With the perfect timing and pounce, combined with the launching of Kyle's horn and helm. The cub was flung like a ragdoll into the arena. HA!
"I HAVE NOTHING TO PROVE TO YOOOOOOU!" the cub roared as he was spiraled away from Kyle, which with the momentum and distance provably just sounding like a bouncing array of combative mews. Starfished the cub's claws and paws stretched out trying to slow himself from the flight. Which was fine, until ground contact was made.
the saying: 'a cat always land on their paws', was very inaccurate in this setting...
But even as the cub tumbled in a fumbled landing. He had succeed in getting pass Kyle...with the gain of wind being removed from his lungs was an added bonus.
Clawing to his paw in a hurried scramble the Cub breathlessly raced in a wonky hop to the rotting carcuss

"You have everything to prove to me." Kyle corrected while he turned around to face the winded cub.
He was impressed that he was still ready to complete the original task. Ajax was focused. Even the fact that he was responding when addressed was most impressive. He was able to think and act at the same time. Not a task that was easy to accomplish when under so much stress. With the sun and heat creeping along the arena, time was less and less the young cubs friend. How would he accomplish this task when under assault? Kyle was finding himself more and more eager to learn about this cub. Quickly he was more interested in taking on this apprentice. Far more competent than his second, Virtus, who seemed more interested in playing jokes than taking things seriously. He put on a good soldier's face, but Kyle knew who he really was behind the guise of a good soldier. Still, he knew how to survive.
Ajax, on the other hand, was focused and dedicated. He was not putting on a mask, this was who he was! Most thrilling. Though he was a cub he was slowly earning the respect of the cold-hearted warrior.

With a pant, the cubs maw remained opened as his lungs finally were able to take in a breath of air. His attention turned on the meal that Kyle had yet to defend from him. He knew action was more important then words to the elder.
With a leap the cub latched on to the husk and started to jerk it toward the other exit. The blood and skin of the animal rippled with movement by the cub's heavy breath battling for complete exhale in and inhale. Back paws kicked back to gain extra purchases in guiding him backward and away from Kyle, the husk in determined tow. The cub latched on to it, determined to not relinquish it easily.

This time Kyle stepped back and allowed Ajax to finish the task he had been given. He stood firm while he watched the cub and left him to guess whether or not another assault was going to happen. The tip of his tail twitched while he watched. There was everything to prove to Kyle, but so far he was not disappointed in his decision to take on a personal apprentice. What was most impressive was the cubs ability to adapt. One could only imagine how he was going to be when size was finally an advantage to him. He would have to re-learn strategy, but Kyle had a feeling that was going to be a breeze. Truly he was a warrior worthy of battle.
Golden eyes narrowed. That is, if Ajax could survive.

Ajax's dark eyes stayed on Kyle as he worked to move the carcass farther away from his teacher. The silence and stillness was troubling...especially after the brief little struggle.
A huff left the cub, as he turned his eyes to glance behind him to make sure he was heading the right way. He was almost there. His task was almost done. Tail whipped behind him.
He got this.
Truth be told, he did have everything to prove to Kyle, but he also understood that worlds didn't hold a lot of weight with him. Actions were better and Ajax liked it that way.

With the cub now doing his job on the edge, expecting that something once again was going to disrupt his task, was what Kyle hoped for. Ajax was alert. What was more important was he had completed the task before the sun had completely taken the shade away from the arena. That was what Kyle wanted. All of the praise was held on the inside, as was per normal for the general. Too much and it goes to anyone's head. They didn't earn praise. Soldiers should always do what they are told.
"What have you learned?" Kyle inquired. He could only make such speculations on what was going on in the cub's mind, and he could only assume the cub was going to speak truthfully. Kyle had gotten good at sniffing out answers that were hollow. Meant to be as the tongue to the rear. Those responses he hated. It meant that soldier was useless if they only wished to make an impression that was no more than fur deep.

As the task was completed, Ajax didn't take a break but instead quickly made his way back to his teacher.
His dark ears folded back as he listened to Kyle's question. His breathing was still noticeably labored as he tried to tame his intake and release of breath.
What had he learned?
"That you make a good launching pad, and are much quicker then I previously determined." The cub responded. "Which means, i have learned that I should always expect the unexpected." He finished.

Without warning Kyle thrust a paw forward in an attempt to pin Ajax by the neck in one quick swoop. A white flame seemed to gather in his critical gaze.

In an instant the cub was taken to the ground, but not before he was able to put up his front paws and latch his maw on the attacking paw. Digging his fangs into the paw, Ajax let out a stubborn growl as he didn't squirm or work to get free. No, he was content being a thorn in Kyle's paw.
He didn't expect the sudden attack-But he was prepared for it. His larger cub maw continued to bare down on paw.

Kyle held the pawn on the cub's neck showing no sign of tossing him aside. He leaned forward, ignoring the needle-like teeth that had begun to bare into his paw.
"Refer to me as a 'launching pad' again and I will remove your tail." Kyle warned. A threat that might not have seemed all that threatening. Instinct had already given him insight to the purpose of a long tail. From there he had already deduced the ramifications of loosing it. Perhaps the cub did not know, but that would be a lesson he would hopefully learn in the same manner... and not from actual experience.
He firmly held his paw in place, allowing the position to remain even more uncomfortable while the cub's maw was open.

"Ress Rah." The Cub grumbled pass the paw that was in his maw. He released the leather that was in his mouth, but still didn't struggle or move to be free. He knew that his freedom was reliant on Kyle's decision.
Ajax admittedly really liked his tail and really didn't want to loose it....

GunSniper:
Kyle held his paw a moment more before he finally lifted it to release the cub. It rest squarely next to the other while he waited for the cub to get back to his feet and re-gain his breath.
"Each slip of the tongue from here on out will cost you an inch of your tail." Kyle warned. What was to be considered a slip of the tongue would be up to the cub's imagination. He would know by the loss of an inch.
Physical discipline was one lesson, verbal restraint was another. Words could be used as strategy in another situation. And definitely not against a general.

As he was released Ajax moved to his paws. His maw opened and closed as he did his best to make it feel 'normal' again. It the rest his breath had been gained, but the taste in his mouth was unpleasant.
Closing his maw, Ajax let his ears drop back apolitically.
"Yes, Tah." Ajax repeated curling his tail around his front paws protectively.

GunSniper:
Ajax knew he had been reprimanded, which was good. However, the sight of the drooped ears and curled tail was a bit below pathetic. It would have flown if Kyle was the cub's father, but that was far from the case. That was an entity that Kyle could not even hope to duplicate.
"Uncurl yourself and stand like a soldier. You are no worm." Kyle growled. "Acknowledge your mistake and anticipate the next lesson."

The drop in the cub's ears had been purposeful, however the protective nature he took with his tail was simply instinct. Though just as he was told, the Cub straightened to his paws and nodded to his teacher.
His paws squared off, though they were sore and tired. That didn't matter, and he knew his teacher didn't care. Ajax didn't even care. His body would just have to get use to it.
"I am ready, Tah." The cub stated releasing a breath as he looked up at his teacher and into his golden eyes.
