Kimi shook her head quickly, not wanting to explain. How could she explain that to him, without bringing up the very thing...the very person she wanted to forget? She would have jumped on the chance of changing topics as he started to talk about his past, but that might in turn lead to questions about her own, so she veered back to the more immediate situation. She glanced sideways at him. Did she see the flicker of a smile? She blinked, unsure, but forced her eyes to the stage, watching as yet another life extinguished before her, like the wick of a candle. She brushed roughly at her eyes, before any hint of tears might find their way past her lashes.
"It's such a waste...such a sad waste..." she said. "I knew Sydnie-san...Not what one would call a friend...But one couldn't help but to appreciate the fact that nothing could bring him down."
She looked down again, as the Headmistress brought up the festival.
"How can any of us think of a festival now?" she said bitterly. "She truly is heartless...."
Kimi shook her head again, her voice rough with contrained emotion. "No, here in Midori, we're all reminded of how helpless we are..." She looked up at Yuusuke, not quite meeting his eyes, as she brushed her fingers against her own collar. "Every morning...we wake up and realize that this isn't just some crazy nightmare we've landed ourselves in." she swallowed hard against the lump in her throat and gave Yuusuke a humorless smile. Her voice, when it came out past nearly gritted teeth, was harsh. "But we get used to it, ne? We all do..."

Angel could not help himself from crying. As michale comforted him he was faintly aware that the old Michale was currently there, the softened side, holding him and letting him look after him.
His death grip around Michale's waist did not change either. But having Michale's arms around him, having him murmur soothing words and just being there, a strong force, helped Angel feel safer, feel like no one would hurt him.

Renji made a strangled noise as Cyndir hugged him. He wanted to push him away, to tell him to leave him alone, but he couldn't. This was too much, all of...it was just too much. And that cold hearted monster...she didn't care in the least. Thank the stars above she had never reproduced, how horrible would that poor kid's existence be. Unless they turned out just like their jackal of a mother.
Renji tried to pull away, but when it became obvious the boy wouldn't let go he relented. Still, he said nothing. Even if he wanted to, he didn't know if he could.
Miko pulled slightly away, trying to get a hold of herself. She flet like such a baby, blubbering as she was, but she couldn't help it. Still, how must poor Ayumi feel. She really was a little kid after all....this was something she shouldn't be witnessing especially. She looked to the girl.
"Y-you ok, Kohai-chan? You shouldn't look, ne?"

Ayumi lifted her head as she heard the talk of lemmings running to their death. With her head buried in her skirt, she had managed to block out most of the affair. But when she heard the voice of the headmistress, she involuntarily looked up. As she spoke about the dead students as idiots, she couldn't help but fear her existance in such a place. What had she done to deserve this punishment? Why was her life at risk everyday?
"Why won't s-she.....j-just stop....sempai?" Ayumi's face streamed with tears as she looked at Miko, the older girl in tears also. "I.....I w-wanna go home....."

Yuusuke gritted his teeth. It was clear to him that he wasn't getting any reassurance. The "we get used to it" part gave him some comfort - not because it felt as if he would ever get used to it, but because it wasn't just him. It was we.
All of the students of Midori, genius or idiot, book-smart or street-smart, murderer, thief, arsonist, hacker, or innocent little angel were tied together by one accessory, and one fact. The accessory? The collar. But deeper than that still, was the emotional tie they all had. It existed on two levels. That of the mates, now as real in his mind as ever. But due to the fact that no-one knew who their mate was, there existed at least a slight bond, be it hatred, fear, or friendship, among all of the prisoners or students - whatever it is you want to call them.
"Ne, I guess that with enough time, everyone must get used to it...it would become a natural part of life," he confessed. Through gritted teeth, he added, "I just hope I'm not here long enough for that to happen. And I sure as hell hope my mate doesn't decide to do something stupid. Or I swear to the gods, I'll kill him before the poison does, and then once I'm dead, I'll kill him again in the afterlife."
He sighed. Yea, real big and tough, ne, Yuusuke? Yea...you're still sitting here with that collar on your neck. Go ahead and make all the threats you want. The fact of the matter is, if your mate dies, you're dying too. No ifs, ands, or buts.
He shook his head violently, trying to get the thoughts out of his head. His bangs swept across his face, blinding him for a second.
He looked up at Kimi. This train of thought must have been depressing her as much as it was him.
"Ne, maybe she has the right idea. Get her point across, then move on to a happier topic," he muttered, in mockery of the headmistress. "Maybe we should take her lead, ne? If I keep going with this, I'm gonna wind up dead from stress before the collars."

"All right, I think that brings an end to our little meeting. I thank you all for your your prescence and attention." SHe stepped from behind the podium for a final time. She dipped forward in a bow.
"Classes are to resume as usual. Do not be misled into thinking that this means another free day. You had yesterday off. By all right, the classes missed Thursday should be held Saturday, but I won't do that. I trust you all have learned your lesson, and take my point. You are now dismissed. Classes will be beginning shortly. Don't be late, onegai. Thank you and have a nice day." Otama gathered her notecards and, stepping over the accumulated body easily, made her way from the stage. Tapping her notecards on her chin, she wondered what she would have for breakfast.

