Challenge #7: It's A Creature Feature
Prompt:
Description: Designers, good job on surviving your first double header challenge! This
week we're going for a different sort of double header aesthetic. Your models have all
been cast in an urban fantasy movie, and you're going to help develop their look. The
first thing you need to do for their look? You need to change up their skin, to any skin
you want, but it can not be a normal human skin. Vampire, centaur, pink, polka dot, or
anything else you can think of, the world is your oyster! But the new skin will be for this
challenge only, and it can't human. Have fun with this and don't hold back!
Due Date: Mar 29th

Model: Maeve
Designer: wishflower
Status: Complete, 250329

Description:
Even in a world where all the stories are true--a land where vampires, werewolves, faefolk, and others coexist with humans--many still do not know of the gargoyles
Beyond being mere architectural features perched upon rooftops, they are nocturnal guardians of the city and its inhabitants. Upon daybreak they return to their stone forms
Lurking atop buildings in the rain with a raven stubbornly perched atop her head, Maeve begrudgingly admits he is her companion and names him Edgar

~ ~ ~

I absolutely LOVE the urban fantasy genre and enjoy making avis with fantasy/alt skins, so I was super excited but also apprehensive for this week's challenge
I knew I had quite the struggle ahead of me--Maeve has a bright hair colour and vibrant eyes--so most of my favourite alt skin tones unfortunately clashed terribly with those features--except for one
I paired the Uncanny Form (Porcelain Skin) which has some cracks and chips with the cracked skin from Ravenwood Manor to turn Maeve into a gargoyle!
The end result is a skin tone that is similar in colour to Grombie, in case if I wanted the option for arm and leg mods
Unfortunately, many arm and leg mods ended up unequipping the Ravenwood Manor cracks, so in order to maintain the crumbling stone appearance I am once again utilizing a look with minimal modding
To complete Maeve's transformation into a gargoyle, I gave her stone wings, Erlking ears, and horns

Keeping in line with typical urban fantasy fashion (lol pun 100% intended), Maeve wears a leather jacket over a tank top, paired with sensible pants and boots
As for her colour palette, Maeve sticks to cool neutrals and earthy tones that are reminiscent of her gargoyle nature--with a pop of acid green to complement her eyes
This ensemble matches how edgy she is: a leather jacket with studded lapels, a wide studded belt, and a pair of knee-high laced boots
Despite the drizzle, I purposefully chose a cropped top (which is actually two tops layered together) for Maeve to show off the cracks on her stomach
She accessorizes with a warm beanie that still shows her horns while also protecting her hair from Edgar's talons

A suspicious dark alley? A dime a dozen in these parts of the city. But the rain cannot wash all of its sins away. Thanks to her, the truth always comes out...

Thinking about the urban fantasy genre, I always did like stories involving mysteries in a supernatural world. I was mainly inspired by the Hellboy series and The Dresden Files. I love the concept of a bureau dedicated to occult crime cases, helmed by someone who has a connection to the paranormal themselves.

Well, the most important part for this challenge is the skin! I played around with what will suit Imani, and eventually decided on her being a Dark Elf from another dimension. I chose a teal blue as a motif for her fantasy visual colour, to highlight that supernatural feeling. Matching her skin, Imani sports some pulsing horns and a tail of spikes. Overall I wanted her to look prickly to contrast with her bureaucratic profession. Demonstrating her ability to reveal the glamour of supernatural creatures, I gave her a third eye and this space-like aura enveloping her being. The glowing orbs kinda made it look like she's wearing earrings, which is a plus?

I see her being in a role of part of the investigations team, which calls for a professional attire. I decided to be low key about it. I gave her a trenchcoat, casual shirt and pants (but I chose a coat that has a little flair). She's actually wearing old dog tags, which I headcanon it to be a memento gift from a human ex-colleague decades ago...

