I haven't looked at Bristol yet - really should!
In the meantime, I rather like the look of "Deja Vu". Something about time travel or something, not sure, but the trailer looked OK. OK, fine, I'm an advertiser's dream wink

Trailer looked a bit reminiscent of things I've seen before, I thought- but its too early to judge.

Xagarath Ankor Trailer looked a bit reminiscent of things I've seen before, I thought- but its too early to judge. That's why it's called Deja Vu. *rimshot* Thank you very much, no applause, just send money... DW

Finally managed to find somewhere in the North-East showing El Labyrintho Del Fauno, and it is indeed excellent.

Doesn't seem like there'll be much more this year, but there are many promising things next.
I'm looking forward to The Fountain, 300, Hot Fuzz, Third Mother, INLAND EMPIRE, Behind the Mask, Perfume, Beowulf and Stardust, among others.

Yeah, I suppose with it being the holiday season, there's bound to be that surge of family-friendly flicks. Although, Eragon does look rather interesting (hey, it has dragons, it can't be all bad XP), and Charlotte's Web, if moreso from the nostalgia factor of reading/watching the cartoon all those years ago.
But at least with a new year, comes a new batch of movies. Basically, Transformers, TMNT, Spidey 3....ya know, the important stuff! razz

I hear Eragon is all that bad... most people really don;t seem to like it. Charlotte's Web is meant to be pretty good, though.

Charlotte's Web worries me.
Anyone who's looking for nostalgia (and the cartoon is one of the first movies I ever remember watching) isn't going to expect a poster campaign which concentrates more on the voice "talent", characters having their roles padded out to give more time to the actors or someone to've inserted fart jokes - but the makers've done all of that.
Even Steve Buscemi as Templeton may have trouble salvaging the situation through that.

Yeah, Dakota Fanning got a bit more facetime because of who she is, I reckon. Luckily she was tolerable, and mostly stayed to the background for Wilbur and co. The only thing that irked me was the groan-inducing semi-romance subplot that I don't seem to recall from the cartoon.
It was a decent flick, though. I just had to control the urge to yell "Charlotte dies!" before the movie started, however (kidding, kidding! XD).
Oh, and Rocky Balboa's not too shabby of a movie, either. It feels like a typical Rocky movie....Whether that's good or bad, depends on you. : P
Let's see, what else....Well, after seeing the first full trailer for Transformers, and reading the Greg's Preview section for it at Yahoo...I'm a bit worried, admittingly. I'm really, REALLY hoping that this doesn't turn out to be something akin to a monster flick, where the Transformers only get about 30% screentime as opposed to the human "stars". It's bad enough every new series after Beast Wars/Machines has put friggin kids in the spotlight...

Perfume was sufficiently different from what I expected to be a pleasant, surprise, but I can see than ending weirding quite a few people out.
Anyway, roll on UK release of the Fountain.

The only thing that irked me was the groan-inducing semi-romance subplot that I don't seem to recall from the cartoon. There was always a semi-romance in the cartoon - it was one of the ways that Fern was shown as growing up and away from Wilbur. But I thought that the character of Henry Fussy'd been written out? Quote: It was a decent flick, though. I just had to control the urge to yell "Charlotte dies!" before the movie started, however (kidding, kidding! XD). Given Hollywood sensibilities these days, I wasn't even banking on that ending staying in. Regrettably, it was confirmed long ago that humans will be focused on considerably, in order to attract audiences to whom the licence means nothing.

Only just dicovered that the internet archive lets you download really old films on which the copyright has expired. This is keeping me happily occupied. Already gone for A Trip to the Moon (1902) and Un Chien Andalou (1929), and Nosferatu is now sitting on my hard drive.