Kimiko snorted at Yuusuke. She couldn't help it. She had seen several students come in just as defiant, just as disbelieving. But she sighed and looked up at the ceiling. She felt a twinge of pity for the young man.
"Gomen, I tend to forget..." she started, just as Otama dismissed the assembly. "I forget, you're new here."
She had been about to lay a comforting hand on his shoulder, but she caught herself, remembering his comment about touching him. "Ee, ikou. I'll get you a coffee or something, ne? We've got an hour or so before class...Or at least before I have class....How about you?"
She stood up, and slung her bag over her shoulder, waiting for Yuusuke.
Cyndir couldn't take it...Renji's silence unnerved him. Nothing could ever be the same again...He shook his friend, almost frantically. Oh gods...when would it be over?
Just as the thought finished in his mind, he heard Otama dismiss everyone. He let out a sigh of relief, but nothing eased the heavy ache in his heart.
"Ren? Ren-kun, come on...It's over..." he said, shaking him again. "Let's get out of here...Please Ren, say something..."
He tried to keep from looking up at the stage...at Sydnie's lifeless body. But he couldn't seem to stop himself. It didn't seem real...It couldn't be...

Yuusuke stood up and nodded. "Uun. I have my first class in an hour too. English, I think."
He grabbed his bookbag and put it on his back loosely.
"Let's get out of here, before she decides to start the assembly back up."

"English? Oi, same here...Guess that means we're in the same class..."
She shrugged and lead the way out of the auditorium. Something occured to her.
"Speaking of class...did you happen to find a notebook on the roof last night, after I left?"

"Eeto...a notebook?" Yuusuke mocked. Yea, he was feeling better. He purposely drew out his 'thinking' time a bit, before he responded.
"Oh yea! I have it back in my dorm room. Some interesting stuff in there," he teased, not actually having read it.

Nyas felt an unfamiliar feeling weighing down her heart. She wasn't used to saddness or grief. She sighed, and pulled the two girls out of their chairs with her, giving each a hug before leading them out of the auditorium.
"Come on, you two...Not something you girls should be looking at..." she said, glancing backwards at the three bodies on the stage. She glanced around the seats...and saw three more...One of which was beside a familiar face.
"Kazz?" she said. She almost let go of the girls, but instead lead them over. "Kazz, you ok?"

Michale could only stare as the sensation of tears on his cheeks stunned him. But why was he crying? He never cried...Not since his foster father...No, he had learned quickly not to cry. He brushed them away, and looked down at Angel.
"Ee...Angel, let's go..." he said, beginning to stand up. He half-held the small boy in his arms, to prevent him dumping into the row of chairs in front of him, until he could be set on his own feet. "When do you have class, Angel?" he asked.

Angel clung to Michale's waist as the other stood. He could barely support himself, though he tried. "T-Ten" he mumbled into the tear soaked material against Michale's abdomen "I-I...I never saw someone...." his head lifted and he looked up at Michale, blue eyes entirely full of tears and red, his streaked face was flushed and he looked about as pitiful as a kicked puppy, especially with the injuries on his face. ""I...I wanna go home..." he lowered his eyes downwardto the floor and the thought of the people on the stage brought his mind warily to it. His head started to turn and he could see through the crowds of students who were standing up and bustling to get out, one student's hand, on the stage, lifeless...

Jun lept to her feet, smoothing out her skirt.
"Duty calls, ne? Those bodies aren't just gonna dissipate into stars. How about we meet up for lunch...oh, wait, I can't do that. Hmm, how about we meet up at ...sixish? I'm sure I can pry myself out of my office by then, ne?" She gave Akimoto a playful pat on the cheek where the lollipop made his cheek bulge, before turning to Onimu.
"Oi, Morgi, I want a copy of that, as long as I can get it on DVD. I don't have a VCR in my room." As the young woman turned away, making her way up the stage stairs, she slipped a walkie talkie from a cli on her dark green belt.
"Clean Up Team, report to the Auditorium, onegai. Clean Up Team to the Auditorium."
As Cyndir shook him, Renji's hair flopped over his eyes. The despised Headmistress had finally dismissed the assembly and he jumped to his feet, trying to pull away from Cyndir. He didn't want to be touched by anyone...it just added to the realsm, and that was the last thing he wanted.
Reiku jumped to his feet. This had dragged on far long enough. He need som air, and if he had time, he'd see if he could check on Michael in the Infirmary. As he looked down at Ariko, completely oblivious of Sachiko and Raven, he looked a little pale. He clutched the front of his shirt toughtly in his hand.
"i'm gonna go out to the Courtyard, ne? If I don't I think I'm gonna hurl right here on the floor...." He hurried out of the Auditorium, not waiting for Ariko's response.
--------> Courtyard
Sachiko's violet eyes followed Reiku as he made his way out of the auditorium, nearly knocking over a couple fellow students in his wake. She couldn't say she blamed him. She looked to Ariko, her face tear-streaked, her eye's sorrowful.
"I think maybe our breakfast date can be postoned, ne?" She finally released her hold on her friends hands, rubbing her palms against her skirt. Her hands were sweaty, and when she held them up they shook slightly.
She clenched her hands into fist, shoving them into her lap. No, eating was the last thing on her mouth at the moment. WHo knew when she would want t eat again. Only the ost cold-blooded of souls could be headed to the caf now to actually eat.

"I'll be waiting Dean Yuromeshi." He had always liked her playfulness about a situation, even if it was as morbid as this. "Well, I think I'm going to the cafeteria..." Akimoto stood up from the chair and smiled at Jun as she passed him to leave. "See you later Morgi, and please stop the sweeties. You only do it because it's like my head going through a cheese grater. He turned and walked towards the doors to the hallway.
Ariko nodded at Sachiko and stood up from the chair. "Tis fine Sachiko, but at least let me walk you both back to the dorms." He moved into the aisle and awaited Sachiko and Lolita to make his departure. Under normal circumstances he would have chased down Reiku, but he thought the boy needed some alone time.