I decided the setting should take place in a city, where multiple fantasy races would live in droves amongst humans. I chose a rainy alley for the background. But before it be mistaken as a film noir genre... I added a little demonic portal behind Imani 😈

And so she whips around, brandishing the orbs against them as the multiple heads scream in contempt. A calling card from the perpetrator...

Items Used:

Charcoal Turtleneck Sweater
The Case of Pietro (another crime scene)
Worn Dog Tags
Royal Dream Weaver (Third Eye)
Moon's Dog (Coat V.2)
Bark or Bite (Legs) 1
Fantasy's Curiosity (Nekuro)
Velvet Scales (Cottoncandy)
Magical Maleficent Yin (mixed skin)
Cruel Lost Unmurin (Fog)
Opulent Enkindled Metamorphosis (Horns)
Accursed Simple Necromancy (Tail)
Accursed Celestial Prince (Cosmos)
Antipathy's Return (More Friends)
Perfectly Plucked (Moluccella)

Wake up in the DCC, Dead Club City
All the heaven, all the time
If you dream it, you can have it
If you believe it, it can happen
- Welcome to the DCC by Nothing but Thieves

No one had considered how long the rain would last - perhaps it was just part of the fallout of whatever happened with the 'princess' of the city; a missing priceless artifact and one of the most famous mermaid across the metropolis of Gaia found dead.
Even those who kept their nose clean were leaning in to the gossip to hear just what was happening within one of the biggest factions of the city.

You weren't supposed to be here.

A detective down on their luck tied by a debt to one of the scions of the city and now you were standing outside the Catwalk Club hoping to have an audience with hopefully the one person with any kind of information.
The matron of the club had many names, if the rumors were true, she was older than most of the scions across the city. But those were of course just rumors.

Zanna sits with a low table, a small tray with an earthen kettle and matching cups as she pours tea you watch each delicate movement, still standing and watching the club thrum below you.
When your eyes aren't on the djiin smoking her pipe there is the tiger behind her; larger than life with eyes peering right through you. Was it even real?

"Asking a djinn such questions is a far reach, detective," her dark eyes catch yours staring at the curve of her skin and the mint charm just a few shades darker than her shimmering skin.
You know not to break the contact, not yet. When she smiles your shoulders relax a fraction as a small purple cup is inched towards you. "What are you willing to give?"

About the Look: Meet Zanna, djinn and matron of Club Catwalk; one of the biggest nightclubs clubs in the city of Gaia!

With this look, I wanted to play on a lot of modern elements but push it with a look of a person who has power; these are usually characters in your urban fantasy that have important information, key elements in what the main character is looking for or perhaps are even the villain pulling the strings and setting off chaos for power and prestige in a city that never needs sleep.

The hardest challenge of course was her skin; I do not ever want to present a character to be whitewashed so I wanted to stay away from certain shades (despite how cool some of them look while I was researching which gave me inspiration for my own personal avis), as well as limited what kind of items I wanted to use. I found a really great guide that helped me find items to match the skin correctly and helped really build the character.

Someone in their home turf, their element and daresay their stage, will dress as they please. Catwalk (the club) is her space curated as a neutral zone where all walks, fang and feather may be themselves without needing to abide by most of the rules mundane folk prattle on about.

This is where the opulence of her outfit fits in; especially the lowcut corset top in mixing Tyrant of the White Hounds and Fantasy Assets with the Splendid Pheonix arms, creating a silohette with My Filthy Valentine that she owns the space she is in. Top of her game, able to direct anyone and everyone from her ivory tower.

A lot of the time in urban fantasy settings it is every-day people that live hand-in-hand with mystical and magical and while yes - I could have made a basic and boring modern outfit with the zombae skintone an just call it done but I wanted to do more. Which is where I started to build the character that Zanna became.

I wanted to create a blend of the two elements and found that layering the background with two I used really helped create the scene I wanted; the CONstellations backdrop created a club atmosphere dampened by the Realities, giving it a smokey VIP setting that kept it closed. The setting itself I really pulled from one of my favorite urban fantasy with Vampire: The Masquerade, using their aesthetics of each faction having their own fashion, rules and mannerisms within the game and web that they weave that creates such a rich and intense game of social manipulation that I adore.

