Zamistia continued to direct her beloved brown to deal with any other Thread in their path. While they both were still smarting from landing in a sheet of Thread earlier, they weren't going to give up. No, they cared too much about others and they knew there were plenty who could not protect themselves.
This Thread is going to pay for hurting your leg, Mine. I won't let it get away with it!Nanuth growled out. He would use all his anger at this, to flame all Thread in his path. He hated being in pain, but it was worse when his little light was too.
Rolls

They're getting blown out of their empty airspace, and dangerously close to a patch of Thread! You saved them from the pain! +1 Flame Length 2. 1) Blasted all! As you jump Between to avoid a clump of Thread, the winds change, and when you appear from the icey depths, it's right into a major sheet of Thread! Heavy Damage: -8 HP! They also now suffer a Painful status for the next 3 turns. This will negate any XP gained, and cause double damage if the prompt includes damage (or has you roll for damage). 3. 14) The thread is thick and coming down fast. Unlike the lower wings, you don't have to chase this Thread around -- it's just about everywhere you turn! This is what your dragon was made for, this is what you, as a rider, were meant to do. Burn down those Threads so they are no longer a threat to your wingmates and the people of Pern! Your dragon flames a patch ahead of them, clearing some airspace for your wingmates below. +1 Flame Length (negated by painful effect) 4. 18 ) Are you feeling lucky? Well you should! Free reply! As they jumped Between to avoid some Thread, the pair re-emerged into yet more. Argathi bit back a curse at the sight, her dragon wracked with pain as it tore down his side. She reached deep into their bond, summoning the strength she knew they needed to keep going.
We must keep fighting.
She knew he was right. She agreed.

Zamistia could feel the wind picking up around them again and could tell Nanuth was doing all he could to fight against it. She winced, feeling how his wings were being strained by that awful wind, which didn't help when they were still hurting. His muscles were aching, but she sent pride through their connection that he managed to keep in position. They would not let Pern down, they couldn't.
And we won't, Thread may have gotten a hit in, but it will lose,Nanuth said firmly.

Perhaps this was the moment of proof so many young weyrbrats had wanted and needed- Argathi did in fact not have eyes in the back of her head. As she watched out for her wingriders, she missed the small clump that snarled around her leg and Genkuroth’s shoulder. A scream pushed past her lips without her consent, but it was muffled by the dead silence of that cold Between.
I will not bear you in pain, my Argathi.
The weyrbowl- and the healer’s station- flashed before her eyes, and Genkuroth whirled gently to the ground. He handled his pain quite well, and she felt momentarily embarrassed for not doing the same. Such a good dragon…
She slipped after, stumbling but catching herself on her dragon’s forepaw. He lowered himself to the ground, and the healers came running.

Into the fray they went! Dobrokhoth was eager as ever to fight, even looking forward to this stint at high altitude - there would be no shortage of Thread to burn, after all! The wind was quite something as well, though he was large enough to fight it...however, he couldn't quite avoid the sheet of Thread that blew into his side, sending him Between to be rid of it.

No sooner had they emerged from Between than more Thread was heased their way, in such a way that they had no hope of avoiding it...but a wingmate swioped in to flame it just in time! And if they were just a touch warm from it, well, that was fine. Dobrokhoth bugled brightly at Nanuth, gratitude and approval washing over the other brown. Thank you! That was very well done!

As was to be expected, there was a lot of Thread. A lot. And on top of that, the winds were quite something, so it wasn't long at all before a strong gust blew a tangle of Thread against Menankith's haunches. Yowch! He and Nadry hopped Between before it could do them serious harm.

And, because of course they did, they came out from Between too close to a sheet of Thread to avoid it. This time it hit Menankith square in the chest before they were able to dart Between again.

S'mol and Valseth took to the sky full of confidence and heroic imaginings. They would step out before their wing. Protect their fellows and maybe even attract the attention of some elegant dragon and pretty rider with their thrilling heroics.
That delusion was shattered as soon as they popped out from between with the rest of the wing. A large gust of wind seemed to come out of no where and tumbled them out of their post and away from the formation where they could do anything to help.
Worst S'mol felt a twinge as Valseth righted himself. A strain in his wings from the rough treatment.
'You okay Buddy?'
I can still fight Valseth. But I fear some of my swiftness on the wing had already been robbed from me.
It's okay we are only just gettin started. We will make it up.

They'd gotten off to a rough start, but that was the case for just about everyone up here. Undeterred, they fought on, and when they spotted a younger wingmate in trouble, Menankith was quick to swoop and twist, flaming down the Thread that had threatened Valseth.

Things just went from bad to worse for the pair. Though there was brief thrill as Valseth caught the first lump of thread with his flame Another blew directly into them from behind and engulfed Valseth's tail burning through a forked end almost completely severing it.
Holding his head against the pain they hopped between and right back out into another sheet of thread which burred itself straight into Valseth's back and S'mol's shoulder.
Dragon and human both convulsed in pain as they made a mad jump back to between and relief.
