"No - "
He didn't even have time to brace himself, time to try and stop the sudden and vicious slam of Adelaide's hands against his back. Crane staggered forward with a shout of anger, of surprise, the world tilting around him, everything starting to tumble chaotically -
Breathe.
Inhale.
Exhale.
It's too hard.
Everything hurts.
I can't breathe.
His eyes flickered open, slowly. Blue and normally bright, dulled by the agony that rippled through his senses at the first awakening of his consciousness. He became aware of the chains that slithered as he shifted, clinking meta against metal, and -
Hunter.
"No."
He wasn't sure if he'd said the word aloud, or if it was just in his head. His mouth felt dry; everything felt too much to handle.
His gaze rose and fell on Adelaide, on the wide, fierce grin of triumph on her face.
Horseman.
He wanted - needed to say something. He needed to warn the others. He needed to tell them what was going on, he had to find someone, anyone, he had to get out of here, he couldn't let them take him away, but he was so damn tired and everything hurt and his eyes were throbbing -
Slowly they fell shut.
I have to tell the others.
The thought slipped away from him, and so did everything else.