What is Zanna Wearing?:

Vague Reality
Nebulous Reality (Background)
Zombae (USE WITH CAUTION)
My Filthy Valentine (purrfect=perfect)
Curls of Serapherins
Mystical Elf Ears (Zombae)
Deity of Despair (Sacred Eye)

Desperate Spirit (Overskirt)
His Opulent Reign (Nose v.2)
Clouded Usakeiko (Face)

Challenge #7: It’s a Creature Feature!

Model: Kimber

Description: So this is my first challenge using my new model, Kimber, and I have to say I’m very impressed with my work! So the first thing that stood out to me using Kimber was her hair color - crimson! She has the most “unnatural” hair color out of all the other models, so this was a challenge to find what worked with her crimson hair. Also, her coral mouth color, was something to put into consideration as well. I originally thought about doing a plant-like entry, but realized she would resemble Poison Ivy. I thought about blue, but it would’ve clashed with her red hair and would look too much like Mystique lol. So I realized a Byzantium purple color would look great on Kimber!

I knew immediately for the challenge that I was either going to do an alien or a dragon. The crimson hair definitely led me to the dragon choice! I wanted to make her look like a dragon goddess, with touches of gold to emphasize her power as this mysterious dragon creature. I added a gemstone to her forehead to relay this vision, and also gave her a crimson and gold corset to match her hair as well. I wanted her to look less like a human dressed as a dragon and more like an ethereal being, so I gave her wings, horns, and a tail, and matched the Byzantium purple skin throughout her entire outfit so she looks more like a monster and not just an illusion. Overall I’m very happy with this! I hope I am able to do more with Kimber!

This week's challenge was so much fun! I couldn't resist but play with numerous styles of skins and accents, limbs, and more. After 3 skins, I finally settled on Lawful Master skin.
I love this skin there is simply not enough of this skin around. All this was my main struggle this week. I love making creatures so it was so hard to decide and I hope I made the right call.

With that being said I made 3 looks with this skin, (2 looks with 2 other skins) for this challenge. I came back to the current arms she has now twice, as I really wanted to try and push her pose more.
However, it was the details in the clothing on these arms that kept me captivated.

At first, I wanted to give Priya a detective look but scrapped the idea, having her be a model citizen(ba-dum-tis!) working with a detective instead.
She loves her city, but never wanted to dive into her father's politics in this role.
I really fell in love with the She-Devil look, I felt it allowed her features to stand out more.
The hints of gold are left to accent the look of what someone with underworld/hell ties might have. In my mind, semi-resembles fire, and yes, her clothing is fireproof.

For her fit, I kept the black and white for both the concept and to stand out on her vibrant form. The belts and sash were used to cut all the white in the waist and define her chest and upper body better.
The look was also in mind to showcase the skin as the skin change was the highlight of this challenge. While still providing fashion for her character.

This was awesome! Thank you for such an awesome week and I hope you enjoy Priya this way as much as I do!! emotion_bigheart

I may show off the scrapped skins later on the discord once this is done

The Final Showdown
"Sparing me was such a sweet thing to do. Such a sweet, sweet, stupid thing to do.
Killing me would've been much easier."

About: It's the beginning of the third act, and our intrepid heroes have hit their final roadblock: Cressida. She's finally casting aside her good girl
persona and playing a true, irredeemable villain. She's having the time of her life.

I love, love, love playing around with weird skins. I've built many looks around all sorts of offbeat colors, but I've never successfully used the orange
Padmavati's Lotus skin. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to push myself. I spent ages (absolute ages) looking for an arm mod that matched
the color of this skin. I cycled through so many items before I found one that
A) Matched the skin tone and
B) Fit the tone of the build
Still, I needed to get a little creative to cover the seam between the skin and the arms, but I'm happy with my dangly earring solution.

