back from the table. A little of the zealousness has returned to his eyes as he remembers why he fights for the people. He begins to wipe off his armor watching the rest of the party and the mayor.

I grab one of the sacks, and inspect the contents, then look up at the Mayor. "This is a good deal of money. And I believe it would be better used to help rebuild this town than to line my pockets. I will gladly accompany the caravan. All I ask is for that I am provided my food and water..."I hand the sack of gold to the mayor."and, of course, that my share is used to help rebuild this town."

He glances in the direction of the monk and slowly nods his head in recognition of his act.

I look at the cleric and smile "It is always good to see others who will show an act of kindness like that. I can see that you are a good man." I say quietly to him, so as not to offend others by implying they are not.

Aravol grins happily at the recognition. "I'd be glad to help!" He announces, standing up and taking one of the sacks. "Well, the thought is appreciated," He says, "but accepting this for myself when it could be of more use here is something I'd rather not do."

I bow to the men respectivly, and begin to walk out of the temple."If we are to leave in the morning, I should be off to get some rest. If I could get a quill and ink, and a sheet of paper sent my sleeping area, it would be greatly appreciated."I leave the temple, heading back to the battlefield one more time. I grab the armor the hobgoblin leader was wearing, and head back to my sleeping area. There I sit and continue my meditation from earlier, the armor just sitting next to my bedding.

((eep, umm...since I don't think I can move the order of posts, this is before the current action summary))