For the outfit, I was inspired by "Fantasy But Make It Modern." I leaned into the typical bad girl aesthetic, layering in some pirate-inspired elements to elevate
it into something you might see in a fantasy movie. I particularly love how the belt and headband adds a touch of whimsy. I was really happy to pull Hell's
Mistress out of retirement for this look; I was obsessed with this item when it first came out, and the little peek of skin we get through the slashes keeps the
bottom from feeling like a blob of black. Plus the positioning of the legs adds a touch of much-needed movement.

For the background, I wanted ✮DRAMA✮. Our heroes thought they were just going to waltz their way to their goal? NOPE. Cressida is confronting them
surrounded by fire and ash, ready to smash some teeth in. You know there's no way everyone is getting out of this alive. The combo of Fiery Snow with
Ballad of Souls creates the impression of a great firestorm about to rain down while Ardent Launcher adds just enough smoke to sell the illusion without
obscuring the body too much. Overall, it's a combo I'm going to keep in my back pocket.

Scarlet the Succubus and Cubi the Cat Imp

Naomi is modeling for the Scarlett the Succubus doll. The company just launched its new line of college age fashion dolls and used Naomi as the inspo for their main doll.

This was another really fun challenge for me I love urban fantasy and fantasy in general! I saw others going for a very tonally different vibe and I wanted to go in a very different direction creatively. And what would be better for an Urban fantasy catwalk design than Monstrous Fashion Doll!

I loved Barbie growing up but if Monster High had been around it would have 100% been the doll line for me. they may have come out the year I graduated high school but even then I loved them. Here I wanted to emulate that vibe. (During covid I also got really into doll repaint videos and monster high dolls are a big go to for lots of artists because the faces are really nicely sculpted. That's not super relevant but just a fun little aside about me.)

I went with the Slushy color scheme because I needed something to pop against her red skin at first I worried the colors were an eye sore but they are exactly what you would see on a doll like this. Especially a flagship doll launch. Slushy doesn't actually have a ton of items so I supplemented with items that had Cool blue and Melon red and just picked poses that only showed the individual color. I also added Middle School President (mascot) because the main line of monster high dolls always came with pet. I tried to find a way to fill out the background of the box to look like she had additional accessories but gaia just doesn't have items for that so I went with Astra: Creepy House as a background instead.

The skin I used is the Lawful Master (Lusty Demon Skin) it came with the cute wings and then I added the tail from Delightfully Devious D-Tails. I also chose her arms from one of the handful of items that had lawful master red i feel like the cuffs are really cute and match the vibe. I originally had horns but they really were distracting and blocked the bow. The outfit is really simple top, skirt, and legs/shoes topped with just earrings and the aforementioned bow. Finally I used the Antique Porcelain Doll stand and the A Sadistic Creacher toy box. I know the box blocks her shoes. I asked a mentor about it and they said it had a small chance of hurting my score but we agreed it was worth it because it communicated fashion doll SOOOOO perfectly.

The Faun's Apothecary

There's rumors of a greenhouse in the oldest part of the city, tucked away between back alleys and brownstones.
One last little oasis, brimming with life, stark against the cold urban sprawl. They say she can grow anything you need... if you can find it.

🌿

I puzzled over this week's challenge quite a bit! I'm not very familiar with the conventions of Urban Fantasy, which left me scratching my head with how to best interpret the prompt. The beauty of fiction, though, is that ultimately you can tell whatever story you want, so instead of worrying about too much about easily-identified genre staples, I simply decided to build around concepts that I found interesting.

Pearl is portrayed here as a fae creature that is somewhat akin to a faun, combined with some inspiration from more colorful fantasy depictions of nymphs. These two spirits occupy similar spaces in mythology; both have ties to woodlands, nature, and fertility, but nymphs have more of an emphasis on growth and healing powers. Interestingly, fauns in myth are often said to be lusty creatures with a tendency to prey on nymphs, so perhaps this creature could be the result of such a union. I fell in love with this skin for its vibrant, floral color that creates a lovely contrast to Pearl's hair, and finding a pair of hooves to match sealed the deal. I had initially toyed with some of the more "natural" looking fantasy skins that might be closer to a true faun color... but ultimately I felt that they looked too human, and toed the line of some unfortunate connotations.

Within the context of a high fantasy story, a character with plant-based or might be well-suited to an occupation as an herbalist running an apothecary. So how would that translate in an Urban Fantasy setting? Well, urban gardening, of course! Urban gardening is equally about bringing natural beauty back to cityscapes through transforming spaces as well as building community through growing things holistically and sustainably, so I thought it fitting for Pearl's character to be running a back-alley herb growing operation out of an old greenhouse. With sustainability and a return to nature as an underlying theme, I wanted her outfit to evoke a slightly thrifty, eccentric aesthetic--something that looked like it was made from natural fibers like wool and cotton, and perhaps lovingly mended or upcycled over the course of time. I took some inspiration from the mori-kei ("forest girl") subculture to create this intricately shabby look, featuring a knit shawl with ribbon tassels, layered plaid dress, and a fawn-print collar. The color palette, featuring large swaths of deep grays and purples, helps to bridge the gap between the whimsical stylings typically seen in this fashion and the grungier urban setting.

Designers, I know you're probably tired of hearing you should be proud
yourselves, but you just keep outdoing yourselves every challenge!! This
was the closest scores have been all cycle and it really came down to the
smallest details that separated scores. It's only going to get tougher with
the smallest details mattering more and more, so make sure to really pay
attention to them moving forward. heart

Ananemain — Cressida
• You got a perfect score from every judge, and this look deserved it. It is living
rent free in minds, you made this feel so natural like this is how Cressida looks
every week.
• Only negative thing is the background/general vibe read a little more
apocalyptic than urban fantasy, but that is a very little note. Most judges had
nothing negative at all.

ThoughtsofaDame — Naomi
• The judges really loved this look! The color was a great choice for Naomi,
and this was just a really fun interpretation of the challenge!
• It wasn’t the most creative entry. Red succubi isn’t the most innovative, even
though it looked great!

Eziara — Imani
• The judges loooooved this skin, and we could tell the story you were telling
immediately without even reading the description, which is always a great thing.
• You didn’t need the portal in the background, it was just one too many things
to draw the eye away from the look - and the outfit bordered on plain, which
while it worked for the over all view and idea, this is still a fashion competition.

wishflower — Maeve
• Um gargoyle Maeve was pretty genius, especially when you cracked the skin!
Genius. We also would all sell our souls for Edgar.
• There were a lot of shades of green that ended up verging on messy, and the
other thing that suck out for judges is this looks a lot like Normal!Maeve, we
would have loved to see a more dramatic skin change.

Picaru — Pearl
• Pearl looks GREAT as a faun, very good choice for her, and the outfit absolutely
fit the motif you were going for.
• The background is a little bit busy, a different background would have gone a
long way. The outfit is a little clunky, we think it is something with the arms that
throws it off.

actualdeerooze — Zanna
• We really liked this skin on Zanna, and the backstory you had for the look was cool!
• It’s a little too dark over all with the different filters and background chosen, we lose
some details, and while the idea of the tiger is great most of the judges just didn’t
actually like it in the look.

Kr-E — Priya
• You put a lot of work into the body and we commend you for that! This red is
especially flattering on Priya.
• The arm pose was the big issue for the judges with this look, we lost the arms.
The bottom half of Priya also ended up looking very wide, and there was just a
lot of white.

torimani — Kimber
• This was a fun skin choice, bold is appreciated, and dragon was a smart instinct with
Kimber’s hair. This was also a great pose!
• Alas, we fear you focused so much on Kimber’s hair that you forgot to think about her
other base features. The lips do not work with this skin, especially with that being the
only spot of pink in the look. And while that is such a small part of the look, it was
distracting to the judges and ultimately is what has you sadly on the bottom this week.

Description:
~~~
mōndæg ( Old English, lit. "moon's day" )
~~~

The names for the days of the week were coined in the Roman era (in both Greek and Latin); 'Monday' comes from the Greek ἡμέρᾱ Σελήνης, Latin diēs Lūnae, both meaning "day of the Moon"
Interestingly, this "moon-day" comes through in many other languages including: English, German, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Icelandic, Danish; and also Japanese and Korean (both from Chinese characters 月曜日)

I originally had a very different concept for my entry (if you saw the earlier image, no you didn't), which I still wasn't satisfied with even after a week's tinkering
It was only reading a bit on Wikipedia's 'Monday' page that instantly prompted me to change to a moon-based personification

I chose to primarily use a combination of the Bashful and Auspicious colour schemes due to the common Ivory and Tarnished gold, and the contrasting Willow/Diamond and Sidhe/Fog to represent the phases of the moon (full vs new)

Maeve's extravagant, lunar-deified look comprises many layers: a bodice, a robe, two skirts, and two bustles/overskirts
These are, respectively: Seraph's Plea (bodice), BL Protagonist Robes (Refresher), Bashful Regal Chill (Dress), Auspicious Tsunbani no Monogatari (Legs), Bashful Valkyrie Hime (Overskirt), and Auspicious Lifegiver (Bustle)
The many glittery accessories add to the godly and lunar vibes in the form of a crown, hair accessories, glowing auras, and a lot of sparkles

As for the background (or partial lack thereof), I opted to use the Bashful Ritual (Window) for two reasons: having a full background would be too busy and detract from Maeve's look, and having a church adds to the divine aura
In this case, the view seen in the widow is a moonlit chapel, which places us outside with Maeve as the source of moonlight

Despite Monday often being the most disliked day of the week, I hope that Maeve brings you to see the first day of the week in a new light~

Challenge #8: What Day Is It? / Wednesday
Designer: Eziara
Model: Imani
Outfit Title: Seven League Biker
Submission Status: Complete!

User Image

Congratulations, you made it to the middle of the week! It's Wednesday, we all are scrambling to make it through. And you know what, sometimes you just feel like you want to get away from it all. Just for a moment! Inspired by the mythical Seven League Boots, Imani's outfit portrays someone hankering for a spontaneous adventure to anywhere but home. Taking on a modern twist, her outfit is based upon the Fixie Hipster subculture of the 2010s.

Thinking about the colour choice, I eventually decided upon a pink and red theme for a warm Wednesday feeling. What set the tone for me was the sunglasses. Extra hipster points were needed through the scarf + plaid sweater + leggings combo. To balance out the overall redness, Imani's tank top is striped black and white. It kinda gives that bougie French vibe!

For the first time, Imani's hair is modified with extensions. I wanted her to keep her sporty attitude by using a bun and ponytail. To add a bit of colour, she wears a red beanie as if it's a headband!

And of course, the background and the bike that takes her anywhere! I chose the city street background quite easily, I like that cozy urban vibe. It sets the tone as if Imani is about to embark from the city. But the bicycle took me quite the longest time. I chose one that was not too striking against her outfit less it clashes. Keeping up with the 2010s vibe, I put a filter reminiscent to the early Insta camera filters.

Initially this challenge theme was incredibly difficult for me to visualize: what does Wednesday symbolize? Is there any myth or holiday associated with it etc. But in the end, I looked into myself and realized: sometimes it's just simply a day to reset and motivate ourselves to keep living by the beat of your own drum.

Challenge Challenge #8: What Day Is It?
Designer: actualdeerooze
Model: Zanna
Day: Saturday Caturday!
Status: Ready for the Jellicle Ball | Finished

"When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular name.
"
- The Naming of Cats, TS Elliot (using the original - and better - Cats the Musical audio)

About the Look: There were many ways I wanted to go about when it came to what I wanted for Zanna's Saturday look.Of course you could go with the very common themes with freedom and partying - common for those 9-5'ers who cling to the weekend off. But in my daily life I work the traditional weekends, and end up going home while everyone is out and about. But Saturdays online, maybe for the older people (please I'm not that old am I?) may know the tradition of Caturday! Posting cute cat pics, memes and stories. So I wanted to twist it into something more!

For Zanna's look, I wanted to be playful; you could take this as a modern styled Cats look dancing upon the stage with her sheer Bast Friends sleeves and dangling Midnight chains. How the Yurea leopard tail gives her a touch of the vain colors I wanted to keep in the motif using the pinks to soften the harsher saturn purple and offblack that accompany the look. While designing the look and creating the persona, I wanted to have her be opulent but kind, creating a with her body language that while she may have many things on her and be cast in mystery that she has an open heart.

I wanted to play with the shapes that the cutouts on the legs make, keeping the structure with the open slits in the sleeves that draw the eye. Its striking and beautiful much like a cat slinking away to find its next patch of sun to rest in. There are a few points that do feel muddied - I feel like I layered a few too many things on top of each other on her torso, but it was mostly to convey a bit of mystery (and that I didn't like some parts of the dress which is why I used Hana Letters to crop it), and create a persona of a traveling cat coming to the next Jellicle Ball - I may have been watching Cats as a bit of a comfort film, so you can see where some of this was inspired.

I will admit, there was some struggle with this look - more than just the middle of the cycle burnout or the challenges I'm feeling, but in real life there are some things I'm struggling with. I am so thankful with how far I've come, and how I've developed the way I create looks. Thank you to the mentors, show runners and fellow cycle members.

What is Zanna Wearing?:

Hana's Springtime Letters (loose shirt cropper)
Decadent Vestimenta Romana (Forum)

"The Romans observed a day of rest on Sunday, known as "dies Solis" (day of the sun)."

Sunday is considered the last day of the week, the day of the sun, and a day of rest.
In modern times Sunday is of course another day, but we utilize it in three ways:

Lazy Day - rest, and recharge; Productivity Day - get cleaning, run those errands, and work for your home; Fun Day - get out, have a blast, a last hoorah, or even go on an adventure!~

In this challenge, we are embodying the spirit of Sunday. The sun is the center of our galaxy and many others, so naturally the sun feels like it would be adorned in beauty.
Priya is in a stunning, yet comfortable layer gown inspired by the eons the sun has witnessed. She strolls through bringing light and growth to this new day!

The sheer layer of her dress represents the sun's rays as it cascades across the ground. When looking up the history of colors associated with Sunday, yellow, orange, red, and green were most noted.
Best of all they felt right with the look and represented that Sunday brings on growth.
Rest, work, and reprive are all essential to living life, so I feel Sunday embodies that.

The most grueling about this challenge was the perfect look, let alone the focus of this challenge.
I struggled with making her look more modern and whimsy like just any ordinary Sunday for Priya. Wanting to show comfort and play. But it just wasn't bold enough this far in the competition.
I tried a lazy Sunday look, relaxing in her favorite chair at home while looking cute and having some tea. But I felt I could keep the business down, so I scrapped that too.

To embody the day of the sun was the original step forward before I shied away from it. But now we are full circle much like Sunday marks the last day of the week, the circle is complete.

I hope you enjoy this Sunday look! Get all the rest, reprieve, and work done you desire!

Challenge #8: What Day Is It? - Thursday

Studious Pursuits

As far as days of the weeks go, I feel that Thursday is a bit of an odd duck that doesn't automatically conjure any strong associations when one thinks of it. Situated between Wednesday (the midweek hurdle) and Friday (the start of the weekend that brings relief, for many), Thursday's vibe is a little harder to put a name to... but I've always felt that Thursday is kind of cozy, in a way. If Friday is to be looked forward to as the start of the weekend, then Thursday can also bring a certain sense of peace--because on Thursday, you have something to look forward to for tomorrow!

As the second-to-last day in the 5-day work/school week, I have a lot of memories of Thursday evenings spent finishing up various reports and projects before they're due at the end of the week; the promise of a "light at the end of a tunnel," so to speak, carrying me onward. Combining the studious energy and sense of optimism I associate with Thursday, I felt a sort of relaxed, drapey look that took some nods from academia aesthetics would be the perfect way to personify this day.

Pearl's look this week features a billowy blouse and knit sweater vest on top (a combo built from three distinct items between the collar, sleeves, and vest) and a flowy bottom that I adored for the relaxed pose. Of course, styles inspired by academia require a touch of plaid somewhere, and I thought this beret provided the perfect pop. The last little details to round out the outfit are a chic pair of frames that bring some attention back to Pearl's eyes, as well as a dainty pendant necklace to tie in with the color of her hair. This time, I wanted the overall palette to be focused on neutrals, which are not only a staple of academia-inspired dress, but also felt fitting for a day that a lot of people might instinctually describe as "meh," despite my own thoughts on it. I think the combination grays and browns suits Pearl surprisingly well.

As for the setting, I wanted to create the vibe of a posh but cozy study that looked like the ideal place to curl up and read a book. If you were to divide a 24-hour day into seven equal portions and assign each chunk to a day of the week, Thursday would fall around the evening hours of about 5PM to a little after 8PM, so a background depicting these twilight hours was a must for me.

I am constantly fighting against my impulse for more, so while this build looks relatively simple and straightforward, I was tinkering with different combinations of outfit items and backgrounds pretty much up until the last second to make sure that the detailing and color balance felt just-so. Earlier builds had a pair of black barrettes in Pearl's hair and stacks of books littering the scene to add more to the academic flavor, but with the feedback I've received about some distracting details in the past, I decided to pare back a bit this week. Ultimately, I'm really satisfied with how this entry turned out, and I hope I was able to give the nebulous concept of "Thursday" a more defined shape!

۞ What Day is it? Tuesday

۞ Full Of Grace
۞User ImageUser Image
I didn't start working on this challenge until Wednesday. When I first saw the prompt I simply had no idea where to go with it.
I feel like if I had gotten something like Friday or Monday I would have had a more immediate direction, but I didn't have any strong vibes about Tuesday.

The first thing I did was read up on Tuesday. Not much about what I learned helped me find a direction. Its Mars/Ares day and is associated with the planet Mars as well.
That didn't really help I just wasn't inspired. What did inspire me was the poem Monday's child.
Which states "Tuesdays Child is full of grace" I've heard that poem my whole life, I'm a Monday child myself, and I just kept coming back to that.
The other major inspiration was my partner has Letter/Number/Word to color synesthesia so I asked them what color Tuesday is. To them its a light blue. So I knew that I wanted to use that as my main color for the look.

I went with Oxford blue since its a very pretty light blue and I knew from that point that I wanted to portray Naomi as a dancer.
What better way to personify someone Full of Grace? I didn't find many items with dancing poses but I did find the Ballet shoe pose from Noble Snowlace Dancer. Which was perfect because out of all types of dance Ballet requires a ton of grace and control and beauty.

The next item I added was the vest from Glacia's Crossing Which has the points coming out from the skirt. I knew I could build a wonderful tutu style dress with this.
I found the under dress and wings next added the jewelry and then began working on the arms. That was the hard part. I found there weren't many dynamic arm poses in my color scheme.
I wanted her hands up above her head but that just wasn't available.I went back and forth on a few poses but when I found Royal Lustre I was enamored. They looked so lovely and the puff sleeves really added to the dress I built.
This is also the reason I showed the back view her arms look like they have moved into the next position gracefully trailing behind her.

The background came together once I found the right stage. I added the star lights from Over The Gilded Stars on the stage, the petals, and the hanging crystals because most ballet I've seen have had very minimal staging but I still didn't want the space to feel empty.
I pulled it all together with her makeup simple eyeshadow and blush.

I like how different Naomi looks her from other looks and I genuinely feel the gracefulness coming off of her. Clearly Tuesday is a prima ballerina.
